Nellie Wollpert
Nellie Wollpert, 92, of Charlotte, died Friday, April 16, 2004.
Mrs. Wollpert was born Jan. 27, 1912 in Greenville, the daughter of George and Fern (Bliss) Jones. She attended Gresham United Methodist Church and was a member of the Laugh A Lot Club and the Farm Bureau. Over the years she enjoyed doing crewel embroidery, and baking cookies.
She is survived by sons, Wallace (Ginny) Wollpert of Mulliken and Duane (Charlotte) Wollpert of Albuquerque, NM; six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Merrill Wollpert in 1991; 13 siblings; and daughter-in-law, Shirley.
Funeral services were held April 19 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Judy Shulton officiating. Interment was a t Union Cemetery in Oneida Township.

Lawrence E. “Woodie” Wood, Sr.
Lawrence E. “Woodie” Wood, Sr., age 67 of Stanton, formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 in Grand Rapids. Lawrence was born April 7, 1937 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Carl and Gladys (Norris) Wood. He was a retired “Broom Brother” Fisher Body employee and an avid bowler, hunter, fisherman and woodworker.
Preceded in death by his grandson, Justin James Ward in 2001, Woodie is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna; 3 daughter, Kathy (Randy) Ward of Leslie, Kim (Larry) Keith of Leslie, Kelly (Jeff) Donaldson of Mason; 5 sons, Lawrence and Terry both of Lansing, Steve of Lainsburg, Doug (Beth) of Mason, Richard “Rich” (Jennifer) of Onondaga; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandson; 2 brothers, Oscar “Pete” (Ruth) Wood and Jerry (Shirley) Wood both of Charlotte; 3 sisters, Betty (Robert) Dilday of DeWitt, Dorothy Carpenter of Charlotte, Sharon (Russ) McManus of Eaton Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, August 26, 2004 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with interment following at Onondaga Cemetery.
Douglas C. Woodley
Douglas C. Woodley, 55, of Charlotte, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2004.
Mr. Woodley was born Nov. 21, 1948 in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Olin and Geraldine (Gottman) Woodley. He was an OTR truck driver for 34 years and was also employed by M.C. VanKampen of Grand Rapids. He was a member of a VFW in Missouri and enjoyed oldies music, channel surfing and farming.
He is survived by his wife, Connie (Bartlett) of Charlotte; daughters, Tamera (Rich) Murachek of Lewisville, Texas, Robin and Crystal Woodley of Norman, Okla., Lisa Woodley of Waynesville, Mo.; stepson, Edward (Rebbecca) Bruce of Vermontville; five grandchildren, and sister Virginia Haven of Rolla Missouri.
Funeral services were held Sept. 9 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Tom Raymond officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Beverly Sue Woods
Beverly S. Woods, age 57, of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 following a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Beverly was born November 4, 1946 in Memphis, TN, the daughter of Alvin and Ethel (Stew2art) Lung. Beverly moved with her family to Eaton Rapids at the age of 9 and graduated from the Eaton Rapids High School, class of 1965. She enjoyed traveling, cycling, snowmobiling, kayaking, woodworking, cross stitching, antique shopping and spending time with family and her two dachshunds. Beverly was the manager of Woods Properties and was a member of Jack Daniels Tennessee Squires Club. She was preceded in death by her father, Alvin Lung.
Surviving are her husband of 23 years, Chuck; son, Scott (Rachelle) Owen of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Jesse and Joshua Owen; mother, Ethel Lung of Dimondale and her dachshunds, Ruby and Molly.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with burial following in the Rosehill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Norm Hyatt, Harold Hall, John Hoffman, Roger Merrill, Al Randt and Dave VanCovering. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Beverly S. Woods.
Mildred I. Woodworth
Mildred Irene Woodworth, 94, of Charlotte, died July 9, 2004.
Mrs. Woodworth was born April 21, 1910 in Shiawassee County, the daughter of Lee and Belle (Edward) Sanders.
She is survived by daughter Janet Dean of Charlotte and Bernitta Carpenter; five grandchildren and many great grandchildren; sister, Viola Austin of Durand; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by husband Don Woodworth in 1976, sisters, Opal and Sylvia, and brothers, Lester and Clarence.
Funeral service was held July 12 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Millerburg Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Douglas Edward Wyzlic
Douglas Edward Wyzlic, age 54, of Eaton Rapids, passed away suddenly on February 17, 2004 in Miami, Florida. Doug was born May 29, 1949 in Fullerton, CA. The son of Donald and Shirley (Slater) Wyzlic. He served with the US Marine Corps in Vietnam form 1967 to 1969. For the past 31 years, Doug worked as an industrial electrician for General Motors in Lansing. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald, in 1974; brother; Kenneth in 1964 and his stepfather, Alfred Ball in 2003.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Pamula: children, Casey (Melissa Wyzlic and Autumn (Jeremy) Lawson of Laingsburg; mother, Shirley Ball of Lansing; three stepchildren, Jonica (Scott) Means of Southfield, Jesica Wyzlic of Laingsburg and Kyle Wyzlic of Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers; Donald (Denise) Wyzlic of Daleville, AL and Steven (Gina) Wyzlic of DeWitt; three sisters; Laurie Rittenburg of Howell, Gayle (Phil) Smith of Morrice and Wanda (Rod) Hiatt of Mulliken; four grandchildren, Andrew, Riley, Lucas and Harleigh. Doug was an avid fisherman, loved playing golf and pool, as well as spending time with family and friends. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather and good friend will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Love you babe.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 23, 2004, at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel, 6020 W. Saginaw, Lansing, Michigan, with Pastor Steven Brown officiating. Interment followed in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Marine’s Toys For Tots program in memory of Doug.
Catherine Young
Catherine Young lost her three-year battle with cancer Thursday, March 18, 2004 at 63 years old.
Catherine, born Oct. 16, 1940, was raised in Charlotte and returned after college to serve the Eaton County community as a registered nurse for more than 40 years. Before retiring in February 2001, she held the position of registered nurse at Olivet Medical Center for 28 years.
Catherine is survived by her husband, Lewis Young of Charlotte; brothers, Charles (Leah) Sparks of Charlotte and Russell (Sharon) Sparks of Loveland, Colo.; sister, Joann Sparks of Lebanon, Ind.; son, Joel (Brenda) Young of charlotte; daughter, Christi (Nathan) Menzie of Lansing; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Janelle, Samuel and Gabriel. Catherine will be remembered for her strength and wisdom, her wit and generosity. She lived her life in service of her community, her church and her family. All who knew her witnessed her faith, perseverance and selflessness. Services were held March 23 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Charlotte.
Bert Zavitz
Bert Zavitz, age 92, of Ft. Meyers and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in Fort Meyers, Florida. Born August 29, 1911 in Detroit, Michigan. Bill was in the Eaton Rapids High School graduating class of 1928. He retired as an Engineer for General Motors in Lansing in 1973.
Surviving are his son, Thomas Zavitz of Lansing and daughter, Kayda (Sam) Selby of Ft. Meyers; brother, Bill Zavitz of Ft. Meyers, and niece, Linda Stapp of Ft. Meyers.
With his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no services. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Bert Zavitz. Local arrangements were made through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
