Bruce N. Vrogindewey
Bruce N. Vrogindewey, 84, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004 at Alterra Clare Bridge of Delta in Lansing.
He was born Sept. 6, 1920 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Abram L. and Lessie M. (Kenneda) Vrogindewey. Bruce married Beatrice E. Walker on Feb. 7, 1942, and they celebrated 57 years together prior to Bea’s passing in October 1999. After graduating from Kalamazoo Central High School, Kalamazoo, he immediately went to work for Western Electric Company and retired as a supervisor after 36 years. During that time he supervised a defense site on the DEW Line at the Artic Circle from 1956 to 1957. He was a member of the Western Electric Pioneer Retiree organization, the American Legion, and a member of the VFW. Bruce enjoyed being a “gentleman” farmer, his horses and dogs, and his four girls and their families. Bruce served in World War II in the Army Air Corp. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre during his tour of duty.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice, sister Dorothy Kistler, and half-brother C. Edward LeGron.
Surviving are daughter, Joan (James) Culp of St. Johns, Joy (Richard) St. John of Charlotte, Jill (Stephen) Alflen of Hastings, Jean (Rick) Reniewicz of DeWitt; 12 grandchildren, Jodi (Scott) Gratson, Lisa (James) Hoyt, Petra (John) Hinkle, Steven (Wendy) St. John, Heath (Jenifer) Alflen, Sara (Brad Thornell) St. John, Trevor (Cyrena) Alflen, Nathan (Andrea) Reniewicz, Daniel (Ariane) St. John, Amanda (Ron VanEttan) Reniewicz, Brian St. John, and Stephanie St. John; 12 great grandchildren, plus two more due in May 2005; sister, Eileen (Robert) Alexander of Cameron Park, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at Girbach Funeral Home in Hastings, with Pastor Dan Currie and Assistant Pastor Dave Wood officiating.

Daryl Walker
Daryl Walker, 52, of Carsonville, died in his home Saturday, May 29, 2004 after a battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nona; daughter, Tara (Dave) Wilkinson of Adrian; son, Eric (Renee) Walker of Fenton; mother, Wilma Walker of Marshall; three sisters, Elna Womack, Marcene (Dave) Hudson and Dorene Smith, all of Battle Creek; mother-in-law, Ila Burnett of Olivet; sister-in-law, Sherry (Steve) Landers of Missouri; brother-in-law, Toby (Cindy) Burnett of Olivet; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Loron Walker, and his father-in-law, Jack Burnett.
Daryl was born Oct. 13, 1951 in Marshall and attended Olivet schools. He married Nona Burnett on May 19, 1969. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University, a Master of Arts degree from Central Michigan University and an education specialist designation from Wayne Sate University. Daryl began his career in public school education at Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School, where he taught math and coached basketball and football for 12 years. He continued his career in the Fast China School District. He taught and coached at Marine City High School, then became assistant principal of Marine City Middle School. He finished his 16 years with East China as principal of Saint Clair Middle School, where he was MAMSE Region 6 Administrator of the Year in 1999. Daryl concluded his service in public education as superintendent of Carsonville-Port Sanilac Schools. He was a member and officer of the Port Sanilac and Region 8 Jaycees, a member and officer of the Sanilac Masonic Lodge, and a supporter of Relay of Life and Hooked on Fishing, not on Drugs. Daryl was also an avid athlete and outdoorsman, enjoying basketball, golf, hunting and fishing.
Memorial services were held June 4 in the Daryl Walker gymnasium of Carsonville-Port Sanilac High School.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Daryl Walker Scholarship Fund through the Sanilac County Community Foundation, United Hospice of Marlette, or an East China Middle School Fund to be named later. Arrangements were by Pomeroy Funeral Home in Croswell.
Olive I. Ward
Olive Iva Ward, 87, of Lansing, formerly of DeWitt, died May 12, 2004.
Born July 10, 1916 in Lansing, Mrs. Ward was a member of Lansing Eagles Lodge Aerie #1039 and worked for Rosevale Meat Packing of DeWitt in the ‘30s through the ‘50s.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor in 1973, whom she married Oct. 8, 1934; and four brothers, Harvey, Rex, Ford and Robert Whipple.
Surviving are two daughter, Margie Lotre of DeWitt and Peggy (Gerald) Longcor of Dansville; three sons, Ed (Marsha) Whipple of Charlotte, Gerald Ward of Lansing and Rex (Waneta) Ward of Gladwin; 21 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren; and one sister, Maxine Hankins of Lansing.
Funeral services were held May 15 at Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, with Chaplain George Howe of VFW Post #2406, Charlotte, officiating. Interment followed in DeWitt Cemetery.

