Connor D. Schultz

Connor Douglas Schultz, infant son of Jarrod and Casey Schultz of Bellevue, died at birth May 15, 2003.

Survivors include his parents and brother Spencer at home. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Thomas R. Seltenright

Thomas R. Seltenright, 53, of Gulliver, formerly of Marshall, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003 after being stricken at his home.

Mr. Seltenright was born Dec. 9, 1949 in Marshall, the son of Allen and Virginia (Riser) Seltenright. He was a graduate of Bellevue High School and entered the U.S. Army following graduation, serving in the Vietnam War. He had been employed by the V.A. Hospital and Eaton Corp., both in Battle Creek. For the last several years, Mr. Seltenright was the principal caregiver for his mother. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He owned and raised raccoon dogs and loved spending time with them in the woods and fields.

He is survived by his daughters, Camille Seltenright of Kalamazoo and Virginia Seltenright of Phoenix, Ariz.; mother, Virginia Seltenright of Gulliver; sisters, Katherine Stewart of Battle Creek, Ellen Flynn of Manistique, Cheryl Burge of Bellevue and JoAnee Stewart of Jackson, Tenn.; brothers, Frederick Seltenright of Tabaras, Fla., Timothy Seltenright of Gulliver, Charles Seltenright of Marshall, Richard Seltenright and Russell Seltenright, both of Bellevue.

He was preceded in death by his father, Allen in 1997; brother Charles in 1967; and sister, JoAnne in infancy.

Services to celebrate Mr. Seltenright’s life were held Jan. 13 at the Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home in Marshall.

Memorial contributions many be made to the Thomas R. Seltenright Memorial Fund; assistance with memorials is available at the funeral home.

Carl E. Shafe

Carl Edward Shafe, 94, of Bellevue, died Dec. 10, 2003 at the home of his som Duane Shafe in Lakeland, Fla.

He was born Jan. 30, 1909 in Lee Township, one of nine children born to Edward and Minnie (Wing) Shafe. He enjoyed raising a garden each year, selling rhubarb, mushroom hunting , coon hunting and working on his farm. He also enjoyed sitting in his swing during the summer and having friends come and visit with him. Mr. Shafe was a member of the Baptist Church and a member of the Travel Trailer Club of Michigan. In his early years he worked at Fort Custer building as a foreman for the floor layers. He had also worked at the Veterans Hospital as a coal passer and a fireman for the boilers and a boiler repair man. He then went to work for the Duplex Printing Co. in the carpenter shop. In 1943 he went to work for Clark Equipment Co. of Battle Creek in the machine shop and also worked on the the assembly line until retiring in 1970.

He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice “Betty” Larison who passed away April 23, 1980; brothers Graden Fred and half-brother Charley; sisters, Lucille Babcock, Hazel Kibbles, Dora Vosburg, Maude Lott and half-sister, Mable.

He is survived by his two sons, Llewellyn “Wally” of Bellevue and Duane of Lakeland, Fla; brothers, Norris Shafe of Olivet and Raymond Shafe of Goodrich Lake; six grandchildren, Jack Shafe of Kentucky, Larry Shafe of Battle Creek, Judy McMillan of Bellevue, Ginnie Lucier of Greenville, Cindy Knowles of Florida and Tina Bohannon of Battle Creek; 12 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and special friend of 12 years, Zelma Thorton.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Lloyd D. Sharp

Lloyd D. Sharp, age 77, died Monday, April 28, 2003. A WW11 veteran, Lloyd served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a distributor for Hi-Class Canada Dry for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alleen Jo, two sons, Charlie and Mike, a daughter, Vickie, and brother, Devere.

Surviving are his three daughters, Sharon (Butch) Fedewa, Connie (Al) Alana and Diane (Ken) Pierce; loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tim Fedewa, AJ (Renee) Skylar and Ryan Alana, Andy (Shawntel) Alana, Charlie ( Kayla) Alana, Aaron Alana, Chad (Tricia) Kyle Sharp; and loving companion Barb Harder.

Services to honor his life were held on Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church in Marion, (three miles south of Marion on M-66) with Rev. Robert Keeler, officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sparrow Hospice Services/Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.

George W. Shaull

George Warren Shaull, 72, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003.

Mr. Shaull was born Jan. 30, 1931 in Charlotte, the son of Robert and Inez (Uhl) Shaull. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Purple Heart. George was a diesel mechanic for Gra-Bell. He traveled the USA on motorcycle and was private pilot and loved traveling.

