Mary V. Elliott
86, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Monday, December 20, 2004. Mrs. Elliott, affectionately known at Aunt Mary, was born July 2, 1918, in Culpepper, Virginia the daughter of Wayne and Rose (Summ) Long. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and had worked for Eaton Farm Bureau for many years. Aunt Mary was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing cards and was known for her hardy laugh. She is survived by nephew Richard (Mary Lou) Schneckenberger of Charlotte, brother Fred Long of Charlotte, and other nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her first husband Richard Guy, second husband Carroll L. Elliott and her brothers Charlie, Harry, Tony and Tom Long. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2004 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Kendall Lewis officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Memorial Park in Woodland, Michigan. Visitation will be 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton County Humane Society.
C. Helen Greyzck
88, of Charlotte, MI., formerly of Mt. Pleasant, MI, died Monday, December 20, 2004. Mrs. Greyzck was born September 5, 1916, in Wyandotte, MI the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Lasky) Mahalak. Helen worked at the State Home for several years as a seamstress. She is survived by her daughter Lelonie Ibarra of Charlotte, and son John Joseph Greyzck of Belding, 5 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. There will be no services.
Jessie Belle Putney
83 of Charlotte (formerly of Dimondale), died Thursday, December 30, 2004 at the Connie Hong-Angel AdultFoster Care Home. Mrs. Putney was born August 24, 1921 in Eagle, Michigan, the daughter of Otto H. and Esther (Beam) Buckley. She loved her cats, and was a great gardener who enjoyed her plants, flowers and produce. She is survived by her son Ray and Carolyn Putney of Charlotte, grandchildren Rebecca (Jason) Parrish of Alton, Illinois, John Putney of Charlotte, great grandchildren Brendan and Benjamin Parrish and half sister Eunice Coolman of Swartz Creek. She was preceded in death by her husband James W. Putney, September 3, 2000, brothers Scott, Harold, and Marvin, and half brother Dewey. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2005 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Mike Arnold officiating. Interment will be in Dimondale Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice, Hospice of Great Lakes or the Lansing City Rescue Mission. Marian L. Kittle
of Okemos, died peacefully in her sleep, Sunday, January 2, 2005. Marian was born November 23, 1915 in Charlotte. Her parents were John and Myrtle Locke. There were four children, two sons and two daughters born to them, on a farm in Benton Township. She went to a country school and then attended Charlotte High School, graduating in 1934. She then attended Lansing Business University and was employed by Capitol City Wrecking Co. for nine years after graduation. In 1944, Marian left Lansing to go to Los Angeles, California and worked there for a year. After returning to Lansing, Marian started to work for Paul Automotive Co. and worked there for thirty years. Marian worked as a volunteer in East Lansing for an older adult program called Alpha. She married Howard Victor Kittle in August 1967. Both Howard and Marian liked to travel and enjoyed visiting many places. She is survived by her sister, Florence Locke of Lansing, brother Maynard (Oda) Locke of Morrow, GA, niece Leone (Donald) Bust of Menominee, MI and nephews John (Judy) Locke of Charlotte and Duane (Sharon) Locke of Bellevue, 24 great nieces and nephews and many great, great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two step children, Richard and Bonita. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 1991, step children Dale and John E. Kittle, brother Rowland in 1978 and nephew Elwin Locke in 1994. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 6, 2005 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Mike Arnold officiating. Interment will be at the Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Gayle L. Magoon
83, of Charlotte, MI, died Monday, January 3, 2005. Mr. Magoon was born April 27, 1921, in Charlotte, the son of the late Charles Magoon and the late Bernice (Frank) Magoon. He was a member of The Salvation Army for 75 years and a Corps Sgt. Major for 60 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during W.W. II. He retired December 31, 1986 from Christensen's Furniture after 20 years. He is survived by his daughter, Linda (Kermit) Ramey of Vermontville, MI, son, Major Stanley (Lynda) Magoon of Kansas City, Kansas, sister, Mrs. Emagene Pitcher, brothers, Edward (Lola) Magoon, Eric (Judy) Magoon all of Charlotte, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Magoon in 2003. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 8, 2005 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Major David Corliss officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. James Elwin Briggs
age 71, of Ionia died Sunday, January 9, 2005. Mr. Briggs was born December 5, 1933 in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Nyle and Ethelwyn (Ives) Briggs. Mr. Briggs formerly owned Briggs Electric in Ionia until the early '70's. He was then employed at the Lansing State Journal for over 20 years as a Master Electrician. In his spare time he enjoyed model trains, woodworking and boating. He is survived by sons Rodney (Ronda), Bradley (Gailene), Dennis (Vicki), Scott (Michelle) Briggs all of Ionia, daughters Teressa Briggs and Chris (Kim) Rowley of Ionia, Karen (Rich) Taylor of Byron Center, 14 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, brothers William (Judy) of Battle Creek, Joseph (Connie) of Charlotte and sister Judy Hartgerink of Lansing. He was preceded in death by his wife Ardyce in 2002. Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 12 at 2:00 PM at Pray Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Harger officiating. Interment will be in Kalamo Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 6-8 PM, Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 PM. If desired memorial contributions may be made to the family for a future designation.
