Roger D. Stine
Roger David Stine, 74, of Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba, Canada, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, 2002 at Pinawa Hospital in Pinawa, Manitoba.
Mr. Stine was born Sept. 20, 1927 and grew up on the family farm in Assyria Township. In his early school years he attended Bell School, graduated from Bellevue High School and attended Michigan State University. During his school years, Mr. Stine was active in 4-H and FFA; he was recognized by the FFA as a state farmer. He lettered in all high school sports and started a baseball team in Assyria. In 1958 he moved with his family from Mt. Clemens to Lac due Bonnet, Manitoba, where his wife’s parents had been early settlers. Mr. Stine went into business with his father-in-law, later worked in maintenance for Windigo Resort and retired from the Tanco Mining Corp. in 1992. He built the home in which his children grew up. He was a member of the Lions Club and a charter member of the Lutheran Church of the Cross. He organized and coached youth baseball in Lac du Bonnet, and he enjoyed beekeeping, gardening, carpentry and the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. Mr. Stine’s caring nature, humor and zest for life will be remembered by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Helen; sons, Sid (Karen) and Ed (Andrea); grandchildren, Mark, Jennifer and Daniel; brothers, Gordon (Mary), Wendell (Jean), Arthur (Susan) and their families; and brother-in-law, Don (Frances) Lagsdin and family.
Funeral services were held Feb. 27 at Lutheran Church of the Cross, Lac du Bonnet, with Pastor Ingthor Isfeld officiating. Interment was at Lettonia Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice or sent to Helen Stine, Box 5, Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba R0E1AO, for designation. Arrangements were by Russell Funeral Home Ltd. of Lac du Bonnet in Manitoba, Canada.
Terry L. Stiver
Terry Lee Stiver, 50, of Holt, passed away Monday, Jan. 28, 2002.
Mr. Stiver was born Nov. 3, 1951 in Lansing. He was a life-long resident of the Lansing area, served in the U.S. Army, and was employed as a professional painter.
He is survived by two sons, Seth and Joel Stiver; his former wife and best friend, Sue (Aleshire) Stiver; brother and sisters, Ray (Judy) Stiver of Port Richey Fla., Betty Combs of Lansing, Nancy Hartley of Charlotte, Linda Stiver (John Sciotti) of Tawas City; aunts, Ann Stiver and Jo Willoughby, both of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Barbara Stiver.
Memorial services were held Feb. 2 at the Estes-Leadley Holt/Delhi Chapel, with Pastor Robert Carpenter Jr. officiating.
Margaret Leona Storer
Margaret Leona Storer, age 84 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, January 1, 2002 in Charlotte. Margaret was born October 20, 1917 in Manton, MI, the daughter of Ole C. and Bessie Laura (Holbrook) Swanson. She was employed with Horner Woolen Mills and Heifitz Pickle Co. for many years. Margaret was preceded in death by her daughter Helen Miller.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Barbara (Gail) Lownsbery, Lucille (Ray) Grables both of Eaton Rapids; son, Loren (Jackie) Worden of North Carolina; son-in-law, Tony Miller of Woodland; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 brother, Mel (Audrey) Swanson of Mason.
There will be no services. Arrangements were by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Thelma May Storey
Thelma May Storey, age 74 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at a Lansing hospital. She was born May 29, 1927 in Muskegon, the daughter of Amie and Neva (Wilder) Carrier. Mrs. Storey had worked 28 years for the Eaton Stamping Company in Eaton Rapids and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Preceding her in death were her husband, George, in 1994 and brother, Lloyd and Leo Dawley.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryl (Tom) Hanna of Eaton Rapids; 9 grandchildren, John (Kris) Sanders, Jeff (Yvette) Sanders, Robin (Brian) Macomber, Wendy (Bobby) Schultz, Katie Hanna, Christopher Hanna all of Eaton Rapids, April Hanna of Lansing, Becky (Neil) Hogan of Vermont, Keith Hanna of Indiana and several foster grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Dawley of Traverse City; sisters and brother-in-law, Julia Dawley of Eaton Rapids, Marion Doxon of Mason, Dorothy and Clyde Van Luven of Mason; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 22, 2002 from the First United Methodist Church in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Tom Evans officiating. Burial followed in the Munger Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. The family was served through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to either the Giddeons or the First United Methodist Church in memory of Thelma M. Storey.
