Roger S. Shaver
Roger Sherman Shaver, 50, of East Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, May 31, 2003.
Mr. Shaver was born May 22, 1953 in Charlotte, the son of Orville and Audra (Romine) Shaver.
He is survived by his sister, Donna Kay Shaver of Olivet; uncle, Merlin (June) Shaver of Marshall; aunts, Hazel Lasky of Michigan Center and Cordie Felder of Charlotte; cousin and guardian, Patricia Dunn; and many other cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister Shirley Shaver.
No services are planned at this time.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
William D. Sheldon
William D. Sheldon, 64, of Charlotte, died unexpectedly at his home May 18, 2003.
Mr. Sheldon was born April 27, 1939 in Grandville. He was a service repairman for Montgomery Ward.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn (Sue) Sheldon; son, William Sheldon; daughters, Stacey and Thierry Beaud and Amy Sheldon, Pam and children Dennis and LeAnn Gay, Larry Gay, Randy Gay, Charles (Ed) and Marianne Gay, Penny Gribi, close nephew and niece, Roy and Carol Wisner; brother, Charles Sheldon; sisters Shirley and Lynn Fowler, Betty and Victor Ford; eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held May 22 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Paster Mark Slocum officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Keith Herbert Shelly
Keith Herbert Shelly, age 85, of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, April 17, 2003 in Dimondale, Keith was born Oct. 16, 1917 the son of Frank H. and Hydia Jane (Cooper) Shelly. After graduating from Grass Lake High School, Class of 1936, he went on to graduate from Wayne State College of Mortuary Science Class of 1941. Keith retired from the Shelly Funeral Home, which he and his wife owned and operated from 1968 until 1988. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids, Kiwanis Club, receiving the Hixon Fellow Award in 2000, a 60 year member of the Michigan Funeral Directors Association and was a member of the Eaton Rapids Masonic Lodge #63 and the Royal Arch Mason #100. Mr. Shelly was a former Chairman of the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital Board of Directors, Chairman of the M-99 Improvement Project, the first Island Improvement Committee and former board member of Jarvis Acres. He chaired the Kiwanis Special Olympics Committee for several years and he was a former member of the First United Methodist Church Building Committee.
Keith was preceded in death by his twin brother, Kenneth and granddaughter, Cathie VanDenBerg. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Doris M. (Wardwell); children, Drs. Robert (Ann) Shelly of Athens, OH, Phillip (Chris) Shelly of Wayne, Linda (Curt) VanDenBerg of Eaton Rapids; grandchildren, Lisa (Charley) Sims of PA, Rev. Marshall “Mark” (Laura) Shelly of NJ, Elizabeth Shelly of NC, Lynn Shelly of Wayne, Curt (Sally) VanDenBerg, Jr. of East Lansing; great grandchildren, Haley and Hannah Sims, Whitney and Casey VanDenBerg; sister, Ruth Botimer of AZ; sister-in-law, Margaret Shelly of FL, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2003 at the United Methodist Church, Eaton Rapids. Interment followed at the Grass Lake Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center, The First United Methodist Church or Heartland Hospice in memory of Keith H. Shelly. Mary Jo Shisler
Mary Jo Shisler, age 92, of Eaton Rapids, formerly of South Bend, died Monday, April 7, 2003 in Eaton Rapids, MI. Mary Jo was born February 7, 1911 in South Bend, the daughter of Severin and Anna (Stasinski) Lewinski. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in South Bend and attended St. Peter Church in Eaton Rapids. Mrs. Shisler retired from Versals Wheel Chair Factory in South Bend. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Browning; second husband, Milton Shisler; son-in-law, John Dutrieux and granddaughter, Nancy Dutrieux.
Surviving are her daughter, Joyce (John) Dutrieux-Magner of Eaton Rapids; 4 granddaughters, Mary (Matthew) Whybra of Lansing, Michelle (Vasili) Russis of Lake Zurchi, IL, Lori (John) Manning of Fishers, IN, Patrice (Scott) Finch of Scott AFB, IL; 5 great-grandchildren, Meghan and Morgan Whybra, Nicholas Russis, Vincent Manning, Trenton & Julia Finch.
Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, April 12, 2003, at St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka, with Fr. Robert Yeast as celebrant. Interment followed at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. Those desiring may make contributions to Heartland Hospice, 700 W. Ash, Mason, MI 48854 in memory of Mary Jo Shisler. Arrangements by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Beulah A. Shook
Beulah A. Shook, 80, of Montrose, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003 at her residence.
Mrs. Shook was born Jan. 2, 1923 in Montrose, the daughter of the late Nelson and Eliza (Hoskins) Cooper. She married Carl Shook Aug. 17, 1939; he preceded her in death April 29, 1984. Mrs. Shook resided in Charlotte from 1965 to 1990 before moving back to her hometown of Montrose. She was formerly employed at Minor Walton Bean Co. for 12 years, Shook Bros. Mill Wright Co. for 10 years, and Lintz Mobile Homes. She was a current employee of Dr. Larry Alton and the Montrose After Hours Clinic.
