Mary Rugg
Mary Ellen Rugg, 60, of Bellevue, died Sept. 16, 2004 at Laurels of Bedford. She was born March 8, 1944 to William and Mary (Price) Dexter in Bellevue.
She graduated from Bellevue High School and worked at Schuler’s and Moonraker’s. She enjoyed attending auctions.
Mary is survived by her husband, Earl J. Rugg, Jr.; daughter, Tina Rugg of Bellevue;’ sons, Dean (Kim) Rugg of Marshall, William (Tracy) Rugg of Battle Creek and Bradley Rugg of Bellevue; 11 grandchildren; brother John Dexter of Bellevue; sisters Alex Smith of Nashville and Nancy Minich of Concord.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dawin Kuhl, officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.

Sherman A. Rugg
Sherman A. Rugg, 83, of Bellevue, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 at Dimondale Nursing Center.
He was born May 28, 1921 in Bellevue, to John and Margaret (Sly) Rugg, and attended Bellevue Schools. Sherman worked many years for the village of Bellevue and later was a groundskeeper for Riverside Cemetery. He married Theresa L. Creller; she died in 1983.
Surviving are daughter, Josephine (Richard) Rabideau of Olivet; stepdaughter, Chrystal (Robert) Collins of Battle Creek and Joyce Harley of Georgia; brother, Jay Rugg of Bellevue; sister, Bessie Fair of Centreville; stepsister, Eva Ackley; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Burt Rugg, and several half-brothers and sisters, four stepsons and a stepdaughter.
Graveside services were held Dec. 20 At Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.
Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Fred Sampson
Fred Sampson, 86, of Olivet, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004 at his residence.
Fred was born Nov. 1, 1918 in Flippen, Ky., the son of William and Fannie (Green) Sampson, and had been an Olivet resident since 1936. He was a lifelong farmer and had worked for the Olivet College Maintenance Department, from where he retired in 1979. He was also a former Star Route mail carrier. He was an active member of Ainger Bible Church, having served on the church board and in other offices.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Mildred M. (Woodcock) Sampson; son, Donald (Sherry) Sampson of Olivet; four grandchildren, Dana Floyd, Chris Sampson, Tina Sampson and William Sampson; five great grandchildren; brother, Everett Sampson of Illinois; sister, Mary Merritt of Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Sampson in 1972 and Robin Sampson in 2003; and four brothers, Carl, Comer, Ray and Earl Sampson.
Funeral services were held Nov. 9 at Ainger Bible Church in Olivet, with Pastor Scott Brook officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ainger Bible Church. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Madeline L. Sandborn
Madeline Lee “Mindi” Sandborn, 52, of Erlanger, Ky., passed away Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 at St. Luke Hospital-West in Florence, Ky.
Mindi was born Sept. 15, 1952 in Ft. Clayton, Panama Canal Zone, the daughter of Richard Lee and Kathleen Mae (Kleismit) Weaver Sr. She was born with cataracts, when her dad was serving in the Air Force. Her mother and father waited to have the eye surgery; when performed in the early 50s it was unsuccessful and she was left with very limited vision. The family moved to Battle Creek, where she was one of the first students to attend the Ann J. Kellogg School for handicapped children. The program expanded, she graduated from Battle Creek High School and then attended Olivet College. She met Bruce Sandborn and they were married. Later in her life they discovered she had diabetes and a debilitating arthritis condition, both of which she struggled with. Mindi and Bruce had been living at their home in Erlanger, Ky., prior to her visits to the hospital.
Mindi was preceded in death by her mother; brothers, Jack and Paul, and a nephew, Zebulan.
Surviving are her husband, Bruce G. Sandborn; daughter, Heather A. Smith; grandson, Bryan M. Sandborn; father, Richard L. Weaver Sr.; sister, April L. Salyers; brothers, Richard L. Weaver Jr., and Charles B . Weaver; `11 nieces and nephews, Cory, Angela, Jeremy, Brandon, Natalie, Charles, Walter, Jennifer, Meagan, Laura and Shawn.
Funeral services were held Dec. 30, 2003 at Rosier Funeral Home, Maples-Fisher Chapel, Sunfield, with Rev. Darrel Bosworth of Kilpatrick United Brethren Church in Woodland officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Breast Cancer Research.
Carrie E. Satterly
Carrie Estella Satterly, 83, of Charlotte, died Saturday, April 17, 2004.
Mrs. Satterly was born Sept. 4, 1920 in Chester Township, the daughter of Don and Minnie (Kline) Shaw. She loved being with her family and had volunteered and had served on the board of directors with Eaton Community Hospice for many years.
She is survived by her son, Gordon Satterly of Harrison Township; daughter, Diana (Joe) Newman of Charlotte; grandchildren, Steven (Karen) Newman and Mary Jo (Brian) Hosey; great grandchildren, Kaitlin, Megan and Kelsie; sister, Mary Lord of Charlotte; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Satterly, Jr. on May 17, 1982.
Funeral services were held April 21 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Elder Richard Garn officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte.

Florence M. Saylor
Florence Mural Saylor, 92, of Lansing, formerly of Potterville, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004.
Mrs. Saylor was born Sept. 15, 1912, the daughter of Frank Clarence and Bertha Anne (Smith) Sheldon. Florence was a homemaker and was a sales lady for Avon, Tupperware, Park Lane Jewelry and a set of China. She was a member of Potterville United Methodist Church and Lioness Club, active in Boy Scouts and coined the Potterville slogan “City of Helping Hands.”
She is survived by five sons, Richard (Eva) Saylor of Messick, Robert (Linda) Saylor of Las Vegas, Nev., Ross (Karla) Saylor of Davenport, Fla., Roger Saylor of Battle Creek, Jim (Alison) Saylor of Lakewood, Colo.; two daughter, Bertha (Darwin) Maas of Lansing and Janice (Douglas) Kinney of Lansing; 48 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and many great great grandchildren; and sister, Frances Brezenski of Amhearst, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Saylor; brother, Ike Sheldon; and sister, Clara Jenkins.
Funeral services were held Oct. 7 at Potterville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.

Audrey A. Schaefer
Audrey Ann Schaefer, 71, of Grand Rapids, formerly of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004 in Grand Rapids.
Ann was born Jan. 9, 1933 in Lansing, the daughter of Charles and Linda (Moulton) Schaefer.
She was preceded in death by her father on Oct. 21, 1983 and her mother on Aug. 13, 2000. She is survived by her brother, Charles Schaefer II of Charlotte. Cremation has taken place and private services were held at Oakwood Cemetery, Saginaw. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Frances Schneider
Frances Irene Schneider, 70, of Charlotte formerly of Grand Rapids, died Thursday, April 15, 2004. Frances was born Oct. 11, 1933, in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Dick and Lillian (Spencer) Ryskamp.
She had been a sales associate with Dayton Hudson’s retiring after many years of service.
She is survived by son Donald (Sandra) Schneider of Bakersfield, California, Daniel (Kim) Schneider of Charlotte, Mark Schneider of Lakeland, FL, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, brothers Myron (Dorothy) Ryskamp of Leroy, MI, Fredric (Jean) Ryskamp of Door, MI, sister Gloria Wahmhoff of Fennville, MI, sister-in-law Dorothy Ryskamp of Grand Rapids, stepbrother Hank (Marcelle) Baker of Grand Rapids, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brother Richard Schneider, sister Florence Phillips, brother-in-law Robert Phillips, and stepsister Rose Baker. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 20 at South United Methodist Church 4500 S. Division Ave., Wyoming, MI with Pastor Robert Stover officiating.
