Gary L. Croff Jr.
Gary Lee Croff Jr., 17 of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Vermontville, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 in Charlotte.
Gary, son of Gary Lee Croff Sr. and Peggy Jo Sanders, was born in Hastings on Oct. 27, 1985. He attended and enjoyed Maple Valley schools. His hobbies included jet skiing, wrestling, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his father, Gary (Tina) Croff Sr. of Ionia; mother, Peggy (Art) Maurer of Eaton Rapids; sisters, Amber Croff of Vermontville and Elisabeth Lincoln of Nashville; grandparents, Kenneth and Velma Croff of Ionia, Carol Croff and Clifford VanDeusen of Vermontville and Kathryns Munchbach of Charlotte; great-grandmothers, Mary Kerr of Ionia and Ruth Carrier of Vermontville; aunts and uncles, Kenneth (Wilma) Croff of Marshall, Dennis (Janet) Croff of Vermontville, Brian (Julie) Croff of Nashville, Janet (Cal) Riker of Petoskey, Mark (Nora) Sanders, Joe Sanders, CoCo (Bruce) Davis, Tanya Sager (Terry Harper) and Julie (Jimmy) Moonyham, all of Charlotte; and many cousins.
No services were held. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements were by Maple Valley Chapel in Nashville.
Elizabeth C. Crozier
Elizabeth C. Crozier, of Palmetto, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, died Feb. 13, 2002 after many years of care by her husband Lawrence.
Mrs. Crozier was born May 13, 1911 in Eaton County. She was the eldest child of Phillip and Sadie Lula (Shumaker) Wehr. She graduated from Charlotte High School in 1928 and the Lansing Business University. She married Lawrence Crozier, a farmer, on July 28, 1934 at Center Eaton Church. Mrs. Crozier held various bookkeeping positions during her working career. During the 1930s she worked at Wilcox-Gay in Charlotte. After taking 12 years off to raise her family, she returned to the workforce. During the 50s she again worked for a few years at Wilcox-Gay. Mrs. Crozier resided in Eaton County until her retirement from the Labor Department of the State of Michigan. A farm on Packard Highway was her home at 30 years. She was a former member of the First Congregational Church and its Mary-Martha Circle.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years; daughters, Myrna Dehnert of Bradenton, Fla., and Ann Cobb (Preston) Aylesworth of Rockton, Ill.; granddaughters, Brenda (Jerry) Stanton and Janet Gearheart of Bradenton, Fla.; grandsons, Steven (SFC Katrina) Cobb of Fort Huachuca, Ariz., and Andrew (Jeanne) Cobb of San Antonio, Texas; eight great-grandchildren and six great-great –grandchildren; sister, Doris (Cal) Fullerton; brothers, Rolland (Charlotte) Wehr and Maxon (Dorothy) Wehr, all of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sister, Naomi Conard, brother Rex Wehr, son-in-law Douglas Cobb and grandson Bruce Cobb in 1990.
Funeral services were held Feb. 19 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Patricia Stirling officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Susan I. Cupp
Susan I. Cupp, age 51 of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, June 30, 2002 in Eaton Rapids. Sue was born May 8, 1951 in Mt. Clemens. She was a member of the Bonnie View Ladies Golf League, a former member of the Island City Bowling League and a member of the Lansing Bowling Association. Sue had been active in the E.R. Community Theatre and was a para pro with Northwestern Elementary School, working as a learning disabilities aide.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Leroy; 1 daughter, Krystal Cupp of Eaton Rapids; 1 son, Adam Cupp of Eaton Rapids; her father, Robert (Naomi) Wilkinson of Dimondale; mother, Mary Wilkinson of Lansing; 2 brothers, Lon (Sheila) Wilkinson of Grand Ledge and Aaron Ferret of TN; 2 step-sisters, Zetta Zechinato of FL and Martha Mae Babcock of Six Lakes, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Interment will follow at Brickyard Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society in memory of Susan Cupp.
Teddy N. Cutter
Teddy Nelson Cutter, 90, passed away Feb. 26, 2002.
Mr. Cutter was born May 30, 1911. He was a happy, fun-loving person to know and have as a father and grandfather. He worked for Nash Kelvinator, Chore Boy Milkers and the Miller Road Bible Church.
He is survived by son, Gilbert (Evelyn) of Charlotte; daughters, Carolyn Waterbury of Holt and Joyce (Woody) Rooker of Lima, Ohio; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Cutter.
Funeral services were held March 1 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with William Lobsiger officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Lansing.

