Anna O. Whitten
Anna O. Whitten, 86, of Godfrey, Ill., passed away Friday, Jan. 31, 2003 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehab Center.
Mrs. Whitten was born June 19, 1916 in Pike County, Ill., to the late Lawrence and Verna (Heavner) Grover. She married Harry Whitten June 3, 1938 in St. Charles, MO., and he passed away in 1990. A homemaker, she will be remembered for her lover of reading and sewing, and the joy she had spending time with her great-granddaughter and her cat, “Muffy.”
She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Schoolover (special friend, Robert Robson) of Lebanaon, Mo.; granddaughter, Sheila (Mark) Thompson of Godfrey, Ill.; great-granddaughter, Ashley Thompson of Godfrey, Ill., three sisters, Jeanne Federle of Elsah, Ill., Virginia Seagraves of Elsah, Ill., Verna May Whitten of Bowling Green, Mo.; and nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin, Nolan, Marion and Raymond Grover; and two sisters, Alta Henry and Sylvia Smith.
Funeral services were held Feb. 3 at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey, Ill, with Rev. Jerry Mecaskey officiating. Interment was at Elsah Cemetery in Elsah, Ill.
Memorial contributions may be made to her great-granddaughter for her school, Evangelical Elementary School Building Fund.
Helen O. Widger
Helen O. Widger, age 95, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, August 15, 2003 in Charlotte. Helen was born November 12, 1907 in Eaton Rapids, the daughter of Frank and Anna (McManamon) Widger. She was a commercial artist and retired from Hudson Dept. Store Co. in 1970 after 37 years of service in the Detroit store. Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids. She was preceded in death by her sister, Norma Widger.
Helen is survived by a dear friend, Robert Porter of Whitmore Lake and 2nd cousin, James (Ruth) Monroe of Lansing.
Funeral services will be held, Wednesday, August 20, 2003 1:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. Those desiring may makde memorial contributions to the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church in memory of Helen Widger.
Arlo Williams, Sr.
Arlo Clare Williams, Sr., 76, of Barryton, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, April 3. Arlo was born May 15, 1926, in Bellevue, the son of Wayne and Martha (Wight) Williams.
He served in the Navy for 15 years; 12 of those years as a Seabee. Upon honorable discharge he earned and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Fleet Marine Force Combat Operations Insignia. In 1987 he retired from the Eaton County Road Commission after 27 years of fulfilling his love in operating heavy machinery, and one experience involving a cow and a bulldozer.
Arlo was preceded in death by sons Steven and Wesley and is survived by his brother Allen (Ann) Williams of Arizona, children Arlo Williams, Jr. of Coldwater, Linda (Ron) Mudwilder of Kent, Washington, Glenn (Donna) Williams of Charlotte, 10 grandchildren including special grand-daughter Michaelia (Andy) Papranec of Eaton Rapids and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2003 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment with military honors will be at 2:30 p.m. at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Big Rapids Hospice.

