Madlyne B. VanLoo
Madlyne B. VanLoo, age 69, of Onondaga, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003 in Albion. Madlyne was born August 28, 1934 in Texas Corners, MI the daughter of Frank Earl and Irene Velva (Bronson) Crawford. She retired from Linn Industries in Rives Junction and loved cats and dogs.
Surviving are her son, Robert (Mary) VanLoo of Kalamazoo; 3 grandchildren, Christina VanLoo, Glenn Antisdel, Gary Antisdel; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were 7 brothers and sisters; Earl, Agnes, Frank, Clarence, Richard and Wesley Crawford and Gracie Campbell.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2003, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. William Muller, pastor of the Onondaga Community Church officiating. Graveside services followed at Hope Cemetery in Texas Twp., Kalamazoo Co. Those desiring may make contributions to the Onondaga Community Church Building Fund in memory of Madlyne VanLoo.
Ward J. Vedder
Ward J. Vedder, of Mulliken, died Wednesday evening, April 23, 2003 in his Roxand Township home, where he was born 75 years ago on Feb. 16, 1928.
Mr. Vedder was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army during the occupation of Japan, and was a former Fisher Body employee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lula (Winters) Vedder; and three brothers and three sisters, Lyle Vedder, Ella Vedder, Eva Smith, Harding Vedder, Lois Vedder and Vera Viele.
Surviving are three sisters, Letha Bentley, Doris (William) Feasal and Velma (John) Marsh, all of Mulliken; one brother, Keith (Roberta) Vedder of Charlotte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held April 26 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home in Mulliken, with Pastor Don Woolum of Mulliken United Methodist Church officiating. Justin Vedder played taps at Meadowbrook Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gale Bentley, Bill Feasal, Joe Marsh, Bryant Vedder, Dwayne Vedder, Marty Vedder, Rodney Vedder and Kendall Viele.
Robert Lee Verhelle
Robert “Bob” Lee Verhelle, age 64 of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, January 6, 2003 in Charlotte, following a long illness. He was born January 2, 1939 in Charlotte, the son of Albert and Mary (Van DeMoortel) Verhelle. Mr. Verhelle was a retired truckdriver, working through the years, for several different companies. He enjoyed reading and bird watching. Preceding him in death were daughter, Theresa Verhelle and mother, Mary Verhelle.
Surviving are 5 children, Brenda Hewitt of Charlotte, Pamala (Billy) Jarvis of Oklahoma, Robert (Alison) Verhelle of Lansing, Anna (Ruby) Spear of Lansing and Mary Lou Verhelle of Lansing; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild; father, Albert Verhelle of Eaton Rapids; brother, Richard (Lois) Verhelle of Eaton Rapids; sister, Margaret (Roger) Creighton of Charlotte; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 9, 2003 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in rural Eaton Rapids.
Leo Verlinde
Leo Verlinde, 88, of Middleville, formerly of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at Pennock Hospital in Hastings.
Mr. Verlinde was born June 29, 1914 in Rock Island, Ill., the son of Steven and Mary (Roose) Verlinde. He was raised in Dimondale and attended Dimondale High School, graduating in 1932. He was married to Beth Springham on July 26, 1940 in Charloote. Mr. Verlinde was employed at Fowler Chevrolet – Oldsmobile in Charlotte until buying is own dealership in 1956 in Middleville. He owned the Verlinde Chevrolet and Buick dealership in Middleville until 1982, and was past president of the Michigan Automobile Dealer’s Association and on the board if directors of the Automotive Hall of Fame at Norwood University in Midland. Mr. Verlinde was a member of Junior Chamber of Commerce and St. Vincent de Paul at St. Mary’s Parish in Charlotte, and was a city councilman and fire chief. In Middleville he belonged to the Rotary Club (A Paul Harris Fellow), and in Hastings he belonged to the Knights of Columbus and Elks Club. Mr. Verlinde was an avid outdoorsman, loving to fish and hunt, and spent many years going to his cabin in the Upper Peninsula.
He is survived by his wife, Beth Verlinde; three daughters, Mary (John) Heilner of Princeton, N.J., Ruth Verlinde of Kalamazoo and Nancy Verlinde of Middleville; one son, James (Sue) Verlinde of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren, James (Traci) Verlinde, Mark (Vonnie) Verlinde, Brian (Mara) Verlinde, Daniel Verlinde, Geoffrey (Jennifer) White, Dr. Natalie White, Alexander Heilner, Justine Heilner and Marie Verlinde; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice Verlinde and Albert Verlinde; and a sister, Elsie DeLaere.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 28 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Hastings, with Fr. Alfred Russell as celebrant. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Knights of Columbus or the Elks Club, both of Hastings. Arrangements were by Beeler Funeral Home in Middleville.
