Shirley Willison
Shirley Ann Willison, 65, of Charlotte died June 24. Mrs. Willison was born July 2, 1936, in Ionia, the daughter of Jesse and Myrtle (Richards) King.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, John “Jack” Willison, son Mike (Judy) Willison of Charlotte, daughters Lori (Tim) Gerard of Lowell, Karen Willison of Charlotte, four grandchildren, Chris, Kevin, John and Kari, brothers Bob King of Grand Rapids and Kenny (Pat) King of Alto.
Funeral services were held June 27 at Nashville Baptist Church with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was in Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township.
If desired, contributions may be made to Nashville Baptist Church or the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Dorothy Irene Williston
Dorothy Irene Williston, age 90 of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, January 13, 2002 in Albion. Dorothy was born September 17, 1911 in Algansee Township, Branch County, Michigan, the daughter of Frank and Gertie (Hall) Stiles. She graduated from South Bend High School, Class of 1930 and on November 29, 1941, married Richard Charles Williston. Dorothy was a former member of the Banfield United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She resided in Jackson from 1962 to 1976, Dowling 1976-1987, Tompkins Center 1987-1991 and Eaton Rapids from 1991-2002. Mrs. Williston retired from State Farm Insurance in 1976 as an Executive Secretary in the Fire Company, after 20 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard in 1987; son, John A. Williston in 1996; sister, Frances Dunn and her brother, Guy Stiles.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Susan (Roger) Bennett of Battle Creek, Sally (Dan) Hawes of Tompkins Center; son, Mike (Anne) Williston of Eaton Rapids; daughter-in-law, Joann Williston of Battle Creek; 11 grandchildren, Brandie (Oliver) Holmes, John Brian (Becky) Williston, Heather (David) Martin, Heidi (Tim) Jackson, Jenny (Rick) Wolverton, Jacob (Jamie) Hawes, Robert, Katherine, Daniel, Kelsey and Zachary Williston; 8 great-grandchildren, Jessica, Ashley, Brandon, Joseph and Kasey Holmes, Valen and Charlye Hawes, Kaitlynn Gibson; 2 sisters, Laura Cooper of Coldwater, Betty (Jim) Blair of Quincy and sister-in-law, Edlah Stiles of Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Jack Fugate officiating. Interment will follow at Pope Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 2-4 & 6-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to Pope United Methodist Church in memory of Dorothy Williston.
Douglas A. Wolfe
Douglas A. Wolfe, 42, of Nashville, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at his home after a one-year battle with colon cancer.
Mr. Wolfe was born July 2, 1959 in Clarion, Pa., the son of William and Ruby (Wensel) Wolfe, and attended Maple Valley Schools. He married Chris Parks March 21, 1982 and the two were married until 1996. Mr. Wolfe was employed at Great Lakes Fluid Power for 18 years. He was an expert trouble-shooting technician, doing work for many local companies including Bradford White, Cascade Engineering and American Bumper. His skills often called him to travel, trouble-shooting for companies from Kentucky to Detroit. His love for music was well-known. He enjoyed collecting CDs with a variety of styles form gospel to new alternative rock. Mr. Wolfe enjoyed flying with his good fiend, Dan Moody. He was known for his great sense of humor, which he maintained throughout his illness.
He is survived by daughter Erin Wolfe and son Michael Wolfe, both of Nashville; parents, Bill and Marlene Wolfe of Hastings; brother, Steve (Charlene) Wolfe of Wilson, N.C.; sisters, Chris Wolfe (Phil Parker) of Sarasota, Fla. and Wendy (Rusty) Blakely of Nashville; one niece and three nephews.
Services were held June 5 at Maple Valley Chapel in Nashville, with Pastor Deno Lamphere officiating. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville

Lee W. Wonser
Lee W. Wonser, 83, of Mulliken, died Sunday morning, July 28, 2002 in the home of his birth, following a long illness.
Mr. Wonser was born June 5, 1919 in Roxand Township, the youngest son of Ernest and Susie (Sackett) Wonser. He graduated from Sunfield High School in 1937 and was a life-long Roxand Township farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie, daughter Hope Wonser, son Michael (Linda) Wonser, and granddaughter LeeAnne Wonser, all of Mulliken; sister, Ruth McCormick of Frankenmuth; and brother-in-law, Lyle Bosworth of Florida.
Services were held July 31 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home in Mulliken; with Rev. Robert Betts officiating. Interment was at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Mulliken. Pallbearers were Kevin Cow, Gary Fetzer, Patrick O’Toole, Bradley Stover, Ralph Eugene Stover and Lester Woodbury.
John B. Wood
John Benjamin Wood, 76, of Grand Ledge, died Thursday, March 28, 2002.
Mr. Wood was born Feb. 22, 1926 in Edmore, the son of Jesse and Nettie May (Peterson) Wood.
He is survived by daughters, Annette (Robert) Doner and Marie (Guy) Reynolds; sons, John Wood Jr. (Cristine) and Michael Wood; seven grandchildren and four great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice (Jacobs) in 1994; son, Melvin Jesse in 2001; and great-grandson, David Hill-Dupree in 1992.
Funeral services were held April 1 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Bob Doner officiating. Interment was at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta.