Edna M. Warner
Edna Mae (Maggard) Warner, 74, of Charlotte, died Monday, Nov. 22, 2004 in Charlotte.
Mrs. Warner was born June 6, 1930 in Isom, Ky., the daughter of Isaac and Glesse (Thomas) Maggard. She was a retired Aluminum Extrusions Co. employee and was also employed by the former Ferndale Greenhouse. She was a member of the Maple City Post #2406 VFW Auxiliary, Charlotte Eagles Aerie #3552 Auxiliary, and Charlotte Rebekahs #68.
Surviving are two sons, Harold Combs of Rodney and Carroll Combs of Florida; seven grandchildren; sister, Polly Morton of Fairland, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Combs in 1996; husband, James Warner in 1997; brothers, Ishmale, Daniel and Edward Maggard; and sisters, Thelma Patrick and Viola Combs.
Funeral services were held Nov. 26 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Jeffrey Nunham officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
Maxine Warner
Maxine Warner, age 85, of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 in Eaton Rapids. Maxine was born Dec. 5, 1918 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Homer William and Olive Belle (Puffenburger) Speer. Mrs. Warner was a life long resident of Eaton Rapids, formerly employed at Horner and Davidson Woolen Mills as well as various restaurants and in 1983 retired from the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital after 15 years in the Dietary Department.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Warner, whom she married on Aug. 14, 1937; daughter, Kay (Warner) Draper; sister Shirley Corts; brother, Dale Speer; granddaughter, Kelly Parish, and is survived by her daughter, Rae Marie Parish; 3 sons, Larry D. (Lynette) Warner, Robert G. (Anita) Warner, Dan K. (Connie) Warner all of Eaton Rapids; 17 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004 at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Honorary casket bearers were her grandson, Mitchell Parish, Mark Warner, Matthew Parish, Jason Warner, Michael Parish and Darren Warner. Arrangements by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Beulah Irene Washburn
Beulah Irene Washburn, age 79, of Eaton Rapids, passed away on March 1, 2004 at her home with her children by her side. She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd Washburn in 1992.
Surviving are her daughters Irene Morgan (Larry), Suzanne Dexter and Pamela Bunker (Larry); her sons James Washburn, Lloyd Washburn (Sue), Raymond Washburn (Darlene), Terry Washburn, Kenneth Washburn and Thomas Washburn; 28 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brother LeRoy DeMond (Cathelen).
Beulah was a devoted and loving mom who will be very missed and loved by everyone. She loved many things like crocheting, ceramics, puzzles, and animals, but most of all she loved her family.
Cremation and placement will be at Chapel Hill Memorial where she will be placed with her husband Lloyd whom she married in 1940. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those who know the Lord: this is not good-bye forever, just a good-bye till we meet again with her in Heaven.
Roger B. Waterbury
Roger B. Waterbury, 51, of Olivet, formerly of Lansing, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004.
Roger was born June 3, 1953 in Springport, the son of Glen and Bernadine (LeSeney) Waterbury. He was a 1971 graduate of Olivet High School, served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was co-owner of the Printing Center in Olivet.
Surviving are two sons, Michael (Lisa) Waterbury of Leslie and Joseph (Julie) Waterbury of Lansing; five grandchildren; his mother, Bernadine Waterbury of Olivet; and brother, Michael Waterbury of Punta Gorda, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Kathryn Waterbury, in 1995; and his father, Glen Waterbury, in 1999.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held Jan. 3, 2005 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Chaplain Michael Fales officiating. Interment of cremains was at Eastlawn Memory Gardens, Okemos.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Vicki Jo Watson
Vicki Jo (Wilmore) Watson, 50, of Charlotte, passed away suddenly, May 14, 2004 as the result of an automobile accident. Vicki was born on January 13, 1954 in Charlotte, the daughter of Norman and Joan Wilmore.
Vicki was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother, who touched the lives of all she knew with her love, humor and caring. She worked for Farm Bureau in Charlotte for the past eight years and was a member of the Gresham United Methodist Church, where she served as a trustee and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed cooking and gardening and her two special grandchildren. She will be greatly missed, always loved and always remembered.
She is survived by her parents, Norman and Joan Wilmore, husband, James “Jim” Watson, daughters, Jessica (Jason) Hettich Parrott, Meghan Hettich, and Jamie (Rob) Watson Grier, grandchildren, Jackson Parrott and Kayla Grier, sisters, Connie (Chuck) Corbin, Karen Scott, Pam (Fred) Todd, brother Kirby (Kate) Wilmore, numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends and members of the Watson and Hettich families. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Hettich.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 17 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Kathy Smith officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