He is survived by daughters, Trisha (Eric) Pruden of Charlotte, Debra Stone of Texas, Robin Oliver of Arizona; son, Steve Shaull of Charlotte; 20 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; step children, Janet Pena, Joanne Kita, Mark McIntire, Brian McIntyre, Kathy Juhola and James Miller.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Susan (Pettit) and second wife Viola (Allen), daughter Melissa, stepdaughter Cindy, sister Dorothy Pruden and brother Robert Shaull.

Funeral services were held April 26 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Mark Woodbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

Lawrence Lloyd Shaull

Lawrence L. Shaull, age 85, of Onondaga, died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at a Lansing hospital. Born November 25, 1918 in Lansing, the son of Herbert and Florence (Smith) Shaull. Mr. Shaull served in the Navy during World War II, and was a retired Die Tryout for General Motors in Lansing, serving 30 years of service. A member of the F.& A.M. Lodge #197 Onondaga and Lodge# 63 Eaton Rapids, a Life Member of O.E.S. Lodge #133 Onondaga and a member of the Rainbow Girls. Mr. Shaull was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth (Hall) on March 31, 1999.

Surviving are 6 children, Judith Lopez of Lansing, Dawn Marie (Don) Breault of Freeland, Chester (Janet) Shaull of Onondaga, Jo Ellen (David) Coven of Indian River, Harriett Elizabeth (Dan) Armstead of Lansing and Lawrence Marshall (Roxann) Shaull of Lansing, several grand and great grandchildren; brother, Burdean Shaull of Meridian Township.

At the request of Mr. Shaull there will be no services and interment of cremains will be placed next to his wife at Onondaga Cemetery. The arrangements were made through Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.

Esther M. Shaver

Ester Mary Shaver, 69, of Huntsville, Ark., formerly of Kalamo, died April 12, 2003 at her daughter’s residence.

Mrs. Shaver was born in Orangeville, Barry County, the daughter of Elmer Drewyor and Ester Roberts Drewyor. She helped out on the family dairy farm, and belonged to the Ladybug sewing club in Huntsville. Mary formerly helped in the family business in Kalamo, and also worked at General Aluminum in Charlotte. She was an avid fisherman.

She is survived by husband, Duane Carrol Shaver; daughters, Katheryn Heisler of Vermontville, Jackie (Jerry) Goddard of Nashville, Jody (Rich) Little of Vermontville; five grandchildren, Kim (John) May of Georgia, Jerry Goddard Jr. of Nashville, Maria (Nate) Johnson of Westland, Angela Little of Vermontville, Nick Little of Vermontville; and six great-grandchildren with one on the way; three brothers, Bob Drewyor of Eaton Rapids, Alford (Donna) Drewyor of Charlotte, and George (Marian) Drewyor of Martin; sister, Josephine (Richard) Champaign of Nashville, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mimmi and father Pippi Drewyor, brother Elmer Drewyor and sister Esma Kie Smith.

Funeral services were held April 16 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Robin Crouch officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Eaton-Barry County Hospice. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.

Ralph D. Shaver

Ralph D. Shaver, 77, of Charlotte, died Sunday, May 25, 2003 in Lansing.

Mr. Shaver was born Sept. 1, 1925, the son of Clinton and Jessie (VanOrman) Shaver. He served in the U.S. Army duing World War II, and retired from Fisher Body, Lansing, after 39 ½ years of service. He married Lois Masters, June 26, 1949 in Olivet. Ralph was a member of Maple City VFW Post #2406, American Legion Post #42, and had been vice president of the Michigan Fiddler’s Association. He was also a member and past president of the Original Michigan Fiddler’s Association, former fire chief of the Potterville Fire Dept., and past president of the Potterville School Board. He coached Little League baseball and basketball for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; two sons, Gary (Loraine) Shaver and Terry (Debbie) Shaver, both of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Jason, Benjamin, Matthew, April and Andy, all of Charlotte; two brothers, Neal (Alta) Shaver of Flint and Duane Shaver of Arkansas. He was preceded in death by infant daughter, Patricia Kay; brother, Melvin; and a sister, Geraldine.

Funeral services were held May 28 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Tom Peters officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Heart Association or Hayes Green Beach Hospital; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
