James A. Tebo
James A. Tebo, age 72, of Hastings, passed away Friday, Jan. 23, 2004 at Tendercare in Hastings.
Mr. Tebo was born Jan. 26, 1931 in Plymouth, the son of James and Zerepha Winkler.
James was raised in the Plymouth area and attended area schools there. On July 15, 1977 in Woodland, he married Bonnie Courtney.
The couple spent most of their married lives together in Florida, but relocated to the Charlton Park area seven years ago to be closer to family.
Mr. Tebo enjoyed deer hunting and doing carpentry projects around the couple’s home.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Bonnie; five daughters, Jean, Janet, Julie, Sheila and Debbie; two stepsons, Michael and Christopher; stepdaughter, Kimberly; two brothers, Donald and Larry; two sisters, Marilyn and Beverly; 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cheryl; and a grandson, Charles.
Cremation has taken place and the family is planning a private memorial service in his honor.
Arrangements were by Daniels Funeral Home of Nashville.
Virginia M. Tenney
Virginia Marie (Hunter) (Anthony) (Epler) Tenney, formerly of Battle Creek, moved to Geneva, Ala., in 1985. She was born March 17, 1933 in Battle Creek, to Earl and Lodema (Baldwin) Hunter. She passed away Sunday, Dec. 12 after a brief illness.
She married Elwin (Gene) Epler April 15, 1967. Her home church was Harris Chapel in Gritney, Fla. She enjoyed taking people to doctors, hospitals, grocery stores and shopping, helping through grieving times and traveling. She also loved to dance, and spend time with her friends and loved ones, always greeting them with a big hug and kiss – and she never failed to say, “I love you” to any of them.
She was preceded in death by her son, Carry Loren Anthony, in Germany in 1977, followed closely by her father. Also, her husband Elwin (Gene) Epler, her mother Lodema, a sister Janet (Hunter) Weaver, and her very special friend Roy Legear in 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Anthony) Waling and husband Lloyd of Kalamazoo, Christy (Anthony) Rose and husband Ellery of Battle Creek; two sons, William (Bill) Anthony and wife Alene of Tennessee, and Dennis Anthony and wife Cece of Geneva, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Dustin Waling and Brandy (Waling) Nelson, Ginger (Rose) Bonney and Ellery Rose, Billy Anthony and Katie (Anthony) Norris, Stephannie (Airhart) Howard and Nichole Airhart, Olivia Anthony, and Nicole Thoma, and eight great grandchildren with two more on the way. Also surviving are three sisters, Irene Riley of Arkansas, Jeanie Wells and husband Bob of Indiana, Brenda Epler and husband Kerry of Arkansas; two brothers, Norman Hunter and wife Susie of Battle Creek, and Kent Hunter of Washington state, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services were held Dec. 17 at Pray Funeral Home, with Pastor Art Salsbury officiating. Burial was at West Penfield Cemetery in Battle Creek.
Lillian Teubert
A precious heart stopped beating and busy hands stopped working Jan. 30, 2004 at Eaton County Hospice House in Charlotte.
Lillian Ruth Teubert, age 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born the third child to Richard and Phoebe Hamilton on March 17, 1914 in Hillsdale County. On April 2, 1931, Miss Lillian married Edward Teubert in Hillsdale. They were married 55 years until his death May 14, 1986. Ed and Lillian had five children. For many years Lillian was a “World War Mother”, making countless pies and dinners for veterans. She was a member of Allen United Methodist Church. Lillian always kept a beautiful lawn and flower gardens and was once honored by the Hillsdale Daily News for the most beautiful yard in Hillsdale County. Lillian was always available to anyone who needed her. She took the best care and dearly loved every grandchild, doting over each one and making each feel like they were her “special” one.
Mrs. Teubert was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Harriet Ruth; a son, Larry Teubert; her parents; four brothers, Kenneth, Bill, Paul and Dick Hamilton; two sisters, Anna Daglow and Dorothy Thomas.
Surviving are children, Ed Jr. (Phyllis) Teubert of Allen, Charlotte Ann (Charlie) Barnes of Bellevue, Mary Jane (Alan) Durham of Charlotte and Carole Jean Teubert of Allen; 16 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren; sisters, Ethyl Blatchley of Jonesville and Kitty Quigley of Tecumseh; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at Allen United Methodist Church, with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Interment followed at Sunset View Cemetery in Jonesville.

