Zahn B. Tuckey Jr.
Zahn B. Tuckey Jr., 77, of Haines City, Fla., formerly of Battle Creek and Charlotte, died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Tuckey was born March 31, 1927, the son of Zahn B. Sr. and Violet Jean (Metternick) Tuckey. He was a U.S. Navy veteran during World War II, serving in the Naval Construction Battalions (Seabees). He worked as an engineer for Michigan Bell Telephone until his retirement and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Haines City.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rachel J. Tuckey; sons, Joel (Kathleen) Tuckey of Encinitas, Calif., Kevin (Nancy) Tuckey of Jackson, and Philip (Stacey) Tuckey of Carrsville, Va.; four grandchildren; and sister, Mary Tuckey of Lansing.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4 at First Presbyterian Church, 104 Scenic Hwy., Haines City, Fla.

William C. Tullis
William C. Tullis, 88, of Bethany Place, formerly of Charlotte, died Friday, May 7, 2004 at Memorial Hospital in Fremont, Ohio.
Mr. Tullis was born Jan. 13, 1916 in Charlotte, to the late Clemons and Hettie (Parrot) Tullis. He graduated from Charlotte High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with many decorations awarded to him, including the Silver Star, Distinguished Unit Citation and Distinguished Service Cross. William worked for many years for the Burroughs corporate headquarters in Plymouth, working with computers and adding machines. He had also worked in real estate for Century 21 for many years. On March 9, 1946 he married Elisabeth Morris at Camp Robinson, Ark.; she survives in Fremont, Ohio.
Also surviving are sons, Larry Tullis of Fremont, Ohio, and John Tullis of Michigan; grandsons, Christopher and Joshua Tullis, both of Fremont, Ohio; nieces, Suzanne Young of Holt, Cindy Meyers of Michigan; nephew, Greg Tullis of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Isabelle Cook, Cynthia Schroth, Florence Boo, Clemy Brown; and brothers, Max and Watson Tullis.
William was a previous member of the Charlotte Elks, Old Timers Club of Plymouth, Annapolis Hospital Board in Wayne, Garden City School Board, treasurer of Garden City Presbyterian Church and coached Little League baseball in Garden City. He loved to golf and bowl, and enjoyed baseball.
Memorial services were held May 13 at Bethany Place Dining Room in Fremont, Ohio, with military rites performed by the Premont (Ohio) American Legion and VFW. Burial will be held at a later date at Ft. Custer Cemetery in Augusta.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements were by Herman-Kinn-Karlovetz Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Fremont, Ohio.
Agatha Mae Turner
Agatha Mae Turner, Eaton Rapids, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Sun day, February 22, 2004. She was born in Eaton Rapids on January 17, 1941. Agatha was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Charlotte, was formerly employed with Sparrow Hospital in the Admitting Department and retired from the State of Michigan in 1998 after 18 years of service.
Preceded in death by her father, Basel Steele, in 1987, she is survived by her husband of 44 years, William J.; 1 daughter, Tammie (Mike) Newhouse of Middleville; 2 sons, Tim (Stephanie) turner of Texas, Tom (Kelly) Turner of Eaton Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Justin & Ian Turner, Samantha Turner, Matthew Newhouse; mother, Marvelmae Steele of Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers, Daryl (Loretta) Steele and Bernard (Gale) Steele, both of Eaton Rapids; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2004 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main St. with interment to follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. There will be a time to visit with her family on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 1-3 & 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Agatha Turner.
R.D. Twitchell
R.D. Twitchell, 87, of Dimondale, died Sunday morning, Feb. 15, 2004 at Eaton Community Hospice, Charlotte, fighting a long and courageous battle with a debilitating illness.
