Bernarda V. Littich
Bernarda (Bernie) V. Littich, passed away Aug. 12, 2003 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
Bernie was born March 17, 1917 in Marceline, Mo., the daughter of Blasé and Mary Sporer. Her last employment was with the state of Michigan. Bernie was a member of St. Mary’s Church since 1947, and active member of the choir, past president of the Rosary Altar Society, a Liturgist, member of the “Happy Years Club” and a Reading Grandmother at St. Mary’s school. She was also a volunteer at the Hayes Green Beach Gift Basket and Meals on Wheels. Her hobbies were crocheting, bingo, crossword puzzles, music, and her beloved cat, Tawni.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Loyd D. in 1987; her parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Michele LeBrun (John), Melanie Clark (Steven), and Maraloy Thomas; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass was celebrated Aug. 15 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis Spitzley as celebrant. Rite of Commitment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or the Education Trust Fund in memory of Bernie. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Dorr H. Love
Dorr Horace Love passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2003 at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. of pulmonary fibrosis.
Born March 26, 1920 in Vermontville, to parents Warren and Delilah (French) Love, Dorr was one of nine children including four brothers, Lawrence, Clarence, Horace and Lloyd; and four sisters, Gertrude, Bertha, Vivian and Marie. He loved sharing his fond memories of life on the farm growing up in Charlotte. Mr. Love attended Frobel Grade School and Charlotte High School, where he was an award-winning track star. He went to Alma College, and graduated from Michigan State University’s School of Agriculture. A devout MSU alumni and passionate golfer, Love was often spotted on the golf course with a MSU flag blowing in the wind from his cart.
Dorr served in World War II as a U.S. Navy Pharmacist First Class while stationed in New Caldonia. While working for the Cherry Brill Co., he met Martha Earlene Tiem, the love of his life and future wife at the Wilcox Gay Radio Co. in Charlotte, where she worked. They married June 18, 1948 and celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary this year. Dorr’s career took advantage of growing up on a farm and his agricultural education. He went from a position with the Michigan Milk Producers in Imlay City, to being vice president of London’s Farm Dairy Co. in Port Huron. Dorr later owned and operated the Western Auto and IGA stores of North Branch.
Dorr and Martha made their home in Port Huron and Tucson, Ariz. for several years before adopting Tucson as their permanent home in 1994. Love was a member of the Casas Adobes Congregational Church in Tucson, Ariz. and a former member of the Lakeshore Presbyterian Church of Port Huron and a member of the Michigan Masons since 1950. He received special recognition from former Michigan Governor George Romney for his work as the regional chairman of Michigan Week. He was also recognized for his service to the Blue Water Council of Boy Scouts and by the North Branch Area Ambulance Volunteers.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Love of Tucson, Ariz.; son, Mark Horace Love and daughter-in-law, Lynne (Hrisca) Love and their children, Sarah and Mara Love, all of Scottsdale, Ariz. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Eddy, his wife, Barbara Eddy, and Alyssa Eddy, all of Gilbert Ariz.
Mr. Love was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela “P.J.” Prentice, his parents and eight siblings.
A private service for family members was held in Tucson, Ariz. and a memorial service to honor him is planned for July 2004 in Port Huron.

Maurice A. Lumbert
Maurice A. Lumbert, age 73, of Palatka, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003 at Elkhart General Hospital in Elkhart, Ind.
Mrs. Lumbert was born in Lansing, the daughter of Milo and Arloa (Cook) Marcham and lived in Charlotte for many years prior to moving to Palatka, Fla. While in Charlotte, she was employed at many places including Hi-Lo Restaurant, Dick’s Restauraunt, T.G.&Y. Store, Alpine Bar, One Hour Martinizing, and Washington Elementary School. Mrs. Lumbert was a member of the local senior citizens group in Palatka, Fla.
Surviving are four daughters, Terrie (Elmer) Anglemyer of Waukarusa, Ind., Patricia Dunham of Omaha, Neb., Brenda (Gerald) Morvant of Groves, Texas, and Denise Handziak of Charlotte; five step-children, Virginia (Ron) Plockelman of Reno, Nev., Archie (Terry Bashore) Lumbert III of Potterville, Barbara Jerome of Reno, Nev., Peter (Nancy) Lumbert of Gobels and Steve (Lynda) Lumbert of Munith; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Carl Marcham of Satsuma, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Lumbert, Jr. in 1999; granddaughter, Courtney Lynn Lumbert in 1989; and grandson, Joshua Paul Hanziak in 1999.
Funeral services were held Oct. 29 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Darold Hill of Charlotte Free Methodist Church officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.