Erma Dankenbring
Erma Parr Dankenbring, 88, of Grand Ledge, passed away Sept. 9, 2002.
Mrs. Dankenbring was born Dec. 31, 1913 in Benton Township, the youngest child of Charles William Parr and Hattie (Bartholomew) Parr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Charlotte and active in the Fidelis Class and May Murry Circle. Mrs. Dankenbring graduated in the class of 1932 from Charlotte High School, and also Eaton County Normal. In her later years she volunteered for Hayes Green Beach Hospital for 26 years. Most of her life was spent on a farm wit her husband Clair in Oneida Township.
She is survived by her son, David (Joyce) Dankenbring; grandson, Kent; brother, Robert Parr; sister-in-law, Luella Kemp; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Clair in 1985, and her brother Max Parr in 1977.
Funeral services were held Sept. 12 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Robert Church officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Park in Lansing.

Richard K. Darkey
Richard Karl Darkey, 67, of Bellevue, died July 20, 2002 at Battle Creek Health System.
Mr. Darkey was born Sept. 9, 1934 to Karl and Louise (Watts) Darkey in Sisterville, W.Va. He was a graduate of Battle Creek Central High School in the class of 1953, and retired from Kellogg’s after 42 years. Mr. Darkey married Patricia Lapoint in Bellevue on Nov. 23, 1956; she survives. He was very active in the Boy Scouts, receiving an Eagle Scout Badge. He was also a Boy leader for many years in Bellevue and Battle Creek. His troop sponsored paper drives in the area and put out flags in downtown Bellevue on special occasions. Mr. Darkey was a member of the Bellevue Rescue Squad and was in charge of the band booth for many years that raised money for new uniforms. He was a member of the 110th Air National Guard stationed in Battle Creek and an instructor for the first Red Cross clown class in Battle Creek. He sponsored the Memorial Day parade for several years and delivered Meals on Wheels. Mr. Darkey began clowning at the Ann. J. Kellogg and the Doris Klaussen schools for children with special needs. His group, known as the Darkey Clowns, originated Clown Days and also performed at the Kellogg Christmas party put on by the employees. He and his wife Patty received Bellevue Citizens of the year in 1979. Mr. Darkey enjoyed Michigan Battle Cat baseball and Kalamazoo K-Wings hockey.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; children, Richard (Mary) Darkey Jr. of Orland Park, Ill., Linda Kay Darkey of Battle Creek, Gerald (Paula) Darkey of Orlando, Fla., and David Darkey of Bellevue; two granddaughters, Stacy and David Darkey of Orland Park; sister, Louise Walbridge of Gull Lake; and brother, Kermit Darkey of Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by son, Charles Darkey; and brothers, James and Robert Darkey.
Funeral services were held July 23 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery.

Wilma E. Davidson
Wilma E. Davidson, age 88 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, October 1, 2002 in Dimondale. Wilma was born January 31, 1914 in Battle Creek the daughter of Edwin Walter and Stella (Willmarth) Horton. She was a very active member of the Eaton Rapids First Congregational Church, the Eaton Rapids Medical Center Auxiliary and the Eaton Rapids Garden Club. Her interest and hobbies included playing cards, travel, dancing, shopping, cooking, gambling, participating in church and hospital charities and spending time with her family. Wilma spent many winters in Vero Beach, Florida. She was loved by all who knew her. Mrs. Davidson was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Davidson a former partner in Davidson Woolen Mills; 3 brothers, Walter, Herbert and Howard Horton.
Surviving are her 2 sons, William (Francine) Davidson, Phillip (Priscilla) Davidson both of Eaton Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Darcy (Michael) O’Boyle, Debra (James) Edsall, Rachelle (Scott) Wheeler, Nicole Davidson; 5 great-grandchildren, Lindsay Bristol, Nicholas and Joshua Norris, Bradley and Kayl Talboo; great-great granddaughter, Kylie Lewis; 3 sisters-in-law, Helen Davidson, Anne (Alex) Allan both of Eaton Rapids, Janet Horton of Battle Creek and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Dr. David D’Arcy officiating. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center Foundation or the First Congregational Church in memory of Wilma E. Davidson.
James R. Davis
James Russell Davis, 62, of Baraga, died suddenly Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Davis was born Oct. 18, 1939 in Lansing, the son of the late Hallie and Mildred (Dalrymple) Davis. He grew up in Potterville, where he graduated from high school. Mr. Davis worked for Diamond Reo in Lansing for 17 years, and then owned and operated Village Brokers real estate company in Dimondale for several years. He moved to Baraga in 1989, where he enjoyed his retirement years. He married the former Diana Boerema Nov. 17, 2000 in Baraga. Mr. Davis enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Diana of Baraga; three sons, Ronald Davis of Eaton Rapids, Daniel (Janean) Davis of Holt and James Davis of Baraga; four daughters, Denise Wier of Holt, Roxanne (Jim) Pathfinder of Holt, Tracy Davis of Onemia, Minn., and Amy Davis of Baraga; one brother, Donald (Darlene) Davis of Potterville; aunt, Minnie (Jack) Tysman of Lansing; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 8 at Jacobson Funeral Home in L’Anse, with Rev. David Snyder officiating.