Lewis Burr Wood
Lewis Burr Wood, age 84 of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, October 6, 2002, at his residence. Lewis was born June 22, 1918 in Grass Lake, the son of Burr Lewis and Ruth (Gamble) Wood. Louie was self-employed for 20 years and enjoyed working with wood. He was preceded in death by his brother, Leon Wood and his sister, Phyllis Richardson.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Athol May (Bodell) Wood, of Eaton Rapids; 7 sons, Burr (Linda) Wood of Potterville, Daniel (Connie) Wood, Leon (Mary) Wood, Robin (Mary) Wood, Bruce (Marsha) Wood, Loren Wood, Eric (Gwen) Wood all of Eaton Rapids; 3 daughters, Sandra (Allen) Conklin, Renee (Kevin) Kole both of Eaton Rapids and Rebecca (Bruce) Zgoda of Commerce Township; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; 5 sisters, Neveda Jones, Oral Pruden, Felinece Miller, Joanne Jones and Genevieve Eno; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial will follow in the Brickyard Cemetery in Eaton Rapids Township. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to the Ingham Hospice at 825 E. Yvonne M. Wood
Yvonne “Bonnie” M. Wood, 69, of Nashville, passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 19, 2002 at Pennock Hospital in Hastings.
Mrs. Wood was born Jan. 31, 1933 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Clair and Laura (Black) French. She grew up in Bellevue, attended Bellevue schools, and married Thomas P. Wood Jr. on March 5, 1949 in Battle Creek. Mrs. Wood was known for her ballroom dancing, and loved growing flowers, particularly Hibiscus bushes, Stella D’ora and Amaryllis.
She is survived by her husband; Thomas P. Wood Jr.; mother, Laura French of Bellevue; four children, Dawn (Billy Wellman) Haight and Thomas (Debbie Brauer) Wood III, both of Nashville, Wendy (Bob) Bassett of Hastings and Dennis (Mary-Jo) Wood of Battle Creek; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; sisters, Arlene (Ken) Thompson of Orange Park, Fla. and Carol (Ed) Whiting of Battle Creek; and brothers, Clair “Jack” (Bertha) French of Pierson, Keith (Barb) French and Gaylen “Gay” (Melba) French, both of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by daughter and son-in-law, Loree and John Childers; and her father, Clair French.
Funeral services were held Dec. 23 at Maple Valley Chapel in Nashville, with Rev. Susan Trowbridge officiating. Interment was at Wilcox Cemetery in Maple Grove Township. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Wayne F. Woodbury
Wayne F. Woodbury, 58, of Delta Junction, Alaska, died Sunday, March 10, 2002. Mr. Woodbury was born Oct. 23, 1943 in Marion. He started flying at age 15, had a pilot’s license at 16 and his own airplane at 19. After graduating from high school in Vermontville, he joined the Air National Guard and earned his link instructor’s certificate. In 1965 Mr. Woodbury transferred to the U.S. Army Warrant Officer Helicopter Program, later serving in Vietnam. After being stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, in 1967, he fell in love with Alaska and decided to make Fairbanks his home. He flew for the Bureau of Land Management and Frontier Flying Service, meeting a lot of people and making a lot of friends. He owned and operated his own air service out of McCarthy, Alaska, for several years. In 1983 Mr. Woodbury moved to Delta Junction, Alaska, to enjoy the remoteness and mountains. He was most recently employed with Guardian Security as a security guard. He was a long-time member of the NRA and AOPA. He is survived by his wife, Mary Woodbury of Delta Junction, Alaska; daughters, Michelle (Bryce) Covington and Terral Woodbury, both of Simpsonville, S.C.; son Kenneth Woodbury of Waterloo, S.C.; brothers, Lester of Vermontville and Boyd of Potterville; and sister, Phyllis Smith of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents, Oswell and Verna Woodbury. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 19 at 2 p.m. at Nashville Baptist Church in Nashville. Interment was at Delta Junction, Alaska. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodbury family or to: American Heart Association, 1057 W. Fireweed Lane #100, Anchorage, AK 99503. Arrangements were by Fairbanks Funeral Home in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Doris Helen Woods
Doris Helen (Doty) Woods, age 86, of Eaton Rapids, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2002. Doris was born in Good Hart, Michigan on April 10, 1916 to Vern and Marian (Blackman) Doty. She grew up in the Good Hart/Harbor Springs area until her family moved to Eaton Rapids. She worked and dedicated many years to the V.F.W. National Home in Eaton Rapids. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids, the B.P.W. organization and the O.E.S. Lodge #241 of Eaton Rapids. Preceding her in death were her husband Clarence Woods in 1981 and her sisters Isabel Corbin and Dorothy Zumbaugh.
Surviving are her son, Charles (Beverly) Woods and daughter Suzanne Hokanson; 3 grandchildren. Scott (Rachel) Owens, Kimberly (Keith) Brown and Travis (Marianne) Hokanson; 6 great-grandchildren, Blade, Ezra, Hunter, Jesse, Josh and Lennon.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Dr. David D’Arcy officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 12 noon and from 6-8 p.m. For those desiring, memorial gifts may be made to either the American Cancer Society or the V.F.W. National Home in memory of Doris H. Woods.
