Severo (Sam) F. Gauna
Severo F. Gauna, age 65 of Eaton Rapids died Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Sparrow Hospital. He was born September 26, 1937 in Melvin, Texas. He was the son of Juan and Rosa Gauna. He was retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and most of all, being with his family and friends.
Survivng are his wife of 45 years, Margie Gauna (Hernandez); 3 children, Sam (Marla) Gauna, Eddie (Pam) Gauna, Terri (Scott) Rhoads, all of Eaton Rapids; 11 grandchildren; Quaqien, Kolya, Natasha, Rachelle, Devin, Carmen, Eddie, Alex, Phillip, Amanda, Scotty and 1 great grandson, Asai. Also surviving hime are 4 brothers, Manases, Ruben, Eliseo, Rae, and 3 sisters, Oralia, Alice and Rosa.
A memorial service was held Monday, June 23, 2003 at the Chapel in the Pines Funeral Home, Lansing, MI. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Heart Association in the memory of Severo F. Gauna.
Lawrence A. Gee
Lawrence A. Gee, 78, of Charlotte, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003 at his home.
Mr. Gee was born Sept. 8, 1924 in Muskegon, the son of Jacob and Roberta (Kenyon) Gee. He worked as a supervisor at the Eaton County Road Commission, retiring in 1986. He married Marie Pratt in 1945 and she survives him.
He is also survived by daughter, Pam (Richard) Martin of Tennessee; sons, Barry (Rose) Gee of Virginia Beach and Neal (Diane) Gee of the Upper Peninsula; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Hale (Betty) Gee of Spring Lake; and sister, Joyce Shue of Fairgrove.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
A memorial service was held Aug. 18 at Deepdale Memorial Gardens in Lansing, with Rev. Rae Franke officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Foundation. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Lena “Beanie” Getter
Lena “Beanie” Getter, age 79, of Phoenix, AZ, died Sunday, May 11, 2003 in Peoria, AZ. Lena was born July 20, 1923 in Eaton Co., MI, the daughter of William Dewey and Anna Elnora (Harmon) Elston. She retired from Aluminum Extrusions in 1969 after 20 years of service. Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Merle in 1997 and her son, Stanley.
Surviving are her daughter, Shirley (Andrew) Gambino of Phoenix, AZ; son, Richard (Joyce) Getter of DeWitt; 8 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Clayton (Janet) Elston, Frank Elston and sister, Ethelda (Jim) Cataline all of Eaton Rapids.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 16, 2003 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home. Internment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society in memory of Lena Getter.
Anthony David Gibson
Anthony David Gibson, age 45 of Potterville, died Sunday, October 5, 2003 following an emergency heart bypass. He was born September 4, 1958 in Jackson, the son of Lillie Caudill and LeRoy DeBoe. Tony was a Bellevue High School Graduate, class of 1978. He was a Desert Storm Veteran serving in the Army and worked for the past 10 years with Spartan Motors in Charlotte. Preceding him in death was a brother, Kenneth Gibson in 2002.
Beloved father, son, brother, uncle and friend, he is survived by his loving children, Maria (Andy) Hall, Jacob (Rose) Gibson and Paul Gibson; 4 grandchildren; mother, Lillie Caudill; brothers, Terry Gibson and Danny (Cici) Gibson; sisters, Margaret (Leonard) Kreischer, Delaine (David) Bria and Reatha (Dale) Mayo; several nieces and nephews; Fiancee, Kathy Caudill and father LeRoy DeBoe.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Marty DeBow officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Emma G. Gilbert
Emma G. Gilbert, age 91, of Charlotte, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at her residence.
Mrs. Gilbert was born Feb. 19, 1912 in Roxand Township Eaton County, the daughter of Charles and Kate (Gould) Goodrich, and had been a Charlotte resident for 12 years, coming from Olivet. She was married to Gordon Gilbert Nov. 19, 1932; he preceded her in death Jan. 7, 1990. Mrs. Gilbert was a member of both the Olivet and Charlotte senior citizen groups.
Surviving are four children, Dexter (Lois) Gilbert of Sugarland, Texas, Carroll (Sue) Gilbert of Portland, Ore., Jerry (Barb) Gilbert of Pahrump, Nev., and Kathryn (Robert) Parkinson of Charlotte; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Smurr of Charlotte; and brothers, Charles Goodrich and Richard Goodrich, both of Washington.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by sister Anna Roth and brother Alfred Goodrich.
