Stuart Charles Chalker
84, of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, died Friday, July 20, 2001. Mr Chalker was born May 10, 1917, in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Charles and Hazel (Smith) Chalker. He was a boiler control repairman for the Lansing Board of Water and Light for 30 years. He served with the Army Air Force during WWII. He was a member of the Masons and the American Legion. He is survived by daughter Sharon Chalker of St. Johns, MI., and stepdaughters Mary Lou Lohr of San Diego, CA., and Kathy (Robb) Dickerson of Rogers, Arkansas, 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2001 at South Church of the Nazarene 401 West Holmes Rd, Lansing, Michigan.
Clarence Wesley Vance
76, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Friday, July 27, 2001. Mr. Vance was born April 9, 1925 in Charleston, West Virginia, the son of Clayton and Maggie (Taylor) Vance. He was a laborer at Owens-Illinois Brockway Glass Containers and had been a member of Eagles Aerie of Ohio. He enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, fishing and collected coins and stamps. He is survived by his wife Gay (Kessinger) Vance; daughters Sue Vance of Dimondale; Brenda (Chuck) Tomlinson of Charlotte; Chris (Steve) Morris of Charlotte; Terri (Joe) Jenson of Charlotte; Rita Poyer of Bellevue; son William (Sue) Vance of Bellevue; 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, sister Alpha Meadows of WV; brothers Dennis Vance, Leonard Vance, Jim Vance, Jack Vance, Garland Vance, Bob Vance all of WV; Jerry Vance of FL, Cecil Vance of IL. He was preceded in death by brothers Clinton Vance and Charles Vance and sisters Retha Facemyer and Ruth Linville and son-in-law Brian Poyer. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2001 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Paul Davis and Rev. Jim Vance officiating. Rodney Manning Frei
age 29, of Eaton Rapids, Michigan died Saturday, August 11, 2001 a result of a motorcycle accident. Mr. Frei was born October 13, 1971 in Lansing, Michigan, the son of Dennis and Nancy (Budziak) Frei. He worked in the Technical and Facilities Maintenance Department, College of Veterinarian Medicine at Michigan State University. He was a loving and devoted father to his daughters, a great and loyal friend to many. He was an avid motorcycle fan and raised money for the St.Vincent Home for Children through the Survivors Motorcycle Charity Run. He is survived by daughters Chelsie, Mackenzi and Hannah, his parents, sister Courteney Frei, and grandfather John Budziak. Funeral mass will be 11:00 AM Monday at St. Mary Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis R. Spitzley officiating. Visitation will be 6-9 Sunday, August 12 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Hildred Rosalie Bowser
85 of Charlotte, Michigan, died Saturday, September 8, 2001. Mrs. Bowser was born July 15, 1916 in Vermontville, Michigan, the daughter of Oscar and Ida Bell (Wells) Stevens. She was an upholsterer with the Charlotte Chair Company and a member of the West Carmel Congregational Church. She enjoyed her family and their activities, crossword puzzles, and gardening. She liked the senior citizen dinners in Charlotte and Olivet and especially loved her trips up north to the shack in Onaway. She is survived by daughters Sandra (John) Rollins of Marshall, Cheryl (Verlin) Franks of Olivet, son Ronald (Virginia) Bowser of Olivet, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sisters Eloise Thompson of Charlotte, Maxine (Zack) Beard of Battle Creek brother Merlin (Martha) Stevens of Sun City, Arizona, and sister-in-law Donis Barnett of Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth and sisters Marguerite Bunce and Doris Ranshaw, brothers Murray and Hubert Stevens. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 11 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. 86, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Tuesday, September 11, 2001. Mr. Carter was born March 17, 1915, in Eaton County, Michigan, the son of Guy A. and Pearl E. (Doane) Carter. He bottled milk for 25 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Men's Prayer and Breakfast Group. He was known around Charlotte as the downtown window cleaner. He is survived by son Donald Lee Carter of Plainwell, daughters Rosealie (Larry) Demarest of Union City, Joan Lawrence of Texas, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, brothers Raymond (Harriet) Carter, Lyle (Judy) Carter, sisters Marie Nunhimer, Maxine (Clarence) Carnes, Mable (Clarreton) Cortright, Florence (Lyle) Jeffery, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Leola (Hutson) in 1998, daughter Louise Masters, granddaughter Tonya, and brothers Merwine and Ivery. She was preceded in death by her husband Sam Vitale in 1983, step-daughter Ana Willoughby and step-son Ralph Vitale. Gale C. Good
