Kenneth C. Densmore
Kenneth C. Densmore, 77, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Kenneth was born Jan. 4, 1926 in Lansing, the son of Hugh and Freda (Newcomer) Densmore and had been a Charlotte resident since 1944, coming from Alma. He served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division during World War II, and was employed by the Aluminum Extrusions/Hoover Group in Charlotte, retiring in 1988 after 30 years of service. He was also a lifelong farmer and a former member of the Marshall Moose Lodge.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Helen (Sentes) Densmore; daughter, Shirley (Don) Moore of Beaverton and Marcia (Terry) Simpson of Mason; son, Michael (Lyuda) Densmore of Charlotte; eight grandchildren, Teresa Moore Colbry, Valerie Moore Korroch, Brian Moore, Andrea Willett Ott, Rayanne Densmore, Ken Densmore, Ruslan Kozhohar and Sara Densmore; 14 great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert (Leona) Densmore of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel in Charlotte, with Chaplain Gary DeVries officiating.

Donald T. DePriest
Donald Truman DePriest, 66, of Charlotte, was reunited with his wife, Feb. 20, 2003.
Mr. DePriest was born Sept. 29, 1936 in Cairo, Ill., the son of Truman and Irene (Collins) DePriest. He was a construction contractor and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by son, Thaddaeus DePriest and fiancée Monica Perez, daughter, Lynn (Doug) Dickinson and daughter Terri (Stephen) Boyce, all of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Sara Jo Tate (John Maynard), Michelle, David, Danielle Dickinson, Zachariah and Andres Suarez; sister, Ruth Kissick of Florida and Doris Warren of Illinois, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie (Heinze) DePriest in 1996.
Funeral services were held Feb. 22 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Mark Slocum officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville. Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital or Potterville Church of the Nazarene. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Renee S. DeWaters
Renee Sue (Smith) DeWaters, of St. Johns, passed away Aug. 17, 2003 in Grayling due to a long series of heart problems.
She was born Nov. 6, 1956 in Ft. McCellan, Ala. She was a military child in the U.S. Army and traveled the world abroad. She received a business associate’s degree from Kirtland Community College in Roscommon and a medical billing terminology certificate from Lansing Community College, and was previously employed by Windmill Truck Stop, Toys-R-Us, Clinton County Medical Center, SJPA Medical, DeWitt Women’s Health Care McClaren in DeWitt.
Renee was preceded in death by a stepson, Matthew Aaron DeWaters on Sept. 20, 1995.
Surviving are her husband, Steven E. DeWaters of St. Johns; son, Jason (Andrea) DeWaters of Potterville; stepdaughter, Angela (Sherwood) Jones of Nashville; parents, Retired LTC Laurence and Marva Smith of Grayling; sister, Virginia (Kim) Burnham of Eagle; brother, Larry D. Smith of Fowler; four granddaughters and four grandsons; four nieces and three nephews; sisters-in-law, Shari Horwath of holt and Susan Bergdolld of Chicago; mother-in-law, Phyllis (Chuck) Schmutte of Fort Meyers, Fla.; cousins and friends; and her pets, Zoe, Zues and Tootie.
There will be a graveside memorial service at Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 11 a.m.
Memorial contributions to the American Heath Association may be made in memory of Renee S. DeWaters.
Mary J. Dillin
Miss Mary J. Dillin passed away Monday, June 2, 2003. She was born Jan. 5, 1912, the eldest daughter of George and Victoria (Oria) Dillin of rural Charlotte.
She attended Maurer Country School and graduated from Charlotte High School in 1931. Mary did housework in several homes and then worked in two factories, including Wilcox-Gay, she took courses through Moody Bible Institute. God called her to be a missionary to boys and girls in the Ozarks in Arkansas. She spent 21 years teaching the Bible to children in the schools of Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. Then, God sent her home to Michigan to take care of her ill father until his death. Mary also sold Watkins Products for a number of years. From the time she returned to Michigan until her death, she had a mail ministry, mailing cards of sympathy and a gospel track to people who had lost a loved one. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Charlotte Gospel Church for many years and has attended Ainger Bible Church for 30 years. Here she served in many ways preparing the communion and flowers for the sanctuary. She took care of the nursery and sang in the choir. She served as president of her Sunday school then as secretary and treasurer for many years.
She is survived by one sister, Doris Prindle; two nephews and four nieces. She is also survived by many grand and great grand nieces and nephews; special friends, Dixie Brand-Hegenauer and Maxine (Ernest) Kalis.
Funeral services were held June 6 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Robert Clinton officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery in Charlotte.
Robert E. Dishman
Robert E. Dishman, 76, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003.
Mr. Dishman was born July 17, 1926, in Marco, Ind., the son of Eric and Effie Mae (Bough) Dishman. He was saved in 1959 at Needmore Bible Church in Charlotte and had been an active member at Millett Bible Baptist Church in Lansing since 1964. He was a forklift driver for Lindell Drop Forge in Lansing and worked for Lansing Schools until his disability retirement in 1975.
