Donald Merren
Donald A. Merren, 60 of Bellevue, wnet to be with the Lord, April 1, 2003. Mr. Merren was born Dec. 23, 1942 in Kent County, the son of John Henry and Leora Jane (Brownyard) Merren.
Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He worked for Tucker, Inc. and Contract Supply Inc. He was a member of Carpenter’s Union Local 1004.
He is survived by his wife Janet (Campbell) Merren, son, Scott of Charlotte, three daughters, Loretta (Mark Lee) Betts of Hulbert, Kimberly Ann Rounds (Pat) of St. Johns, and Deanna Barnum (Louis VanElsacker) of Northland, 12 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his mother and step father, Leora and Albert P. Smith of Marshall, brother, John Edward (Patricia) Merren of Toledo, sister, Mary (Charles) Crosby of Marshall and sister-in-law, Dorene Bearndt, mother-in-law Francis Campbell of Lansing, In-Laws: Barb and Leroy Cole of Axamsville, TN, Pauline and Grover Bibler of Springport, Marlene Stravos and Paul Ulrich of Vermontville, Paul and Linda Campbell of Charlotte, Gale & Cathy Campbell of Jackson, and Kay & Andrew Pray of Vermontville.
He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip in 2000, brother, William in 1977, his father, John, in 1962, father-in-law Milo D. Campbell in 1988 and brother-in-law Gerald M. Campbell in 1967.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Roy Atherton officiating. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mary J. Merriman
Mary Jane Merriman, 73, of Bellevue, passed away Jan. 30, 2003 at Battle Creek Health System.
Mrs. Merriman was born Sept. 21, 1929 to George and Margaret (Collins) Wiegand in Battle Creek. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1946 and attended Argubright Business School. Mrs. Merriman worked on the packaging line at Kellogg’s for eight years. She married Walter “Fred” Merriman on Nov. 14, 1947. She enjoyed spending time with her family, painting at Burnham Brook and going to the casino. She also attended the Marian E. Burch Adult Day Care Center. Surviving are her husband, Fred; son, David (Robin) Merriman of Battle Creek; daughter, Darlene (Lawrence) Bolen of Grand Rapids; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Wiegand of Florida; sisters, Gladys Root of Florida and Judy Otney of Marshall. She was preceded in death by sons Dan and Richard Merriman, and brothers Ken and Richard Wiegand. Services were held Feb. 3 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor Donald Francis of First Baptist Church in Bellevue officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marian E. Burch Adult Day Care Center.
Beatrice L. Michael
Beatrice Laura Micael, 85, of Dimondale, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003.
Mrs. Michael was born June 12, 1918 in Findley, Ohio the daughter of Chester and Sadie (Hardwick) Eitinear. Mrs. Michael was the manager of the Waters Shoe Store in Charlotte for 25 years. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and enjoyed crocheting and was a wonderful cook, famous for her peanut butter fudge and potato salad.
She is survived by her husband, Julius Jay Michael; sons, Gary Michael of Olivet, Douglas (Helen) Michael of Olivet, Gerald (Dianne) Michael of Ocqueoc, and James (Jean) Micael of Evart; daughter, Marilyn (Niles) Beardslee of Arizona; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; and sister, Geraldine Steers of Indiana.
Private family services were held.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Willard L. Mikesell
Willard L. Mikesell, 78, of Charlotte, died Sept. 30, 2003, surrounded by his family at Ingham Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Mikesell – “Mike” as he was known by his family and friends – was born April 18, 1925 to George Edward Mikesell and Marie Laura (Wilson) Mikesell in Charlotte. He graduated Charlotte High School in 1942, University of Michigan, 1950, Wayne State University Law School 1953, admitted to the State Bar Association of Michigan 1953, Assistant Attorney General State of Michigan 1953 to 1955, Special Deputy Highway Commissioner State of Michigan 1956 to1960, entered private practice in Charlotte in 1960, Eaton County Prosecutor 1965 to 1968, eledted 5th Circuit Judge for Barry-Eaton counties 1970, and re-entered private practice in 1977. Mike’s Naval career began in July 1943 as a Navy Carrier pilot, Sr. Reserve Officer, Naval War College 1968, and retired as a full commander form the Naval Air Cops in 1974.
Mike was a member of many organizations including Eaton County Bar Association (past president), American Trial Lawyers Association, Michgian Judges Association, Eaton County Republican Party (past chairman), VFW Post # 2406 (past commander), American Legion (past commander), Charlotte Lodge #120 F.& A.M., 32nd Degree Mason, Eaton County Shrine Club – Saladin Temple (past president), Eaton County Buck Club, Lions International, Eagles, B.P.O. Elks, Charlotte High School Alumni (past president), First Congregational Church, Reserve Officer Association of U.S., and the Naval Reserve Association.
Mike loved to have his family around him. Whether it was a big dinner, watching his grandchildren play, hunting, ice fishing, playing cards or working on the farm.
He was a huband to Neva for 45 years and a father to Jim (Susan) Mikesell, Terri (Brad) Morton, Ann Mikesell-Ringrose, Tom (Traci) Mikesell, Kathy (Jeff) Vigue and Carol (Larry) Fields; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathleen Fowler; and granddaughter, Cara Ann Morton.
