Ronnie L. Baldwin
Ronnie Lynn Baldwin, 47, of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, June 3, 2002.
Mr. Baldwin was born July 4, 1954 in Carson City, the son of Kerry Baldwin and Janis Griswold.
He is survived by his wife, Yon Hwa (Choe) Baldwin; son, Jimmy Baldwin (Jenny Moening) of East Lansing; three grandchildren, Japhett, Jaden and Jolie; father, Kerry (Cleo) Baldwin of Crystal; mother, Janis (Tom) Baldwin of Riverdale; sisters, Linda Kramer of Portland and Karen (Michael) Odenwald of Fenwick; one niece, two nephews, one great-niece, two aunts, one uncle, one great-aunt, and several step-sisters and step-brothers.
Funeral services were held June 8 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Tom Peters officiating.
Frieda Barker
Frieda Barker, 90, passed away Friday, Dec. 6, 2002.
She was born Sept. 28, 1912 in Windsor Township, the youngest of five children born to George W. and Viola Oblinger Sauntmon. She graduated from Dimondale High school in 1929 and retired from the Michigan Secretary of State Licensing Dept. She had resided for two and a half years at New Haven Foster Care Home in Dimondale. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Judith C. Bemis; and three husbands, James E. Smith Sr., Paul DeClercq and Lauren J. Barker.
She is survived by one son, James (Doris) Smith Jr.; three step-son, Robert (Fran) DeClercq, Tom (Mary) Barker and Scott (Shirley) Barker; two step-daughters, JoAnn (Bob) Allman and Julie (Ed) Wood; one granddaughter, Patricia (David) Pendarvis; five grandsons, Michael (Deb) Smith, Jeffrey (Brenda) Melton, Todd Melton, Kevin Melton and Dan Melton; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Dec. 9 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Robert Palmer officiating. Interment followed at Dimondale Cemetery.
Viola E. Barnard
Viola E. Barnard, 63, passed away March 5, 2002.
Mrs. Barnard was born Jan. 12, 1939 in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Herman and Ruth (Donner) Weir. She enjoyed being outside, music and watching basketball.
She is survived by her husband, Darwin Barnard; daughter, Darlene Austin; two sons, Edward Barnard and Darwin Jay Barnard; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Lillian Burton; one niece and three nephews.
Funeral services were held March 8 at Five Corners Church, with Pastor Marten Saunders and Rev. Curtis Napier officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Five Corners Church; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Bert Barnhart
Bert L. Barnhart, 89, of Olivet died June 25 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born in Chicago, Ill. Oct. 23, 1912, was raised by Elizabeth Shook and lived in the Olivet area all his life.
He was a welder by trade and had worked for the Oliver Corp. until it closed. He then worked for the Calhoun County Road Commission until his retirement in October of 1977. He spent some time traveling in the west with a rodeo, loved boxing and trained young fellows for the Golden Gloves. His life was filled with hard work and love for his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He liked country music and rodeos on TV as well as boxing. His marriage of 63 years was filled with love and compassion.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Frederick Shook.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma (Goodrich) Barnhart to whom he was married on Jan. 7, 1939 in Albion, Ind.; two daughters, Lorain Sue Trudell of Hastings and Sally (Stan) Jeffrey of Olivet; four grandsons, one granddaughter, 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Arthur (Joanne) Shook and sister, Naida (Dale) Doty.
Funeral services were held June 28 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel in Charlotte with the Pastor Winford Collins officiating.
Memorial contributions may go to the Lee Center Church or Lifespan-Good Samaritan Hospice.
Rande Barrett
Rande Thomas Barrett, 48, of Charlotte died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 15, 2002. Mr. Barrett was born Aug. 5, 1953 in Charlotte, the son of Jack and Phyllis (Heinze) Barrett.
He worked as a mechanic at Spartan Motors in Charlotte. He is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Mindy Barrett of Kentucky, sons Michael and Joey Barrett of Kentucky, stepdaughters Lisa Simmons of Eaton Rapids, Heather Simmons of Lansing, mother Phyllis Barrett of Charlotte, four grandchildren, McKenzie, Brendon, Jordaine, and Maxwell, sister Ronda (Robby) Rosenbrook of Charlotte, niece Kristi (Roy) Kunkel, and nephew Ben (Jeannine) Morris.
He was preceded in death by his father Jack in 1988 and brother Ron in 1972.
Funeral services were Saturday, May 18 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Hayes-Green Beach Hospital or to the Barrett children’s college funds.
Howard P. Battin
Howard Paul Battin, 51, of Charlotte, died Friday, April 5, 2002.
Mr. Battin was born Sept. 9, 1950 in Mason, the son of Earl D.C. and Louise Battin. He was a die maker for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 2001. He enjoyed his Harley Davidson motorcycles for many years, as well as golf and classic cars.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie; son, Marcus (Leslee) of Lansing; daughters, Heather (Rick) Steinhauser of Indianapolis, Ind., and Tricia Battin of Lansing; grandsons, Bobby, Skyler, Trent, Harley and Dylan; granddaughters, Adeana, Katelyn and Emily; mother, Louise (Bill) Every of Dansville; brothers, Earl (Karen) of Leslie and Gene of Lansing; and sister, Dottie Battin of Bloomsburg, Pa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl; brother, Moe; and sister, Janet.
Family affirmation services were held April 10 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling facilitating.
Floyd Baum
Floyd J. Baum, 72, of Springport passed away on Thursday, Dec. 26. He was a lifelong resident of Springport, born to Gaylord and Arda (Cowles) Baum.
Mr. Baum served over 20 years on the Springport Schools Board of Education, he was a Springport Sports Booster, a charter member of the Geezer’s club of Springport, a Deacon of the First Church of Christ (Christian) of Jackson, on the Jackson County board of Commissioners serving Parma, Sandstone, Springport, and Tompkins Townships, a board member of the Jackson County Farm Bureau, a member of the Jackson County Agriculture Council, District Director of Michigan Milk Producers Association, member of Jackson County Soil Conservation Association and the Michigan Livestock Exchange.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Jan; children Dale (Joanne), Larry (Becky), Rob (Lori), Marsha (Eric) Marshall; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Mindy, Erik, Aaron, Ethan and Garret Marshall, and Lauren and Hanna Baum; two sisters, Loretta (Guy) Lincoln, Carole (Richard) Tymkew; one brother, Garold (Bev) Baum; many nieces and nephews, and mother-in-law, Ruth Christner. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Forest and two sisters, Donna Cooper and Nellie Hindes.
Services for Mr. Baum are Monday, Dec. 30 at 2 p.m. at the Springport High School gymnasium. Pastor Michael Mason and Reverend Robert Doner will be officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of Christ (Christian), Springport Sports Boosters, Springport Academic Boosters or the Springport FFA.
Eva M. Bayes
Eva M. Bayes, age 88 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, October 26, 2002 in Lansing. Eva was born June 26, 1914 in Raeford, NC, the daughter of William Lauchlin and Eva Briety (McFayden) Bethune. She was a member of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church and the Esther Circle. Mrs. Bayes was preceded in death by her husband, Harland in 1993 and her son. Frederick Lynn Bayes in 1964.
Surviving are her 3 sons, Dick (Barbara) Bayes of Charlotte, Allan (Sandy) Bayes of Spring Lake, Ron (Mona) Bayes of Eaton Rapids; 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2002, 2:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Robert Betts officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Casket bearers will be her grandsons, Dave Bayes, Montie Bayes, Tim Bayes, Ron Bayes, Jr., and Andy Bayes. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or Heartland Hospice in memory of Eva Bayes.