He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father; son, Dana Dee Dishman in 1979; brothers, Hestin, Jim, Wilbert and Gilbert Dishman.
He lived in Dugger, Ind., Florida and Michigan with his surviving wife of 51 years Virginia Boltz Hout Dishman. Also surviving is daughter, Sue Ann Hout Depue Browers and spouse Dale Bowers of Hastings; son, Larry Kent Hout and spouse Succoro Madina Hout of El Paso, Texas; daughter, Ronda Hout Beebe and spouse Frank Beebe of Marion, Donna Kay Hout Leonard Hannahs and spouse Gene Hannahs of Lansing, Catherine Y. Dishman Combs and spouse Rick Combs of Lansing; 24 grandchildren and 66 great-grandchildren; sister, June Keagy of Bloomfield, Ind.; and friends like family, Joe and Eloise Volz Bancroft and Renee Wabeke.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10 at Needmore Bible Church in Charlotte, with Pastor Dale Billingsley officiating. Interment will be in Needmore Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be Sunday 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Millett Bible Baptist Church or Needmore Bible Church. Arrangements are by Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Tim Scott Dodge
Tim Scott Dodge, age 29, of New Port Richey, FL, formerly of Lansing, died Monday, August 18, 2003.
Surviving are his son, Aaron of FL; mother, Judy Dodge of Lansing; father, Gary (Pat) Dodge of FL; sister, Christie (Dennis) Reynolds of Lansing; grandmother, Ruby Moon of Eaton Rapids and fiancée, Kim Palys of FL.
Graveside services were held on Monday, August 25, 2:00 p.m. at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. The family was served by Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. Memorial contributions will be gratefully accepted by his family in memory of Tim Dodge.
Margaret C. Dowding
Margaret Charlotte (Blanchard) Dowding, age 97, of Eaton Rapids, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2003 from the St. Lawrence/Dimondale Center. She was born at Lakeview, Michigan on July 8, 1905, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Bishop) Blanchard. Margaret grew up in the Crystal, Michigan area, moving to Eaton Rapids in 1925, to work at the Horner Woolen Mills in Eaton Rapids. She married Charles Dowding of the Brookfield area near Eaton Rapids, and from this union they had four children. Together they operated a local farm and attended the Wesleyan Church in Eaton Rapids for many, many years. Preceding her in death were her husband, Charles; grandson, Joel Converse; and daughter-in-law, Judy Dowding.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Maxine Dowding Fuller of AZ, Barbara (Merle) Oliver of Dimondale, Catherine (Max) Converse of Howell; son, Donald Dowding of Eaton Rapids; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Monday, May 5, 2003 at the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church at 11:00 a.m. with Pastors: Rev. Frank Klassen, Rev. Charlene Minger and Rev. Dallas McFarland all participating in the service. Burial followed in the Clarence Center Cemetery at Duck Lake in Calhoun County. Arrangements by Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring memorial gifts may be made to either the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church or the Eaton Community Hospice, in memory of Margaret C. Dowding.
Christopher A. DuBois
Christopher A. DuBois, age 18, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, July 4, 2003 as a result of a drowning accident. Christopher was born Aug. 12, 1984 in Flint. He was a graduate of Eaton Rapids High School, Class of 2002, was a sophomore at Lansing Community College and was a swing manager with Subway.
Surviving are his mother, Kathryn (Steven) Hanner of Tecumseh; father, Martin (Olga) DuBois of Eaton Rapids; 3 brothers, Jon, Aron, and Marty DuBois; 4 sisters, Julia DuBois, Erin, Dagny and Morgan Hanner; maternal grandmother, Mary F. Lauer of Swartz Creek; paternal grandparents, James & Nancy DuBois of Addison, Carolyn Smiley of Louisiana; birth family, father, Paul Shrader of Fl; 2 brothers, Paul Shrader, Jr., David Shrader; 2 sisters, Karen Folstad, Lisa Spencer.
A memorial service will be held on Web, July 9, 2003, 11:00 a.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 6-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to either the Eaton Rapids Senior Center or Save The Island fund in memory of Christopher A. DuBois.
Berwell Duffey
Berwell D. “Stub” Duffey, 73, of Charlotte died Sunday morning, Sept. 14, 2003 at the home of his daughter, Laurie Little, in Hastings.
Mr. Duffey was born March 23, 1930 in Danby Township, a son of Burr and Hazel (Catlin) Duffey. He was a retired carpenter and had served with the Army during the Korean Conflict.
Surviving are four children, Debbie (Vernon) Mallory of Levering, Steve Duffey of Charlotte, Laurie (Jeff) Little of Hastings and Anne (Troy) Woodman of Nashville, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren and his sister, Maxine (Walter) Brown of Sunfield.
His son, Jerry, died in the Vietnam War in 1971. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bernard, in 2001.
Services were held Sept. 16 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Rev. Gordon Binns officiating. Interment was in Danby Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jeremy Duffy, Trent Mallory, Troy Duffey, Vern Mallory, Jeff Little Troy Woodman and Gehrig Tomlinson.
Memorial donations may be made to Maple Valley Memorial Scholarship Fund.