Funeral services were held Oct. 4 at Charlotte First Congregational UCC Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Children’s Home or Shriner’s Hospital for Children. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Martin Douglas “Doug” Miller
Martin Douglas “Doug” Miller, age 51, of Parma, died May 22, 2003 at the University of Michigan Hospital. He was born in Eaton Rapids July 30, 1951, the son of Robert and Beulah (Manchester) Miller. Mr. Miller was a resident of the Jackson County area, and graduated from East Jackson High School. He was a carpenter, doing home construction. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the outdoors. He was married to Dawn Marsh in Jackson, Michigan on April, 4 2001, and was preceded in death by his brother Charles.
Surviving are his wife Dawn, a daughter, Amber Wadsten, Vicksburg, MI, stepchildren, Marissa Banner, Matt Banner and Mitch Banner, all of Parma, 2 grandchildren, Geoffrey and Sheldon Wadsten, Vicksburg, MI, parents Robert and Beulah Miller, 2 brothers, Gregory Miller of Parma and Michael (Lana) Miller of Jackson, several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapel in Parma with Father Bennett Constantine officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Cemetery. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the service time at the chapel. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society of charity of one’s choice.
Elizabeth Mitchell
Elizabeth “Betty” Mitchell, 83, formerly of Charlotte and Midland, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003 in Charlotte.
Mrs. Mitchell was born Oct. 21, 1919 in Colorado Springs, Colo., the daughter of Frederick Alexander and Elizabeth May (Devine) Forney. She attended Colorado Springs High School, graduating in 1937. Mrs. Mitchell attended the University of Denver and University of Michgian and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority where she held several offices. She married J. Ernest Mitchell on July 17, 1939, who prededed her in death in 2001. Mrs. Mitchell lived in Midland for 41 years and during those years was active in the Red Cross, Midland Hospital Auxilary; AAUW, past president of the Zoe Club and was a distinguished woman of Northwood University. She was Michigan Library League Chairperson, greeting and helping entertain guest speakers and entertainers and was chairperson of Town and Campus and helped start up the Northwood Gallery. While in Charlotte, Mrs. Mitchell was a member of the Charlote Women’s Club and attended St. John Episcopal Church. She and her husband spent their retirement years until 1995 between Torch Lake, Mich. and Sun City, Ariz.
Surviving are her son, John Mitchell; daughter, Shirley Potts; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 at St. John Episcopal Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Carol Spangenberg officiating. Interment will be at Midland Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Terrence “Tate” David Mix
Terrence “Tate” David Mix, 50, of Woodland, Michigan died Wednesday, March 5, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Mix was born February 17, 1953, Chicago, Illinois, the son of Louis and Eva (Shereyk) Mix. Tate was Principal of Alternative Education for Maple Valley Schools and Director of the Second Chance Program thru Eaton County Probate Court. He was a member of the Michigan National Guard, Nashville Masonic Lodge # 255 F&AM, and the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Pamela (Townsend), sons Jeff (Selena) Duits of Sunfield, Greg (Tricia) Duits of Woodland, Chris Duits of Sunfield, 5 grandchildren Sarah, Emily, Hannah, Austin and Sophie Duits, sister Vicki (David) Thompson of Vermontville, brother Jeffery Mix of Ohio, brother Kevin (Linda) Mix of Wacousta, his parents Lois and Eva Mix of Vermontville, sisters-in-law Peggy (Ron) France of Lake Odessa, Barbara (Darrel) Bosworth of Mulliken, Shelley Steward of Woodland, mother-in-law Wilma Townsend of Lake Odessa and many nieces and nephews. Terry was predeceased by his father-in-law Jeff Steward and nephew Lucas Steward. Terry was a loving and compassionate man. The love he gave was returned by all those whose lives he touched. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2003 at Grace Community Church, Nashville, Michigan with Clark Volz – Superintendent of Maple Valley Schools, Pastor Douglas Reichenback and Pastor Darrel Bosworth officiating. Interment will be at Woodland Cemetery in Woodland, Michigan. A Rosary Service will be held Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. The family will receive visitors Thursday 6-8 p.m., Friday 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity. Robert W. Moist
Robert Ward Moist, 76, of Lansing, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003.
Mr. Moist was born July18, 1926 in Grand Rapids, the son of Myron and Vera (Russell) Moist. He was a retired drop forge worker at Motor Wheel, a former member of the State of Michigan Special Police in Lansing; he held the 1st State of Michigan license, owned “Bob’s Tatooing” on Lansing Road, and painted several murals throughout the Lansing area.
He is survived by sons, Robert Moist of Grand Ledge and Jerry (Connie) Moist of Eaton Rapids; daughters, Robin (John) Sigourney and Charlotte (Dan) Thaxton, both of Charlotte, Karen King of Potterville and Debbie Waugh of Lansing; 11 grandchildren; brother, Carl Moist of Charlotte; and sister, Margaret Ford of Grand Ledge.
Graveside services were held Jan.9 at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Andrew Monroe
Andrew Scott Monroe, 18, of Olivet, died Dec. 17, 2003 as a result of an automobile accident. Andrew was born Oct. 30, 1985 in Parkersburg, WV.
He was a senior at Olivet High School and the Battle Creek Tech Center where he was studying to become an automotive service technician. He enjoyed fishing and camping.
Andrew is survived by his parents Gerald “Jerry” and Cynthia “Cindy” (Seagraves) Monroe, sister Jessica Monroe, all of Olivet, grandparents Ray and Wanda Brink of Mt. Pleasant, James and Naidra Monroe of Webberville, Peggy Duncan of DeWitt and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday Dec. 22 at Olivet Congregational Curch in Olivet. Visitation will be Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Pray Funeral Home.
