Patricia J. Pierce
Mrs. Patricia Joan Pierce, 63, of Potterville, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004 at Hernando-Pasco Hospice in Dade City, Fla.
Patricia was born June 16, 1940 in Urbana, Ill., to Lawrence and Naomi Thompson. She married Robert H. Pierce on Sept. 7, 1968 in Fort Wayne, Ind. She was a loving wife, mother, friend and homemaker and enjoyed doing crafts, playing games and spending time with friends and loved ones.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert H. Pierce of Potterville; daughters, Sondra (David) Savage of Buford, GA., and Theresa Thomas; stepson, Robert Pierce of Holt; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Beverly, Sharon and Shirley; mother-in-law, Frances Pierce; brothers-in-law, Gene, Sambo, Merle, Gary, Steve and John; sisters-in-law, Bonnie, Kathy, Joanie and Jean, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and her father-in-law.
Funeral services were held May 22 at Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens, with Pastor Robert Zuhl officiating. Memorials in Patricia’s name may be directed to Hernando-Pasco Hospice, 37300 Royal Oak Lane, Dade City, FL 33525.
Alta M. Poskey
Alta M. Poskey, 81, of Potterville, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004.
Mrs. Poskey was born Aug. 22, 1923 in Brookfield Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Ira M. Faulkner and Ruby (Love) Faulkner. She served her country as a nurse in the U.S. Navy and continued her nursing career at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte and Fisher Body in Lansing until her retirement in 1979. She enjoyed the farm and gardening.
She is survived by brothers, Hugh (Adalyn) Faulkner of Livonia, Lynn Faulkner of Lansing, and Carrol (Dorothy) Faulkner of Battle Creek; sister, Ivadean Dickinson of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Minnie Grihorash of Dearborn Heights; nephews, Robert Schang of Williamson and Doug Dickinson of Charlotte; and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Poskey, and a sister, Ilah Faulkner.
Funeral services were held Oct. 13 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment was at West Windsor Cemetery in Windsor Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to Potterville United Methodist Church or Eaton Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Meghann J. Pouch
Meghann Jo Pouch, 15, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004.
Ms. Pouch was born June 7, 1988 in Lansing, the daughter of Russell Pouch and the late Melanie (Mills) Pouch. She was a sophomore at Charlotte High School, recently attaining honor roll status during the fall and winter quarters. She worked as a teacher’s aide for a Weymouth Elementary School fourth-grade class for two years.
She is survived by her father, Russell (Barbara) Pouch of Charlotte; brother, Sean Pouch of Charlotte; step-sisters, Sherri (Jeff) Ide of Grand Ledge, Sheli Zakora of Lansing; step-brother, Michael Middaugh of Charlotte; aunts, Michele Godlewski of Potterville, Laura (Bruce) Jennings of Battle Creek; grandmothers, Anna Wiles and Muriel Mills of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her mother Melanie and grandfather Granvile “Jiggs” Mills and uncle Dick Mills.
Funeral services were held May 1 at Charlotte Assembly of God, with Rev. Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Christine Wonch Creative Writing Award Fund in Care of Charlotte High School. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Melanie J. Pouch
Melanie J. (Mills) Pouch, 45, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004.
Melanie was born July 23, 1958 in Charlotte, the daughter of Granvil “Jiggs” and Muriel (Patterson) Mills. She enjoyed reading crossword puzzles, and loved to laugh. She looked forward to spending time with her kids. She worked for Clients for Life as a coordinator.
She is survived by son, Sean Pouch; mother, Muriel; and sister, Michele (Ed) Godlewski.
She was preceded in death by her father Granvil “Jiggs” Mills; brother, Dick Mills; and daughter, Meghann Pouch.
Funeral services were held May 1 at Charlotte Assembly of God, with Rev. Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte Band Boosters. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Gwenda I. Powers
Gwenda Irene Powers, 67, of Charlotte, died July11, 2004.
Mrs. Powers was born Jan. 11, 1937 in Clarkton, Mo., the daughter of Thomas A. D. and Dorothy I. (Harrison) Miller. Gwenda worked at Michigan Magnetics of Vermontville, from where she retired as a quality control manager. Mrs. Powers was active with her many interests over the years. Whether it was sewing clothes for her children when they were young, baking wedding cakes for many local brides, or traveling the country with her husband and family. She especially loved time-spent snowmobiling, fishing and camping through the years. She was a great fan of country music and especially loved the music of Elvis Presley.