Essie M. Thompson
Essie M. Thompson, 86, of Lansing, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004.
Mrs. Thompson was born May 13, 1918 in Morgantown, Ky., the daughter of Henry and Inez (Allen) Bratcher. When World War II broke out, Essie worked making propellers for U.S. fighter planes. She later worked at Leon’s Catering Service and was also a health care provider for many years. She enjoyed making porcelain dolls from start to the finishing touches of dressing the dolls.
She is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Ralph) Moore of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren; sister, Mary McKinnon of Indiana; and two brothers, George E. (and companion, Pat) Bratcher and Chester (Lois) Bratcher, both of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by husband William (Roy) Thompson in 1977, daughters Betty in 1971 and Margie in 1975, and sister Mable Bridwell.
A Funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 14 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Lansing, with Rev. Fr. John Byers officiating. Interment followed at Maple Ridge Cemetery in Holt.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Howard E. Thompson
Howard E. Thompson, 82, of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004 at Eaton Community Hospice House.
Howard was born June 26, 1922 in Benton Township, Eaton County, the son of Joy and Katie Mae (Upright) Thompson and was a life resident of Eaton County, except for three years and four months served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Eaton Area Senior Center and Greenwalt-Flaherty Post #42 American Legion.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Pauline (Baas) Thompson; six children, Terry (Gary) Collier of Hope Mills, N.C., Edith (Bob) Mertens of Coleman, Dean (Marcia) Thompson of Caledonia, Dale (JoNesta) Thompson of Charlotte, Donna (Mark) Morgan of Bonaparte, Iowa, and James (M. Sue) Thompson of Cedar Springs; 17 grandchildren and five great grandsons; and three sisters, Pauline Grier of Chassell, Mildred Sherman of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Rosalie (Tom) Nitzche of DeWitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Erica Dawn Thompson, brother Ivan Thompson and sister Dorene Kinnee.
Funeral services were held Aug. 28 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Booth of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery.

Leslie E. Thompson
Leslie Thompson, 77, of Pikeville, Tenn., formerly of Nashville, Mich., died July 1, 2004.
Leslie was born in 1927. He served in the U.S. Navy for six years, where he learned the skilled trade of pipefitter. Leslie was a hard worker for his family and enjoyed the outdoors, old western movies and cribbage, among other interests. One of the most treasured memories is of the long journey he made to Michigan in early June of 2004 to visit his children one last time.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie and Nanny Thompson; his wife of 38 years, June C. Thompson; sisters, Bernice, Nat and Jerry; and a brother, Bill.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Thompson; sons, Greg (Jean) Thompson and Brad (Beth) Thompson; daughters, Carol Baker, Nancy (Steven) Strong and Kellie (Ken) Criscoe; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
V. Lucille Thompson
V. Lucille “Lou” Thompson, 74, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004.
Mrs. Thompson was born Feb. 28, 1930 in Dresden, Tenn., the daughter of Willie Franklin and Dessie Pearl (Bolton) Dilday.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Billie Lyle Thompson; daughters, Barbara (Ray) Fountain of Lansing, Sherry (Gene) Spitz of Charlotte, and Cathy (Ken) Jones of Eaton Rapids; son, Steven (Sandy) Thompson of Battle Creek; sisters, Hazel Ward of Lansing and Bonnell Crabtree of Denver, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 14 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Charles Bolinger officiating. Interment was at Center Eaton Cemetery, Eaton Township.

Arlouene M. Treadwell
Mrs. Arlouene Marie (Furu) Treadwell, 84, of Olivet, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2004.
Mrs. Treadwell was born Nov. 14, 1919 in Detroit, the daughter of a Norwegian immigrant, the late Haakon Furu and the late Bessie (Gleason) Furu. She was a faithful member of Lee Center United Methodist Church, serving in many capacities over the years. She was also a member of the Olivet College Women’s Board. Mrs. Treadwell was a Hayes Green Beach Hospital Red Cross volunteer and an avid bridge player. She was married to Sterling Treadwell in 1938 and together they cared for Sterling’s parents in their tidy farmhouse, along with raising two children, Rosalie and Lawrence. She truly enjoyed her role as grandmother and great grandmother to her grandchildren and many others. Arlouene was a trusted neighbor who could be counted on to lend a hand to those in need.
She is survived by her husband, Sterling Treadwell; daughter, Rosalie (Leonard) Eishen of Sturgis; son, Lawrence Treadwell and fiancé Karen Strickland of East Lansing; two sisters, Julie (Don) Rush and Dorothy (Richard) Nichols both of Ft. Myers, Fla.; brother, Eric (Joyce) Furu of Marshall; five grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three step great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Shirley and brothers Wardhal and Donald.
Funeral services were held Nov. 11 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Diane Stone officiating. Interment was at Lee Center Cemetery in Lee Township.
