Dale L. Norris
Dale L. Norris, 71, of Lansing, died July 8, 2004.
Mr. Norris was born June 11, 1933 in Charlotte, the son of Joseph and Jessie (Claflin) Norris. Dale was a postal worker. He volunteered at Ingham County Family Independence Agency and loved his four dogs and eight cats.
He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Norris of Lansing; daughter, Josephine Norris of Lansing; adopted daughter, Jeanette Eleanor Norris of Lansing; four stepchildren, Richard (Wendy) Vance of Lansing, Ronald (Shirley) Vance, Eva (Joseph) Hay of Bangor, and Elaine (Jon) Snyder of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; sister, Betty Neeb of Clarksville; brother, Bill Norris of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters.
Funeral mass was held July 12 at St. Casmir Catholic Church in Lansing, with Rev. Fr. William Lugger officiating. Interment was at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Okemos.
Memorial contribution may be made to the Friends of Felines. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Virginia C. Nowell
Virginia C. Nowell, 73, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2004.
She was a native of Cedar Grove, N.C. and had been a resident of Williamsburg since 1954, and living with her daughter, Patricia Priesman, in Olivet for the past eight years. Mrs. Nowell attended East Carolina College in Greensville, N.C. She was married to William Nowell Sr. in 1955; he preceded her in death in 1978.
Surviving members of her family include her three sisters, Berniece Baker, Zelota Berry, Francis McDaniel; brother, Oscar (Geri) Compton; brother-in-law, Jimmy (Shirley) Nowell; six children, William (Cheryl) Nowell, Oscare (Danece) Nowell, Darryl (Lisa) Nowell, Patricia (Richard) Priesman, Pauline (Jade) Harrelson, James Nowell and his fiancée Melinda; 12 grandchildren, William III, Brandon, Joseph, Erin, April, Richard, Tiffany, Christopher, Michael, Kristina, Travis and Emily.
A chapel service was held April 3 at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Va., with Rev. Bill Cashman presiding. Interment followed at Williamsburg Memorial Park.

Albert L. O’Connell
Albert L. O’Connell, 71, of Bellevue, died Sunday, April 18, 2004 at home.
He was born Sept. 26, 1932 in Athens to Lawrence and Genevieve (Fredenberg) O’Connell. He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years, retiring from active duty in August 1971 with the rank of Engineman First Class (Subsurface). He served on several submarines during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Following retirement from the Navy he was employed as a machinist for Grand Trunk Western Railroad, retiring in 1997.
Albert married Nadine A. Hale on Nov. 3, 1961; she survives. Also surviving are daughter, Sherry Linker of Battle Creek; sons, Lawrence (Karen) O’Connell of Oklahoma, Richard (Linda) O’Connell of Oklahoma, David (Lucia) Thomas of Lansing, Stephen Thomas of Ohio and Terry (Cheryl) Thomas of Sherwood; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Bernard, Marcia Sosinski, Sandra Summers, Judy Meskel and Mary Pruitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ardith Michaels and Linda Reece.
The family would like to give special thanks to the following people: the considerate staff of Battle Creek Health System for their care, smiles and gentle tough; friends and neighbors in Bellevue for their love and support during happy time and trying times; and Al and Dee give honorary thanks to Jenny Hollister for all the labors, love and kindness she offered to the family.
A memorial service was held April 21 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Deacon Bernard Mileski of St. Philip Catholic Church officiating.
Burial with military honors was held April 22 at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.