Gwenda is survived by her husband, Richard Lee Powers; sons, Dwight M. and Ritchie (Billie Joe) of Indianapolis; daughters, Natalie (Don) Brocieus of Charlotte and Annette (John) Stocklass of Ferndale, Wash.;’ brothers, Russell, Billy Dean and Vernon Ray; sisters, Norma Jean Hathaway of Potterville and Deborah Cheeseman of Charlotte; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers Gary and Wilbur, and a sister, Nina.
Funeral services were held July 14 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Chuck Jensen officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Valley Scholarship Fund, Eaton Community Hospice or the Lupus Foundation.
Eugene J. Poyer
Eugene Joseph “Jeep” Poyer, 82, of Bellevue, died April 27, 2004 at Battle Creek Health System.
He was born March 1, 1922 to Ignatz and Julia Poyer. He graduated from Bellevue High School and attended Cleary College. Jeep worked on the assembly line at Clark Equipment Company for 35 years, retiring in 1979. He married Dorothy (Lewis) Reese on Oct. 15, 1970; she survives. Jeep enjoyed family gatherings, golf, fishing trips, weekly board meetings, travel and summers at Thornapple Lake.
He was preceded in death by wife, Betsy in 1976; sons, Brian Poyer in 1995 and Bruce Poyer in infancy; brothers Joe, Julius, Louis and Ignace Poyer.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Jan Poyer of Charlotte; sons, Eugene “Butch” (Marilyn) Poyer Jr., Tom (Denise) Poyer, and daughter-in-law, Rite Poyer, all of Bellevue; sisters, Julia Kauffman of Battle Creek and Helen Poyer of Bellevue; grandchildren Jodi Poyer, Kim (Joel) Madsen, Ron (April) Poyer and Paula (Tim) Underwood; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren in his extended family.
Services were held April 30 at the Bellevue Christian Center, with Pastor Stephen Covert officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.
Memorials may go to the Bellevue Athletic Association. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Clyde Prater
Clyde Prater, 86, of Olivet, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
He was born Feb. 15, 1918 in Floyd County, Kentucky, to Bob and Lula (Whittaker) Prater. On Sept. 3, 1938 he married Clora (Risner); she preceded him in death on Oct. 24, 1999. Clyde was employed by Union Steel Products, Lonergans, McGraw Edison, Albion Malleable Iron, and was self-employed in the trucking business. He enjoyed vegetable gardening, and sold many of his vegetables. He also enjoyed hunting, going for long rides, and especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include: daughters, Thelma (Charles) Burkwalt of Springport, Jerlene Prater of Marshall, Lois Prater of Springport, Emma Damron of Olivet and Janice Kay (Steve) Jackson of Charlotte; son, Bob Prater of Olivet; daughter-in-law, Mary Prater of Marshall; sister, Nancy Manuel of Prestonsburg, Ky.; 11 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Clayton Prater; daughter, Manda Prater; five brothers, one sister and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 15 at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home in Albion, with Rev. Winford Collins officiating. Interment followed at Hunt Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oaklawn Hospital or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Emma M. Pray
Emma Marian Pray, 85, of Dimondale, died Friday morning, June 18, 2004 at a Lansing hospital.
Mrs. Pray was born April 26, 1919 in Lansing, a daughter of William and Esther (Kelly) Taylor. On Oct. 14, 1947 she married George Andrew Pray. Mrs. Pray was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Dimondale.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, George, and a brother, John Taylor.
Surviving are six children, Georgina Pray of Dimondale, Ruth Pray of Dimondale, Linda (Donald) Edgar of Mason, Andrew (Kay) Pray of Dimondale, Henry (Sandra) Pray of Eaton Rapids and Joseph Pray of Euless, Texas; seven grandchildren and two great-granddaughter; brother, William (Dorothy) Taylor of Mecosta and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held June 21 at Field & Leik Funeral Home of Dimondale, with Pastor David Braak officiating. Interment was at Pray Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevin Chamberlain, Scott Chamberlain, Ralph French, Jon Pray, Nathan Pray and Sara.
