Herbert R. Black III
Herbert (Burt) R. Black III, 25, of Ann Arbor, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2003 as a result of complications from a congenital heart defect.
He was a student in the University of Michigan School of Kinesiology, majoring in sports management and communication. While Burt’s heart, arm and brain worked differently, his indomitable and independent spirit was an inspiration to all. Burt was both a “Law and Order” and a University of Michigan football and hockey aficionado. He enjoyed his four years as the manager of the Huron High School hockey team (class of 1997), and working at the U of M Varsity Tennis Center. Burt if survived by his parents, Herb Black, Jr. and Chris Kahan Black; his brothers, Stephen and Kevin: his grandmother, Sophia Ayotte; his step-grandmother, Dorothy Haskins Black of Charlotte; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Herbert R. Black of Charlotte.
Services have been held. Donations may be made to the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation, Burt Black Memorial Fund (for disabled children) at 201 S. Main, Suite 501, Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
Lulu M. Blick
Lulu M. Blick, 81, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003.
Mrs. Blick was born in Meridian Township, Ingham County, the daughter of Hardy M.J. and Mae (Sherman) Aseltine and had been a Charlotte resident for 57 years. She was a retired elementary school teacher, with 38 years of service, having taught in the Loucks, Smith & Wheaton rural schools and the Charlotte school system, from where she retired. Mrs. Blick was a graduate of Lansing Eastern High School, attended County Normal and began her teaching career at age 19. While teaching, she continued her education at Michigan State University, eventually receiving a master’s degree. Mrs. Blick was a longtime member of the Charlotte Pentecostal Church of God.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Don Blick; daughter, Laurie (Jerry) Knight of Charlotte; son, David Blick of Charlotte; five grandchildren; and one sister, June Salyer of Bronson.
Funeral services were held Feb. 25 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Elbern Householder of Charlotte Pentecostal Church of God officiating. Interment was at Maple Cemetery.

Kay C. Bly
Mr. Kay C. Bly of Charlotte, died Monday April 21, 2003.
Mr. Bly was born Sept. 27, 1916 in Brookfield, the son of Charlotte and Jennie (Kay) Bly. He married Helen Grimes Oct. 24, 1941 and they had celebrated 61 years of marriage. Mr. Bly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and had been a foreman for many years with the Michigan Department of Transportation, retiring in 1980. He was a life member of Maple City VFW Post #2406 of Charlotte and Eagles Aerie #3552 of Charlotte, and was an expert gardener.
Surviving are his wife, H Helen; daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (Richard) Fain of Lennon; son, John (Brenda) Bly of Charlotte; grandchildren, John (Lisa) Bly, Charles (Kelly) Fain, Elizabeth (Paul) Lee, Jim (Marisa) Bly; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Zella Rockey and Bernadine Mann.
Funeral services were held April 24 at the Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Gloria Bohus
Gloria Bohus of Potterville, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003.
The joy of her life was serving her Lord and her dearly loved family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Stephan; two sons, John and Michael; and one brother, Tony.
She is survived by her children, Steve and Wendy Bohus, Greg and Sandra Haman, David Bohus, Dan and Deanna LaClair, Nancy Firlan, Steve and Linda Srittmatter, Joe and Carol Fox; 25 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one brother, Lupe (Bonita) Pena; three sisters, Angelina Garcia, Carmen Escobedo, and deeply loved and adored sister, soul mate and best friend, Esther (Ronald) McKeever; and companions, Bob and Cookie.
Funeral services were held Aug. 28 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Steven Bohus officiating.
Agnes E. Bolz
Agnes Elizabeth Bolz, 81, of Bellevue, died April 12, 2003 at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility.
Mrs. Bolz was born Oct. 3, 1921 to George and Gladys (Wooden) Faber in Pontiac. She worked at Robinson’s and in the packaging department at Kellogg’s, retiring in 1985. She married Walter Bolz June 27, 1942; he died March 24, 1997. Mrs. Bolz was a member of the Bellevue Assembly of God Church and taught Sunday school there. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, camping and fishing with her husband.
She is survived by sons, Dan (Chris) Bolz of Battle Creek, Gary (Eleanor) Bolz of Oklahoma; daughters, Connie (John) Baker of Bellevue, Bonnie (Leonard) Barney of East Pointe; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and sister, Virginia Zinn of West Virginia.
Services were held April 15 at Bellevue Christian Center, with Pastor Leonard Barney officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Mabel E. Booher
Mabel E. Booher, 93, of Battle Creek formerly of the Vermontville area, passed away Sunday evening, Jan. 12, 2003.
