Percy Lehman
Percy Lehman, 93, of Roscommon, died July 11, 2003 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Mr. Lehman was born in Charlotte Sept. 26, 1909, to William and Erta (Waddell) Lehman. He married Ruth Owen Oct. 25, 1931; she died May 28, 2001. Mr. Lehman moved to Roscommon from Pontiac in 1945. He worked in banking for 51 years, retiring in 1979 as chairman of the board of Roscommon State Bank, where he was president from 1970 to 1974. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and the Roscommon Area Historical Society, and acharter member of the Houghton-Higgins Elks Lodge.
Surviving are two sons, Richard (Carol) Lehman of Lansing and Gerald (Dyna) Lehman of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Kevin (Donna) Lehman, Karen Byford, Julie Lehman, Raelee (Ron) Edgar, Lisa (Kevin) Chapin and Pamela (Dale) Nutt; and 12 great-grandchildren, Ben and Emily Lehman, Jennifer and Gregory Byford, Danielle, Nicholas and Connor Chapin, Matthew and Brianne Edgar, and Tyler, Keegan, and Mitchell Nutt.
Services were held July 16 at the First Congregational Church in Roscommon, with Rev. James Beinke officiating. Interment was held at Pioneer Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church. Arrangements were by Walsh Funeral Home in Roscommon.
David Leightner
David (Del) Leightner of Springport, passed away at home under the loving care of his family and the Heartland Hospice, on Tuesday, April1, 2003 at the age of 88. He was born August 18, 1914, the son of Harry J. and Mardel (Conner) Leightner. Del married Donna Lonsbery on June 15, 1934. Surviving are his wife, a son, Larry (Alta) Leightner and daughter Linda (Fred Rogers) all of Springport, eight grandchildren, Terri Bartel, David (Jackie) Leightner, Donald & Scott Leightner, Kevin, Willams, Steven & Chad Rogers, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 niece, 3 nephews and 3 cousins.
Del served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was Past Commander of Adams Rocky VFW Post # 6056 and a life member of the Springport Masonic Lodge #287. Del retired from the Michigan Dept. of Corrections after 30 years of Service.
A service celebrating Del’s life was held at the Robertson Springport chapel on Friday, April 4, with Pastor David Blair officiating. Interment in the Springport Cemetery.
Irene J. Lennon
Irene Julia Lennon, 76, of Bellevue, died Oct. 2, 2003 at home surrounded by her family.
She was born Jan. 6, 1927 to Anthony and Anna (Lendval) Sulyok in Bellevue, and graduated from Bellevue High School. Mrs. Lennon worked for 17 years at Kellogg Company. She married Wayne Lennon on June 23, 1951; he survives. Irene’s parents were founding members of Bellevue’s St. Ann Catholic Church, where she was a lifelong member. She was also a member of the St. Ann Quilting Club and volunteered for many acts of service at St. Ann’s. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Wayne; sons, James (Linda) Lennon of Elmhurst, Ill., Michael (Karen) Lennon of Delton; daughters, Deborah (Steve) Green, Connie Lennon, Martha (Don) Otto, all of Bellevue, and Mary (Dan) Moreland of Augusta; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Rose (Ed) Shehane of Ft. Smith, Ark.; and sister-in-law, Rose Kormos of Mesa, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother James Kormos, and sister Anna Sebo.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Oct. 6 at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bellevue, with Monsignor Raymond Goehring officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or the Secular Order of Franciscans. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Gordon Leonard
Gordon W. Leonard, 61, of Bellevue, died Aug. 5, 2003 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Mr. Leonard was born Aug. 9, 1941 to Donald and Doris (Kelser) Leonard in Nashville and graduated from Bellevue High School. He worked as an electrician for IBEW Local 445 and then with General Motors in Lansing in the maintenance department. Gordon married Linda Greenfield on Aug. 6, 1960; she survives. He was a member of the Bellevue Conservation Club, Gold Wing Road Riders Motorcycle Association, BPOE 131, and the Centerline Gun Club.
Surviving are his wife, Linda; sons, Daniel Leonard and Jeffery (Lynn) Leonard, both of Battle Creek; four grand-children and one great-grandchild; his father Donald Leonard of Nashville; brothers, Norman (Lois) Leonard of Westphalia, Roger (Jane) Leonard of Battle Creek and Neil (Janice) Leonard of Lacey; and sister Mary Campbell of Battle Creek.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Leonard, and son, Allen Leonard.