Donald C. Willis
Donald C. Willis, age 72, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, September 12, 2003 in Eaton Rapids. Don was born June 23, 1931 in Midland, the son of John Mark and Orpha Mae (Cassidy) Willis. He farmed and retired from Davis Construction Co. in 2003. Don loved his dogs and polka music.
Preceded in death by his son, Ricky in 2002 and his grandson, Lucas Fears, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Diane (Foor), 3 daughters, Vickie (Bill) Fears of Eaton Rapids, Rebecca (Eric) Olger of Potterville, Sandra Willis of Eaton Rapids, 6 grandchildren, Richard (Jennifer) Willis, Kelly (Elaine) Fears, Brad (Genny) Fears, Ginny Fears, Katrina Olger, Emmalee Morelock; 4 great grandchildren, Walker & Amber Willis, Hunter and Austynn Fears; 2 sisters, Elaine Young of Gladwin, MI and Linda Beck of Ewen, MI.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, 518 S. Main, Eaton Rapids, MI. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. There will be a time to visit with the family on Monday and Tuesday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Donald Willis.
Richard Phillip Wilson
Richard P. “Whitey” Wilson, age 67 of Onondaga, died Friday, July 25, 2003 at a Lansing hospital. He was born August 9, 1935 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Clifford and Doris (Schweinfurth) Wilson. Mr. Wilson was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1953. He was a lifetime farmer in the Onondaga community, a former truckdriver for Michigan Packaging Co. and Schafer’s Bakery. Mr. Wilson enjoyed his time at the coffee groups at the Eaton Rapids restaurants, and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing. Preceding him in death was his wife, Bertie; father, Clifford; 2 brothers, Floyd Dean and William Wilson.
Surviving are 4 children, Diane (Larry) Wells of Eaton Rapids, Keith (Cindy) Wilson of Onondaga, Jeff Wilson of Eaton Rapids and Gail (Kirk) Marsh of Eaton Rapids; 8 grandchildren; mother, Doris Wilson of Eaton Rapids; 2 brothers, Robert Wilson and David (Jerri) Wilson all of Eaton Rapids; step-sons, Steve, Bob and Jim Cambric and step-daughter, Linda Cleveland; 9 step-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; and special friend, Sharon Wiltse.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 28th from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Stephen Klink of the Community Christian Church, officiating. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.
Vilita R. Wilson
Vilita Ripley Wilson passed away Feb. 6, 2003 in Elizabethtown, Ky. after a short illness. She was born June 14, 1911 in Eaton County and was a life-long area resident. She was co-valedictorian of Charlotte High School’s class of 1929 and worked for several area businesses until 1945. She was preceded in death by daughter, Joan Wilson Clinton in 1979; and husband, H.J. (Jack) Wilson in 1983. Survivors include daughter and husband, Suzanne Wilson Bush and Thomas Bush of Elizabethtown, Ky.; granddaughter and husband, Marilyn Cointon Boland and Kevin Boland of Plymouth; and granddaughter and family Cynthia Clinton, Douglas Wise, and Lisa Wise of Rochester Hills. Immediate family members also include son-in-law and wife, Wayne and Judy Clinton of Gladwin; sister-in-law, Marietta Ripley of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte is handling arrangements with visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 and funeral services at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.
Buddy H. Windon
Buddy Harris Windon, age 74, of Charlotte, died Monday, June 9, 2003 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Buddy was born June 1, 1929 in West Milford, W.Va., the son of John and Nellie Windham) Windon and had been a Charlotte resident since 1987. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a member of the Vermontville American Legion and attended the Gresham United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Mary (John) Gearhart of Charlotte; twin granddaughters, Tammy Elizabeth (C.J.) Malhigh and Samantha Rose Gearhart, both of Charlotte; his beloved, Phyllis of Hastings; and one sister, Margarite Harvey of Barberton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernesteen (Holcomb) Windon on March 11, 1997; son, Douglas Windon in 1960; brother, Steward Windon in 2003; and sisters, Isabelle Morgan and Wynonna Taylor.
Funeral services were held June 12 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment was at Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek.

Stuart E. Windon
Stuart Eugene Windon, 65, of Bellevue, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2003.
Mr. Windon was born July 1, 1937 in West Millford, W.Va., the son of John and Nellie (Windham) Windon. He was a security officer for Burns International.
He is survived by daughters, Penny Burt and Sharl (Steve) Aston of Bellevue; grandchildren, David (Cynthia) Pritchard, Alisha Pritchard and Tommy Potter, Faith and Joe Barrette, Megan Aston, Corrina (Caleb) Westfall; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Brady Pritchard, Aaron Potter, Aysa Marie Milbourn, Caleb Richard Westfall and Cameron Joseph Barrette; sisters, Margerite Harvey of Barberton, Ohio, and Wynonna Taylor of Cleveland, Ohio; brother, Buddy Windon of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon (Kilgore) Windon in 2001, and sister Isabelle Morgan.
Funeral services were held Jan. 18 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Donald Francis officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Bellevue.

Doris M. Wolff
Doris Maye Wolff, 68, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003.
Mrs. Wolff was born May 23, 1934 in Sunfield Township, the daughter of Orla and Agnes (Blackmer) Culver. She was an upholsterer for the Charlotte Chair Company, and a member of the United Brethren Church in Charlotte and Sisters of the Grand Army of the Republic in Sunfield.
She is survived by brother, Robert Culver of Lake Odessa; sisters, Lois Johanson of Rogers, Ark. And Polly Black of Charlotte; step-daughter, June E. Brown; aunt, Maxine Backmer of Eaton Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Wolff in 1986.
Funeral services were held March 7 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Mike Arnold officiating. Interment was at Wilcox Cemetery in Maple Grove Township.