Mr. Twitchell was born Oct. 13, 1916, living his entire life in Windsor Township. R.D. enjoyed his family and friends, was an avid MSU hockey fan and spent many happy hours fishing at his cottage near Gladwin. R.D. was a farmer, Fisher Body employee and retired from the state of Michigan Department of Management and Budget. He also had time for membership in Eaton County Farm Bureau, Forget-Me-Not Club and was a leader of the Windsor Winners 4-H Club. He will be remembered for his blasé sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Harriett (Serrels) Twitchell; and brothers, Malcolm and Robert Twitchell. Surviving is his wife and caregiver, Helen (Sally) Twitchell, whom he married Feb. 16, 1939 and with whom he was planning to celebrate their 65th anniversary. Also surviving are his daughter, Roxanna (Ramon) Gidner of Kalamazoo; son, Roger (Jennie) Twitchell of Lansing; five grandchildren, Cathy (David) Worthington of Olivet, Rodney (Lorinda) Gidner of Charlotte, Cindy (Robert) Martell of Illinois, Wayne (Raven) Twitchell of Iowa, Janine (David) Eastman of Dimondale; 10 great grandchildren, Tristan, Hannah and Emma Twitchell, Nicholas and Derek Worthington, Cameron and J.T. Martell, Craig Gidner, William and Elizabeth Eastman; brother, Paul Twitchell of California; sisters-in-law, Doris Twitchell of Lansing, Mary Twitchell of Eagle; daughter-in-law, Marilyn Mosher of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held Feb. 18 at Field & Leik Funeral Home in Dimondale, with Pastor David Braak officiating. Interment was at Dimondale Cemetery. Frances C. Uhl
Frances “Fran” C. Uhl, 86, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004.
Mrs. Uhl was born Feb. 26, 1918 in Charlotte, the daughter of John and Letia (Clevers) Myers.
She is survived by son, Larry of Cloverdale; son-in-law, Ed Williams of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Pat Uhl of Lansing; five grandchildren and several great grandchildren; brother, John Myers Jr. of Olivet; and sister, Beverly Cole of Springport.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Uhl in 1993, daughter Charlene S. Williams in 2001, and son Charles R. Uhl, Jr. in 1975.
There are no services planned at this time.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.

Kenneth C. Uhl
Kenneth C. Uhl, 59, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, died Monday, May 24, 2004 at his residence.
Ken was born Aug. 30, 1944 in Charlotte, the son of L.J. and Myrtle (Howard) Uhl. He was currently employed as a concrete finisher for Kessler Concrete Construction Co. in Lansing. Ken enjoyed fishing, liked to collect gadgets, was a NASCAR fan and like to “kid around”.
Surviving are his partner in life, Carroll Bailey of Lansing; one son, Kenneth Uhl Jr. of Detroit; one stepson, Heath Miller with the U.S. Army in Iraq; one stepdaughter, Tara Bailey of Kalamazoo; two brothers, Larey (Diana) McConnell and Al McConnell, both of Marshall; and special friends, Ted and Mary Harte and family, Kiz and Mark Kessler, and Jim and Sharon Childs.
Funeral services were held May 28 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Charles Jenson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Ion C. Upright
Ion C. Upright, age 97, of Charlotte and Punta Gorda, Fla., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004 at his residence in Punta Gorda.
Ion was born Aug. 3, 1906 in Benton Township, Eaton County, the son of Ray and Maude (Tidd) Upright and was a lifelong resident of Benton Township. He was a lifelong farmer and a former Benton Township trustee, having served that position for 17 years.
Surviving are his wife, Leona (Lempke) Upright; one son, Paul (Sharon) Upright of Charlotte; two grandsons, Scott Upright of Marlette and James (Cindy) Upright of Charlotte; five great grandsons, Jacob Ion Upright, Christopher Jay Upright, Garrett James Upright, Mitchell Lee Upright and Harrison Jon Upright; and one brother, Carroll Upright of Arizona.
At Mr. Upright’s request, cremation has taken place, with private family services to be held at a later date.
Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Leona L. Upright
Leona L. (Lempke) Upright, 92, of Charlotte, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004.
Mrs. Upright was born Feb. 7, 1912 in Imlay City, the daughter of William and Sarah (Ennis) Lempke. She graduated from Imlay City High School in 1929, received a teaching certificate from Lapeer County Normal and in 1943 received a bachelor of science from Eastern Michigan University. Leona taught rural schools for five years and taught 18 years for Lansing schools, including Main Street and Verlinden schools.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ion Upright; her father, William Lempke; mother, Sarah (Ennis) Lempke; and sister, Velma Lempke.
Leona was loved deeply and survived by her grandson, James (Cindy) Upright and her five great grandsons, Jacob Ion, Christopher Guy, Garrett James, Mitchell Lee and Harrison Jon of Charlotte; cousins, Michael (Kathleen) Ennis and their three children, Jacob, Allie and Joshua of Flint. Leona will also be missed by many other family members and friends.
At her request, cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will take place.