Services were held Aug. 8 at Nashville Baptist Church, with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.
Memorial contributions may be made to Haven of Rest in Battle Creek. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Joan C. Lett
Joan Charlotte Lett, 70 of Potterville, died Aug. 8, 2003 in Lansing.
Mrs. Lett was born March 1, 1933 in East Lansing, the daughter of Shirl and Charlotte (Chase) Leathers. She graduated from Central Michigan University and enjoyed her family, grandkids and church.
She is survived by sons, Jerry (Patty) Lett of Lansing, Steve (Robin) Lett of Potterville, Chuck (Ann) Lett of Charlotte; daughter, Janice (Rick) Dortch of Virginia; 10 grandchildren, Janson Endres, Jennifer Endres, Rick Dortch, David Lett, Nicholas Lett, Brent Hanes, Jessica Lett, Jordan Lett and Shane Bozack; brothers, Ed Leathers of Dimondale and Donald Leathers of Wisconsin; sisters Barb Gulick of Laingsburg, Mary Canfield of Bath, Kay Dugan of Bath; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful dog, Bear.
She was preceded in death by husband Ralph J. Lett in 1997.
Funeral services were held Aug. 13 at Potterville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Potterville United Methodist Church or the Capital Area Humane Society. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
C. Paul Letts
C. Paul Letts, age 91 of Eaton Rapids died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at his home. Paul was born April 17, 1911 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Grover Claude and Ruby Edna (Harris) Letts. He was a member of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church, a life long Boy Scout and active scout leader and senior advisor. In 1929, Paul received the first Eagle Scout award in Eaton Rapids and also received the Silver Beaver in 1969. Mr. Letts was a teacher and principal for 22 years at King Street School in Eaton Rapids retiring in 1975. In the mid 1970s, Letts Field, in Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada, was named in honor of Paul for his involvement in International Camporee. He was preceded in death by his wife Isabelle Marie in 1992; son, Cornelious Paul Garth Letts in 2002; brothers, Carrol W. Letts, 1972, David D. Letts in 1983 and sister, Elida Cassidy in 1998.
Surviving are 4 daughters, Paulita Marie Louise (Gary Lee Coudron) Lucky of Eaton Rapids, Corya Ruby Jane (Estill, Jr.) Johnson of Olivet, Georgia Rose Luree Moore of Eaton Rapids, Gene Carrol Germaine Mollitor, of Eaton Rapids; 2 sons, John Rolfe Sergei (Betty) Letts of Otsego, Dennis “Pete” Scott Perry (Helen) of Lansing; 2 daughters-in-law, Lisa Letts of Wayne, Alice Standish of Pleasant Lake; 35 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; sister, Alberta Louise (George) Harris of Eaton Rapids and 11 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to the Chief Okemos Counsel of the Boy Scouts of America in memory of C. Paul Letts.
Gary A. Lightner
Gary “Stubby” Arno Lightner, of Charlotte, passed away June 7, 2003 in Charlotte at the age of 57.
Gary was born in Carmel Township Nov. 26, 1945, the son of Harry and Janet (Macdonald) Lightner.
He is survived by his mother, Janet (Lightner) Haff; three sisters, Audrey (Bud) Ommen of Vermontville, Margaret (Roy) French and Linda White, both of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lightner was predeceased by his father Harry Lightner in 1976, and his brother James Lightner in 2000.
Graveside services were held June 10 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Lewis O. Link
Lewis Orville Link, 69, of Howell, died Tuesday Feb. 4, 2003.
Mr. Link was born May 8, 1933 in Maple Grove Township, the son of Andrew Frank and Vonda Grace (Elleston) Link. He was a supervisor at General Motors and a member of VFW post 8260.
He is survived by son, Robert (Barb) Link of Manistee; grandchildren, Susan Vettese, Mark Vettese, and Angie Hagadorn; step-grandson, Tom Darling; step-granddaughter, Kim Frisbie; and sister, Louise Starkweather of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eloise Ion “Weebe” Link.
Family and friends are invited to share in the Family Affirmation Services at 1 p.m. Saturday Feb. 8 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.