Surviving are 11 children, Carl (Barbara) Shook of Montrose, Kathryn Woodward of Columbiaville, Bruce (Nancy) Shook of Monatrose, Carlene (Al) Crowley of Harbor Beach, Beulah (Larry) Eggleston of Astoria, Ore., Erma Pottruff of Arvada, Colo., Dale Shook of Flint, Glenn (Mary) Shook of Charlotte, Darryl (Betty) Shook of Vermontville, Linda Hughes of Brush, Colo., and Marlene (Mark) Yzaguirre of Arvada, Colo.; 39 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren; and sister, Donna (Homer) Vette of Montrose. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael; son-in-law, Orrin; three brothers, one sister, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Feb. 14 at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Montrose, with Rev. Richard Phillips officiating. Interment was at Montrose Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Cenesys Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
Gloria Siefert
Gloris Siefert, 77, of Olivet, died March 31, 2003 at her residence.
Mrs. Siefert was born March 17, 1926 in Eaton County, the daughter of Ray and Jennovee (Williams) Powers. She especially enjoyed her grandkids, playing card and bingo.
She is survived by sons, Tom (Vicki) Siefert of Jackson and Terry (Susan) Siefert of Springport; daughters, Barbara (David) Reynolds of Olivet, Darlene (Randy) Moore of Albion, and Roxanne (Denny) Hayes of Olivet; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Wayne Powers of Olivet and Lansing Powers of Marshall; and sisters, Bethel Kaiser of Arizona, Martha Proteau and Christina Richardson, both of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Siefert in 1976; son Patrick in 1992, and siblings Betty Lou, Goldie, Melvin and Jacob.
Funeral services were held April 6 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Duane Rayston officiating. Interment was at Clarence Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or Huron Valley Ambulance in Albion. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Clara May Simpson
Clara May Simpson, age 92 of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, January 10, 2003 at the Sparrow-St. Lawrence Health Care Center in Dimondale. She was born May 17, 1910 in Clarksville, Michigan, the youngest of four children born to Jacob and Emma (Wrung) Woods. Clara began working for the Eaton Rapids National Bank, she later began working as a bookkeeper for her husband’s business at the City Service Gas Station in Eaton Rapids, and later worked at the V.F.W. National Home in Eaton Rapids for 15 years. A member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lansing and a former Gray Lady at the Eaton Rapids Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph on October 3, 1988; son, David on April 15, 1990; sister, Viva and brothers, Bob and Clarence.
Surviving are a son, Paul (Judy) Simpson of Eaton Rapids; daughter, Jane (Joseph) Scaravilli of Sand Lake, Michigan; 6 grandchildren, Gary (Cynthia) Cox, Randy (Lori) Cox, Kathy (Roger) Anderson, Joan (Shaun) Reiser, Renau (Todd) Davidson and Tom (Erin) Simpson; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Saturday, January 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Pastor Charles Davisson of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Lansing, officiating. Burial will be later in the year at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center in memory of Clara May Simpson.
Else A. Sleater
Else A. Sleater, wife of Richrd Murray Sleater, mother of Raymond, Jacqueline (Sharp) and Kimberly (Gonzalez), grandmother of Taylor, Connor, Ryan and Benjamin, entered into eternal life Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003. She is also survived by her sister Christa Rieger and nephews Max and Daniel, and niece Claudia.
Else was born May Day 1931 and grew up in the Bavarian Alps in Germany. She moved to the United States in 1953 to begin a family. She kept family traditions alive for her children and grandchildren and brought love, joy and laughter to her family and friends. She loved gardening, cooking, baking, reading, and especially loved her family and German heritage. She had many friends through Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, and her volunteer work, particularly with the American Red Cross and her work in customer service at Michigan National Bank in Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Murray Sleater in 1995, and brother Franz Rieger.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.

David P. Sloan
David Paul Sloan, 44, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003 in Charlotte.
David was born Sept. 26, 1958 in Albion, the son of Eugene and Sarah (Chamberlain) Sloan. He married Colleen Tirrell, Sept. 14, 1985 in Charlotte and was an avid outdoordsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and golf. He had worked for Lansing Board of Water and Light.
Surviving are his wife, Colleen; two children, Christopher and Anna; two sisters, Diane (Doug) Bradley of Springport and Laurie (Tim) Hamisfar of Jackson; brother, Tim (Shelly) of Albion; half-brother, Don Sloan of Dorr; half sister, Barb Sloan of Hastings; and grandmother, Roberta Brown of Spring Arbor.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating.
Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund for the children or the charity of one’s choice.