Flora M. O’Neil
Flora M. O’Neil, 72, of Potterville, died Friday, Oct. 29, 2004 at the Eaton County Hospice House.
Flora was born Nov. 18, 1931 in Eaton County, the daughter of Donald and Celia (Carter) King.
She is survived by sons, Ronald (Micki) O’Neil and Alan (April) Alleshouse of Okemos, Randy (Martha) Alleshouse of South Carolina; daughter, Cyndi O’Neil of Potterville; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Tim) Summer of Springport and Karen King of Potterville, four nieces, two nephews and one great-nephew.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Booth officiating. Interment was at Needmore Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton County Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Nicolaas Oomen
Nicolaas Oomen, 78, of Charlotte, died unexpectedly Jan. 12, 2004.
Mr. Oomen was born Aug. 15, 1925 in The Netherlands, the son of Hendrikus and Arendje (Wieringa) Oomen. Mr. Oomen had worked for General Motors for 38 years, retiring in 1989. He farmed his entire life and was enjoyed by all who knew him.
He is survived by three daughters, Marie A. and Wendy J. of Lansing, Alice Paula of Charlotte; and a sister in the Netherlands.
He was preceded in death by his wife Paula (Keller) Oomen on Dec. 26, 2003.
Funeral services were held Jan. 15 at Pray Funeral Home with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.

J. Roy Osborn
J. Roy Osborn, 97, died at his home in Brandeton, Fla., on Aug. 30, 2004.
Mr. Osborn was the former owner and operator of Millett Elevator and lived in Florida for 30 years. He was a member of Westside Christian Church of Brandeton, Fla. And the Music Lovers Club. He played bass with the Mellow Tones and the Brandeton Bunch bands. He was also a former member of the Suncoast Mummers Band.
Survivors include his wife, Grace of Bradenton, Fla.; sons, Lee (Joyce) Osborn of Dimondale, Lawrence (Donis) Osborn of Charlotte, Thomas Osborn of Lansing; daughter, Patricia Mishler of Charlotte and Bethel (Roger) Page of Olivet; 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; brother, I. Lawrence (Kay) Osborn of Ashley; sister, Norma Nelson of Alma; three stepdaughters, Podie Dixon, Sharon Abbotts and Denise Dodson; six step grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Homer and Lynn Osborn; his first wife Myrtle and mother of the children, second wife Ruth infant son William Mishler. Visitation will be held at Field Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale, Sunday, Sept. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Services will be held Monday, Sept. 6 at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Westside Christian Church of Bradenton, Fla., or Dimondale Lodge No. F & A.M.
Dennis Lee Park
Dennis Lee Park, age 53, formerly of Eaton Rapids, MI, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2004 at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California due to complications of a double lung transplant. He was born on August 31, 1951 in Eaton Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents Ty and Joyce Park. He was employed by Hewlett/Packard in Sacramento, California and had lived in New York City and Atlanta, Georgia during earlier parts of his life.
Dennis is survived by his brothers, Doug (Tena) Park of Eaton Rapids, David (Marilyn Gilbreath) Park of California, and nieces and nephews, Trisha (Paul) Brady, Paul Park, Elizabeth (Jason) Custis, Justin Park and great-niece and nephew, Kathleen and Jack Brady.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association or to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Dennis Park.
Phillip L. Parker, M.D.
Doctor Phillip L. Parker, temporarily of Battle Creek, formerly of Charlotte and Sarasota, Fla., died at his home Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004 after a long illness.
He was born in Charlotte on April 23, 1938, the son of Walter A. and Maxine E. (Warner) Parker. Phillip graduated from Charlotte High School in 1956 and continued his education at the University of Michigan Medical School, where he graduated in 1965. After graduation, he worked as a medical doctor in Holland for 10 years. He then worked in medical record research in the Lansing area for five years. Phillip and his family then moved to Sarasota, Fla., where he was a professor at the Florida College of Natural Health. It was there he was the inspiration for the Phillip L. parker Humanitarian Award, which is now presented at the school. Phillip enjoyed motorcycles, racing, reading traveling and spending time with his family and three cats.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Chris (Wolfe) Parker; and son, Phillip W.W. (Rebekah) Parker of Battle Creek; two daughters, Michelle (Gary) Estep of South Carolina, Leslie (Michael) Borden of Fennville; three granddaughters and one grandson; a brother, Thomas W. (Jean) Parker of East Lansing; two nieces and three nephews.
At the request of the family, creation has taken place and no services are being planned.