Mary Lou Kamiensky
80, of Lansing, Michigan, and formerly of Lake City, Michigan died Wednesday, January 12, 2005. Mrs. Kamiensky was born April 8, 1924, in Greene County, Arkansas, the daughter of Arthur A. and Neoma (Harris) Etherton. She had previously worked at Fisher Body, and then owned and operated an A&W Drive Inn in Archibald, Ohio for many years and was a dedicated wife. She enjoyed traveling for many years. She is survived by 7 grandchildren; Paul (Annette) Huffman of Arizona, Tom (Christine) Huffman of Florida, Cindy (Fred) Rich of Lansing, Warren (Tammy) Huffman of Olivet, Tim Huffman of Arizona, Michael Grant of Lansing, Lisa (Jesse Medina) Huffman of Florida and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Don Kamiensky in 1997, daughters Judy in 1974 and Pamela in 1998. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 17, 2005 at Vermontville Congregational Church with Rev. Sally Nolen officiating, with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville, Michigan. Leona Lucinda Howard
81 of Charlotte, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2005 at Ingham Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Howard was born August 7, 1923 in Six Lakes, Michigan, the daughter of Howard and Lilah (Houghton) Royston. She was a loving wife and mother and was always there to help others in need. She had worked for Eaton Cleaners, Dunning's Paint Shop, Aluminum Extrusions and Hayes Green Beach Hospital; had formerly attended the United Brethren Church and had been active in the Charlotte Area Bowling Leagues. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald, daughters Yvonne (Gary) Roll of Mulliken, and Dianne (Winston) Johnson of Charlotte, sons Ron (Tammy) Howard of Charlotte, and Bill Howard of Vermontville, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, brother Eugene Royston of Lake City, sisters Colleen Gingrich of Charlotte, Virginia (Odell) Carlisle of Kalkaska, Pat (Jerry) Parsons of New Port Richey, Florida and Jerry (Audrey) Crane of Six Lakes. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Gaylord Royston and C. H. Royston. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 20, 2005 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Steve Klink officiating. Interment will be in Center Eaton Cemetery. Winonah Inez Arnold
69, of Bellevue, Michigan died Thursday, January 20, 2005. Mrs. Arnold was born January 15, 1936 the daughter of the late Glen Shipman and the late Leontina (Grossman) Shipman. Winonah enjoyed crochet, traveling, and her grandkids were the apple of her eye. She is survived by her companion Barry Hoyt, two daughters, Mrs. Barbara (Chuck) Griswold Bingham of Bellevue, Mrs. Bonnie (Michael) Griswold Kelly of California, 4 grandchildren, two sisters, Gwen (Allan) Newberry of Bellevue, and Beverly (Dale) Kucera of Colorado, and brother, Orville (Winell) Shipman of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband Percival 'Red' Arnold, sister Dorothy Bowling, and brothers Stan, Virgil, Keith and Vernon Shipman. Alice M. Mitchell
97 of Tarpon Springs, Florida, formerly of Brookfield Township, died Saturday, January 22, 2005 at the Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. Mrs. Mitchell was born April 30, 1907 in Charlotte, Michigan, the daughter of Rolla and Olive (Ward) Cushing. She retired in 1957 and had worked at National Food Store and Michigan Bell Telephone in Charlotte. She and her husband Delton Mitchell were farmers. She had been a member of the Eastern Star #352 and the West Carmel Church. She is survived by her daughter Anne (Butch) Netterfield of Land O Lakes, Florida, sons James (Dorothy) Wirt of California and Karl (Judy) Wirt of Tennessee, 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Delton Mitchell, sons Jerrold Wirt and Delmonte Mitchell, grandsons Scott and David Mitchell and sister Doris Wilber. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment will be at Bosworth Cemetery.
Isabelle Marie Burkett
90, of Bellevue, Michigan, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005. Mrs. Burkett was born July 8, 1914, the daughter of the late Harry S. Sellen and the late Maude E. (Folk) Sellen. She is survived by daughters, Flora G. Cousins of Bellevue and Rachel (James) Clark of Lake Odessa, 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law Joan Burkett, sister-in-laws Emeline Caroline Sellen and Fern Burkett and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Holland Burkett in 2001, daughters Rosalie Burkett, Shirley Starkweather and son William H. Burkett. Bruno Robert Kozicki
82, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Tuesday, January 25, 2005. Mr. Kozicki was born January 31, 1922, in Chicago, IL, the son of Valentine and Mary (Czernikivicz) Kozicki. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a salesman for a pipe manufacturer. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Lorraine (Houska) Kozicki; two sons, David (Beth Ann) Kozicki and Kenneth Kozicki, 6 grandchildren; James, Jason, Erik, Bryan, Bobby and Elizabeth and sister Florence Rosen of Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by daughter Linda Jean in 1973. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the Thompson and Kuenster Funeral Home in Oak Lawn, Illinois. James 'Duane' Tuckey
89 of Charlotte, died Saturday, January 29, 2005 at the St. Lawrence Dimondale Center. Mr. Tuckey was born September 10, 1915, in Battle Creek, the son of Earl Zahn and Helen Mae (Bartlett) Tuckey. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II stationed in Washington D.C. and the body shop Manager of Fowlers, Inc. for 35 years before his retirement. He was a prolific woodworker and furniture maker and a man of integrity, respected by his family, friends, and all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. He loved his family and gave freely of his time; talents and wonderful things he made. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hester Irene (Farrier) Tuckey, sons David Duane Tuckey and Jamie Alen Tuckey both of Vermontville, grandchildren Curtis Duane Tuckey of Chicago, Christopher David Tuckey and David Alan Tuckey both of Lansing, Jamie Alen Tuckey II of Hawaii, Jim (Sherry) Haviland of Mt. Morris, great-granddaughters Britiany Tuckey of DeWitt and Heather Haviland of Haslett, nieces Lucille Tuckey of Charlotte and Rachel Tuckey of Florida and 7 great-nephews and 3 great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Zahn and Violet Tuckey, nephews Joseph Tuckey and Zahn Tuckey, Jr and great-nephew, Danny Tuckey.