85 of Charlotte, Michigan, died September 16, 2001. He was born April 18, 1916 in Isabella County, Michigan, the son of Clarence A. and Julia May (Ingersoll) Good. He had immense compassion for his family and took care of his wife for the last five years. He was a very honest man with a fantastic sense of humor, loved fishing on Lacy Lake and playing shuffleboard and his love of travel took him to every state except Hawaii and Alaska. Mr. Good was a retired truck driver for the Dana Corporation. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Inez (Breidinger), sons Gayland D. Good of Charlotte, Edward Lee, and Ivan L. Good of Lansing, Loren A. Evans of Muncie, Indiana; daughters Evelyn (Harry) Carpenter of Charlotte, Lydia (James) Baker of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brothers James Good of Zephyr Hills, Florida, Paul Good of Charlotte, 34 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 2 sons, Clifford W. Good and Ardnold Good, and by brother Ira Good. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 19 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Chuck Jenson officiating. Interment will be in Gresham Cemetery. Michelle Hughson
35 of Jackson, Michigan, died September 17, 2001 in Jackson. Ms. Hughson was born June 19, 1966 in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of James Michael and Sandra (Fetterman) Skrip. She was a Radiologist Technician for 12 years at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte. She loved making oil candles. She is survived by sons Lance and Luke of Mason, mother Sandra (Jan) Skrip of Apache Junction, Arizona, father James (Jean) Michael of Evart, Michigan, brother Russ Michael of Charlotte, half brothers Jon (Dawn) Skrip and Steve Skrip of Charlotte. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, September 20 at Pray Funeral Home with Pastor Bert Walker officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. 61 of Mulliken, Michigan died Tuesday, September 18, 2001. Mr. Davis was born May 11, 1940, in Charlotte, Michigan, the son of Warren and Esther (McCormick) Davis. He was a machine repairman for BOC in Lansing, an avid deer and game hunter and a solid supporter of the NRA. He is survived by his wife Mary (Brandt), daughter Kelly (Jack) Spinner of Grand Ledge, son Jeffrey Davis of Elkhart, Indiana, 3 grandchildren, Shane, Jacqualyn and Shanandua Rust. Irel R. Berryhill
64 of Charlotte, died Thursday September 21, 2001. Mr. Berryhill was born May 25, 1937 in Detroit Michigan. Irel enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing and classic cars. He was a member of South Baptist Church of Lansing. He is survived by his wife Jean, son John (Seung) Berryhill of Lapeer, daughters Johana (David) Breaun of East Pointe, Sarah (Robert) Clair of Sterling Heights, several grandchildren, brother Richard Berryhill and sister-in-law Sally Leavy of Peoria, Illinois. Mr Berryhill was preceded in death by a son Eric in 1984. Funeral Services will be 3:00 PM Monday at the Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor David Brooks officiating. Duane Coon
age 57 of Charlotte died Saturday September 22, 2001. Mr. Coon was born August 4, 1944 in Lakeview, the son of Neil and Burnetta (Gill). Mr. Coon is survived by his wife Linda, Daughters Dani (Leon) McAdams of Dewitt, Jenny Coon of Charlotte; son Charles (Patti) Coon of Charlotte, Grandaughters Macy and Keeley Coon and his mother Burnetta Coon of Lake Odessa. He was predeceased by his father Neil and brother Beryl Coon, Duane was a driver for General Motors Company until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed many varied interests including drag racing, tractor pulls, and more recently computers and fishing. Funeral services will be Wednesday 10 AM at the Pray Funeral Home, with Rev. Jerry Slivensky officiating. The family will receive visitors Monday 7-9, and Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM.