No services were held. Internment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Area Senior Center in memory of Mrs. Gilbert. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Vern Gilding Jr.
Vern Gilding Jr., 81, of Charlotte, died Monday, May 5, 2003.
Mr. Gilding was born Jan. 27, 1922 in Eaton County, the son of Vern Sr. and Vema (Farnham) Gilding. He served in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart for service during World War II. He returned from the war and worked at Oldsmobile from 1946 to his retirement in 1983. Vern also raised honey bees and enjoyed gardening. He married Betty Irene Wright on Jan. 29, 1944; she survives.
He is also survived by son, David (Sandy) Gilding of Charlotte; daughter, Diana (Curt) Oglesby of Wacousta; son, Rod (Gloria) Gilding of Bellevue; daughter, Renee Carter of Nashville; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild; brothers, Kenneth (Jeanie) Gilding, John Gilding, Don (Lela) Gilding all of Arizona; sisters, Gerry Burrows of Detroit, Robert Gilding of Hubbardston, and Katherine Crawford of Onondaga.
He was preceded in death by sister, Lanore Cole in 2002.
Funeral services were held May 7 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Roy Backus officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery in Chester Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
Howard B. Gillette
Howard B. Gillette, 85, of Tawas City, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003.
Howard was born Oct. 3, 1917 in Charlotte, the son of Clarence and Mary Gillette. He was a veteran of World War II, during which he served as a lieutenant in the Military Police and was stationed mainly in the Asian Pacific. He had a strong interest in model trains, camping and traveling. Howard was also a Michigan State Police officer and was stationed at the Cadillac, Bay City and Mt. Pleasant posts. He left the police force after many years to pursue a career in construction and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, to whom he was married for 60 years; one daughter, Julie (Lee) Lockman of Tawas City; two grandsons, James Lockman of Big Rapids and Robert (Rachel) Lockman of East Tawas; one great-grandson, Jacob Howard; one sister, Beth Masters of Lansing, two nieces and one nephew.
A graveside burial service was held July 14 at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Tawas City.
Memorial contributions may be made to either Animal Humane Society, the Parkinsons Society, the American Cancer Society, or to the Tawas United Methodist Church.
Arrangements were by Jacques and Kobs Funeral Home of Tawas City.
Robert Jay Goddard
Robert Jay Goddard, age 69 of Eaton Rapids, died February 25, 2003. Mr. Goddard was born January 11, 1934 in Mason. He had retired from G.M.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy; 1 daughter, Teresa Potter of Lansing; 3 sons, Roy (Darlene) Goddard of Leslie, George (Cathey) Goddard of Ithaca, and Dennis (Coleen) Goddard of Kentucky; 3 step-sons, Robert Dickerson and Gary Oberlin both of Eaton Rapids and Jeff Oberlin of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, George R. (Doris) Goddard of Eaton Rapids; 4 sisters, Mary Bachelder of Mt. Pleasant, Betty (Donald) Dunlap of Harrison, Jean (Vernon ) Burns of Mason, Rose Elaine (Ron) Cooper of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services have been held with internment in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos. Those desiring may make contributions to the charity of one’s choice in memory of Mr. Goddard. The family is being served by the Gorseline-Runciman Co. Ball-Dunn Chapel, Mason.
Alta Goheen
Alta Goheen, 96, of Frankfort and formerly of Grand Ledge, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003. She was born on July 9, 1906 in Stanton, the daughter of Henry B. and Minnie (Watson) Sedelmaier.
Alta married Thomas Goheen on Sept. 30, 1928 in Gladwin. He died in March of 1971. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and sewing. Alta was a member of the Charlotte Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Alta is survived by her daughters, Viva (Nelson) Fender of Frankfort, Nancy (Joe) Lang of West Branch, Emily (Gary) Hawks of Lansing, sons, Mark and Milford Goheen of Frankfort, Elrey (Dorothy) Goheen of Independence, Missouri, Isaac (Juanita) Goheen of Mesick, 20 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren, and son-in-law, Bob Gillis of Douglas.
Her parents, husband, daughter, Leona Gillis and five brothers, and three sisters precede her in death. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Jan. 4 at the Charlotte Branch of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