She was born in Eaton County on April 14, 1909 to Guy and Bertha (Gorham) VanBlarcom. She graduated from Woodland High School in 1927 and then attended Eaton County Normal and Western Michigan University to receive her teaching certificate. She went on to teach for four years before remaining home to raise her family. She married Russell Booher on June 1, 1929. For many years, Mrs. Booher was an active participant at the Vermontville Methodist Church, the United Women’s Club and Vermontville Historical Society. She will be remembered for making her extended family feel special and loved.
She is survived by her sons, Vernon (Ann) Booher and Durwood (Jeanne) Booher; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Claude VanBlarcom; sister, Josephine Cates; sister-in-law, Theresa VanBlarcom; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her parents; son, Kerwin Booher; sisters, Glenna Coleman, Zelna Rose and Edith Benedict; and brother, Kenneth VanBlarcom. Funeral services were held Jan. 16 at Koops Funeral Chapel. Interment was at Woodland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emily Andrus Senior Residence Endowment Fund or Vermontville United Methodist Church.
Leon C. Borgman
Leon C. Borgman passed away Sunday, April 6, 2003 in Grand Rapids.
He was born July 13, 1921 to Agnes and Henry Borgman of Olivet. Mr. Borgman was a farmer and lived his entire life in Olivet. He was a World War II veteran. The past six years he resided in the VA home in Grand Rapids.
He is survived by one daughter; Cynthia (Rick) Borgman; two sons, Carl (Diane) of Mason and Roger of Olivet; one brother, Emert Borgman of Bellevue; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Paul Borgman, three brothers and two sisters.
Services were held at the Veteran’s Home April 9. A graveside ceremony was performed at Bosworth Cemetery.
Jane Bosworth
Jane Bosworth, 89 of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003. Mrs. Bosworth was born Aug. 9, 1914 in Wilkensburg, PA, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Hoover) Roberts.
She is survived by step-daughter, Sonie Crockett of St. Paul, Minn., daughters, Mary (Scott) Palmer of Charlotte, Susan (Edward) Wollferum of Royal Oak, son Alan (Laurie) Bosworth of Charlotte, grandchildren, Kirk (Nicole) Palmer, Kraig (Chris) Palmer, Kasey Palmer, Jake Bosworth, Mary-Kate Bosworth, Alex Bosworth, Scot (Salley) Crockett, great grandchild, Meredyth Crockett, and brother Paul (Geraldine) Roberts of Washington, Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her husband, Auletus Bosworth, on March 11, 1993 and stepson-in-law David Crockett. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 at Pray Funeral Home with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital. Lyle and Esther Bosworth
An avid fisherman, Lyle Bosworth passed away at the age of 86 on Jan. 4, 2003 in Cumming, Ga., where he had recently moved to be closer to his children. Formerly from Vermontville, Lyle and his wife, Esther (Wonser), lived on an 80-acre farm on Dow Road for almost 20 years. Esther died at the age of 87 on Jan. 30, 2000 in Lake Wales, Fla. The couple had been married for 59 years.
Born in 1916 in Vermontville, Lyle was the son of Ole and Jessie (Bale) Bosworth. As a young man, he farmed for a few years before he began working at Motor Wheel Corp. in Lansing. He retired in 1976 as a set-up and experimental tool and die welder after working there for 41 years.
Born in 1912 in Mulliken, Esther was the daughter of Ernest and Susie Wonser. She graduated from high school in Mulliken, and went on to study at the University of Michigan before meeting Lyle in 1939. The Bosworths married in 1941.
A homemaker, Esther helped manage their family farm, sewed expertly, tutored students, and taught organ lessons. She received awards in sewing and writing competitions. Lyle and Esther were devoted outdoor sports enthusiasts who loved nature. They fished, hunted pheasants and deer, water-skied, and camped in Michigan and across the United States. Their children, nieces, and nephews remember their generous spirits, warm hospitality, wonderful sense of humor, love of learning, and sense of adventure.
Lyle was preceded in death by his brother, Louis and sister, Illa Meyers. Esther’s six brothers and sisters have also passed away. They are Ruth who recently died, Lee, Roy, Cash, Floyd, and Esther’s twin sister, Mary.
Surviving the Bosworths are their three children, Janet Dower of Burke, Va., Jack of Dawsonville, Ga., and Joseph with his wife, Ann, of Dawsonville, Ga.; their grandsons, Greg and Marc Bosworth, both of Atlanta, Ga., Matthew Dower of Burke, Va., and U.S. Marine LCIp. Kevin Dower of King’s Bay, Ga., plus many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for the Bosworths will be held in the spring in Michigan with inurnment at Welch Cemetery in Sunfield.