Elizabeth A. Story
Elizabeth Aldine Story, 78, of Stella, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center Hospital in Springdale, Ark., after an illness.
Mrs. Story was born Jan. 1, 1924 in Lakeland, Fla., the daughter of Leroy and Agnes (Phillips) Turner. She lived in Stella, Mo., for three years, coming from Florida. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the First Baptist Church in Pineville, Mo., where she taught Sunday school. She was also a square dancer. She married Samuel Story on Jan. 1, 1942; he survives. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
She is also survived by three sons, Bill Phillips of Fort Worth, Texas, Dean Story and Sammy Story, both of Ocala, Fla.; daughter, Nancy Gibson of Waynesville, N.C.; a sister, Virginia Lewis of Boca Raton, Fla.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 8 at the First Baptist Church, Pineville, Mo., with Rev. Frank Crosby officiating. Interment was at Lake Wells Cemetery, Lake Wells, Fla.

Edward W. Strobel
Edward W. Strobel, 77, of Windsor Township, died Wednesday evening, March 13, 2002 at the Dimondale Center following a long illness.
Mr. Strobel was born May 31, 1924 in Windsor Township, a son of Henry and Ida (Stiefel) Strobel. He was a retired farmer, former justice of the peace, and former member of the Grand Paraders.
He is survived by three daughters, Debra Hoover (friend Philip Gapske) of Dimondale, Diane (Gregory) Shaw of Grawn and Tammy (Timothy) Church of Dimondale; stepdaughter, Carol Monroe (friend Mike Alden) of Lansing; stepson, Paul (Debbie) Smith of Mason; seven grandchildren; sister, Irene Leslie of Charlotte; and dear companion, Dorothy Dwyer.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret in 1977.
Services were held March 16 at Field & Leik Funeral Home in Dimondale, with Rev. Dr. Lee Filker and Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Interment was at Dimondale Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Alden, Tim Church, Philip Gapske, Gregory Shaw, Paul Smith, Brian Nesbitt and Jim Sentell.
Jerry E. Strong
Jerry E. Strong, 60, of Olivet, died Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Mr. Strong was born March 5, 1942 in Battle Creek, the son of William and Ardeth (Walter) Strong. He graduated from Olivet High School in 1960, and served with the U.S. Air Force for 23 ˝ years, retiring in 1984 with the rank of master sergeant. After his military career, Mr. Strong was employed by Kellogg Community College for 10 years. He married Joan Coller on Aug. 25, 1981 in England; she survives. He was a life member of the VFW, American Legion Post #298, Moose Lodge and Eagles. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Gary of Carlsbad, N.M.; daughter, Jerilynn Strong of Lubbock, Texas; stepson, Robert Greenfield of Spring, Texas; four grandchildren; and brother, William Strong and sister Rachel Bishop, both of Olivet. Services were held March 15 at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek. Interment was at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice or Paralyzed Vets.
Ronald L. Sullivan Sr.
Ronald Lee Sullivan Sr., 64, of Delton, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002.
Mr. Sullivan was born April 16, 1938 in Ingham County, the son of James and Florence LaVina (Lempr) Sullivan. He was an employee of General Motors Oldsmobile division for many years before retiring in May 1991, and served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by sons, Ronald (Kathy) Sullivan of Dimondale, Robert Sullivan of North Carolina and Richard Monroe of Charlotte; daughter, June (Lou) Esch of Tennessee; six grandchildren; brother, Robert Sullivan of Woodland; and sister, Donna Pickett of Ohio.
A Memorial Affirmation Service was held Oct. 18 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating. Interment was at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Edward J. Suntken
Edward Johannes Suntken, 96, of Olivet, died Monday, July 29, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Suntken was born Sept. 10, 1905 in Mason County, Ill., the son of Johannes and Mary (Eilers) Suntken. He was an avid deer hunter and trapper until his 93rd birthday, and enjoyed many years farming north of Charlotte. Mr. Suntken was also employed at Motor Wheel until his retirement in 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah (Guy) Suntken; sons, Lawrence (Jill) and LaGrand, both of Charlotte, Lavern (Marilyn) of Olivet and Loyal of Brighton; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Shafe of Olivet.
He was preceded in death by brothers, William, George, Paul and Victor.
Funeral services were held Aug. 1 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Scott Brood officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery.