Winona Lumbert
Winona “Pat” Lumbert, 69, of Charlotte, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2003.
Mrs. Lumbert was born Feb. 17, 1934 in Athens, Mich., the daughter of John and Arlene (Ling) Watson, Sr. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Eaton Manor, enjoyed her great nieces and nephews and was a proud member of the Potawatomi Tribe of Michigan.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Lumbert; brother, Frank (Mary) Watson of Scotts; sister, Wanetta Watson of Fulton; nephew, Claude (Sue) Hine of Vermontville; niece, Lorie (Roger) Smith of Vermontville; and nephew, Larry Watson of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Ramona Hine, Barbara Watson and Beverly Watson; and brothers, John Watson and Jim Garvie.
Funeral services were held Oct. 23 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with R. Raymond Russell officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Richard Lundeen
Richard Lundeen, age 59, of Grant, formerly of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003 at United Memorial Hospital in Greenville after a three-month illness.
Mr. Lundeen was born May 30, 1944 in Charlotte, the son of Theodore and Dorothy (Allen) Lundeen. He was raised in Charlotte and graduated in 1962 from Charlotte High School. He spent the last 22 years in Newaygo County.
He is survived by his sister Florence (Robert) Donley; two brothers, William (Cecelia) Lundeen and James (Alice) Lundeen, all of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linda Fisher.
Memorial services were held Nov. 8 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Arrangements were by Lux Funeral Home of Alma.
Helen Magoon
Helen B. Magoon, 79, was promoted to glory when the Lord summoned her home on Feb. 21. Helen was born on Feb. 10, 1924 to Archie and Harriet (Pullman) Thompson in Nashville, Michigan.
She and Gayle Magoon were married on Dec. 26, 1942 in Tulsa, Oklahoma where Gayle was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. Helen had been Probate Register at the Eaton County Probate Court, retiring on her 65th birthday after 20 years of service. Helen visited nursing homes for 55 years and volunteered for The Salvation Army in Charlotte for 33 years and for the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Gift Shop for 12 years.
Helen is survived by her husband Gayle of 60 years, one son, Stanley (Lynda) Magoon of Chicago, one daughter, Linda (Kermit) Ramey of Vermontville, two brothers, Harold Thompson of Bellevue and Earl (Tracy) Thompson of Sunfield, two sisters, Barbara June Shaver of Napoleon, Ohio and Sharon (John) Milbourn of Mass City, Michigan, three grandsons, Tim (Paula) Ramey, Brett (Cass) Ramey both of Vermontville and Greg (Michelle) Magoon of Chicago, two granddaughters, Amanda (Dave) Martin of Charlotte and Erin Magoon of Chicago, five great grandsons and one great granddaughter.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Major David Corliss and Capt. Kevin Cedarvall officiating. Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday, 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday.

Florence I. Mahan
Florence I. Mahan, age 94, of Charlotte, died Monday, May 12, 2003 after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Mahan was born July 27, 1908 in Deleware County, Ind., the daughter of Henry David and Mary Elizabeth (Crooks) Kirkwood, and was a lifelong Charlotte-area resident. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church in Charlotte and Brookfield OES #352. She was married to James Henry Mahan on April 2, 1930; he preceded her in death Dec.1, 1977.
Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn (Bruce) Monroe-Hart; son, James (Regina) Mahan; brother-in-law, E. Dale (Audrey) Mahan; granddaughters, Gina (Steve) Abbot and Lynne Mahan; great-grandson, Dominic; and compassionate caregivers, Dr. Thomas Sainz and the Fuentes family.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Richard Gene in 1942; an infant daughter in 1944, and two adult granddaughters, Michelle Monroe and Pamela Carpenter.
At Mrs. Mahan’s request, there was no funeral home visitation. Graveside services were held May 15 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, with Rev. Rebecca Morrison officiating.

Ione B. Mahan
Ione B. (Alspaugh) Mahan, age 71, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2003 at her residence.
Mrs. Mahan was born Aug. 26, 1932, the daughter of Vernon and Luella (Mack) Alspaugh and had been a Charlotte resident since 1946. Over the years she had been employed at Andy’s Restaurant, Dick’s Restaurant, Michigan Magnetics, Jumpin’ Jeans, Care Free Products, Ownes-Illinois, Charlotte schools and the Doll Shop. She was an avid collector, especially of dolls and bears.
Surviving are one daughter, Jolinda (Frank) Harmon and one son, Randy Merrill, both of Charlotte; two step-daughters, Julia (Bob) Crosslan of Marionette, Wis., and Gerry (Jack) Holbrook of Eaton Rapids; one step-son, John Mahan of Grand Rapids; four foster daughters, Vevia (John) Beaulieu of North Ft. Myers, Fla., Verna (Ron) Rader of Branch, Elizabeth (Herb) Cross of Scottville and Luella (Steve) King of Harrison; 24 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ruben Mahan on Jan. 31, 2003; sister, Sharon Ann Sedlecky; and grandson Ronson Robert Rader.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Ronnie Calhoun of Purpose Outreach Ministries officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