Jennings Bryan “JB” Wade
Jennings Bryan “JB” Wade, age 76, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, June 13, 2003 in Lansing. JB was born May 29, 1927 in Ray Co., TN, the son of George Washington and Cordia (Neal) Wade. He attended Robbins United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids. JB was a retired mail carrier with the US Postal Service and co-owner of Waverly Hills Farms. He was preceded in death by his son, Tim and brother, Max.
Surviving are his wife, Donna J. of Eaton Rapids; 5 children, Juanita (William) Kline of AZ, Bryan (Cindy) Wade of Holt, Linda (Kip) Williams of Charlotte, Michael (Imelda) Wade of Madison, WI, Tina Wade of Grand Rapids; 3 step children, Sheri (Carl) Johnson of Clakrston, Glenn Wilcox, Robin Wilcox both of Eaton Rapids; 8 grandchildren, William Van Douser, Tim, Alison and Michelle Wade, Greg & Joshua Wilcox, Nicole and Rachael Wilcox; 1 great grandson, Kaleb Wilcox; brother, Donald (Deanna) Wade of FL; 5 sisters, Mary Vincent & Bernice Everett both of TN, Alma Dunn, Elsie (Dan) Gould, Imogene (Joe) dube all of GA.; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 16, 2003, 2:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Jeff Nunham officiating. Interment followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Lansing. Casket bearers were Bryan Wade, Mike Wade, Tim Wade, Glenn Wilcox, Kip Williams, Bill Kline and Randy Kukla. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of JB Wade.
Barbara A. Ward
Barbara A. Ward, age 90, of Potterville, formerly of Sanford, Fla., passed away Sept. 23, 2003 at Eaton Community Hospice House in Charlotte, with the niece Linda at her side.
Barbara was born Sept. 10, 1913 in Vermontville, the daughter of Lynn and Mary (Arntz) Mosier. She enjoyed activities in the Extension Club, Senior Citizens Club and her church in Sanford, Fla., where she resided for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Willard Ward in 1983, and by her brother, Louis Mosier in 2001.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, June 5, 2004 at Gresham Cemetery in Chester Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice House of Charlotte. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Frederick C. Warfield
Frederick C. Warfield, age 51 of Eaton Rapids, passed away with family at his bedside on January 26, 2003 in Lansing. Fred was born on April 28, 1951 in Mason, MI, the son of Frederick Gerald and Jacqueline Phyllis (Hogle) Warfield. He was a former meat cutter at the 1910 Meat Company in Lansing. Preceded in death by his father, Tiny Warfield, Fred was a loving father, son, brother and companion.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Rachel (Jose) Cruz of Holt, Sarah Warfield and Kelly Warfield, both of Dimondale; mother, Jacqueline Warfield of Eaton Rapids; loving companion, Linda Bradley of Lansing; 2 brothers, Jerry (Besty) Warfield of Lansing, David (Sue) Warfield of Eaton Rapdis; 4 sisters, Brenda (Jose) Narezo of Eaton Rapids, Sonia Smith of Eaton Rapids, Terrie (Roy) Prior of Eaton Rapids, Renee (Mike) Kirwin of Eaton Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2003 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 28, from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, January 29, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
Ben W. Watson
Ben W. Watson, age 28, of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, May 5, 2003 in Canada after being in a truck accident. He was born May 19, 1974 in Charlotte.
Ben graduated from Charlotte High School, class of 1993, and was employed with Avery Leasing in Marshall. He loved fishing, football and NASCAR.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Bob and Agnes Watson, Lester and Wanda McClure; and a sister, Tina Watson.
He is survived by his wife of seven years, Kimberly (Wellman) Watson of Eaton Rapids; one daughter, Jamie, and one son, Douglas, both of Eaton Rapids; father, Thomas (Kris) Watson of Charlotte; mother, Diane (Tim) Maynard of Charlotte; father and mother-in-law, Burleigh and Marilyn Wellman Jr.; sister, Angie (Jeff) Locke of Charlotte; three nieces and three nephews.
Funeral services were held May 9 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
