Norma I. Cole
Norma I. Cole, 84, of Charlotte, died Saturday, March 9, 2002.
Mrs. Cole was born Dec. 12, 1917 in Charlotte, the daughter of Earl Paton and Inez (Newton) Paton. She was a former member of OES Chapter 218 of Charlotte, a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and the Bonnie Brook Association.
She is survived by son, Jerry, Vermontville; daughters, Jan (Brad) Jones of Potterville, Jeanne (Rody) Hillary of Grand Rapids and Linda (Bob) Tolles of Hastings; daughter-in-law, Sharon Cole of Delton; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Josie Cole of Grand Rapids and Maxine Cole of Oglesby, Ill.; brother-in-law, Ned Walters of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Wayne C. Cole on March 9, 1994; son, Gary, daughter Jane, grandson Brent, five sisters and two brothers.
Memorial services were held March 13 at Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte, with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the SIREN/Eaton Shelter; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Lucille Colizzi
Lucille Colizzi, age 91, of Charlotte, passed away Friday, Dec. 19, 2002. Mrs. Colizzi was born April 29, 1911, the daughter of Roy and Luella (Lane) Sutton of Narrow Lake.
She graduated from Charlotte High School in 1929, attended Eaton County Normal and Michigan State University, and was a school teacher for several years. Mrs. Colizzi had a tremendous history of volunteer service to the community of Charlotte; involving thousands of hours to her church, local clubs and organizations which includes her role as past president of the General Federation of Women’s Club-Charlotte, from which she received an honorary award in 1997 for 50 years of membership. She was active with the Camp Fire Girls, a member of the first class of Gray Ladies in 1954 (now called Red Cross volunteers) at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, and was honored for over 40 years of service. She was active in the hospital auxiliary: a member and past president of the Mary Martha Circle of First Congregational Church, where she served on several boards and committees, serving as the first chairperson of the Diaconate. Mrs. Colizzi was renowned for her leadership role in the success of the church bazaar. In 1980, she was honored by her fellow church members in recognition of over 40 years of dedication to the bazaar. Her loyalty and devotion to her church, community and friends was highlighted when she was honored in 1986 as the recipient of the Charlotte Rotary Club Community Service Award.
She was preceded in death; by her husband, John Colizzi in 1970; her son, Douglas S. Baum in 1996 and grandson, Daniel Baum in 1988.
Surviving are her grandsons, John (Shona), Michael (Christina) and Douglas (Sandra) Baum; daughter-in-law, Jan Baum; step-granddaughters, Vickie (Duane) Winter and Sherri (Tom) Harman; five great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 23 at the First Congregational Church UCC in Charlotte, with Rev. Patricia Stirling officiating. Interment was at Briley Township Cemetery in Atlanta, Mich.

Robert Vernon Congdon
Robert V. Congdon, age 80 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at his residence following a long illness. He was born February 6, 1922 in Flint, the son of Phillip B. and Hattie L. (Baumgardner) Congdon. Mr. Congdon served in the Army during World War II, he had retired from General Motors in Flint with 30 years of service, retiring in 1981. He was a member of the Eaton Art League and the Grand Blanc Huntsman Club. Preceding him in death were a son, Robert D. in 1989; granddaughter, Kimberly Breckenridge; step-daughter, Diane Green; step-grandson and daughter Michael D. Hoag and April L. England; sister, Iva VanKinkle; brother, Howard E. Congdon.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Dorothy; step-son, Dennis (Shirley) Hoag of New Buffalo, MI; 4 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great grandchildren; brother, Virgil R. Congdon of Beatty, NV; sister-in-law, Francis Congdon of Lapeer; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, a memorial gift may be made to either the Eaton Community Hospice or the Springport United Methodist Church in memory of Robert V. Congdon.
Geraldine L. Conley
Geraldine L. “Jairie” Conley, 73, of Charlotte, passed away June 3, 2002 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Conley was born May 26, 1929 in Lansing, the daughter of John and Lucy Bailey. She had been a resident of Charlotte since 1947 and also, for the past 17 years, a winter resident of Ruskin, Fla. She married Fred Conley Sept. 6, 1947. In 1981, Mrs. Conley retired from the state of Michigan. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Charlotte and attended First Baptist Church of Ruskin, Fla. during winter months.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; daughters, Cynthia King of Lansing, Jan (Mark) Basarich of Dallas, Texas, and Jackie (Michael) Miller of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Jennifer King, Casey King, Andrew Miller and Brett Miller; two brothers, William Bailey and Donald Bailey; and two sisters, Judy Klont and Carol Borring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucy Bailey; four brothers, John Bailey, Kenneth Bailey, Daniel Bailey and Jack Bailey.
Funeral services were held June 6 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Richard Wilford officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church of Charlotte.
Marjorie L. Constable
Marjorie Leon Constable, 91, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, May 18, 2002 at Shore Haven Living Center in Grand Haven.
Mrs. Constable was born March 6, 1911 in Charlotte, the daughter of Kenneth and Mable Clever, and married George Constable in April 1936. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed in retail sales and photography. She was a life-long member of Charlotte Congregational Church and she enjoyed being a mother.
She is survived by two daughters, Pat Best of Spring Lake and Pam (Bernie) Ackerman of Southfield; brother, Jack (Ruth) Clever of Charlotte; granddaughter, Christine (David) Lee of Navarre, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, Briana Lee and India Lee.
She was preceded in death by her husband George in 1996, and a brother, Neil Clever.
Memorial services will be held for Marjorie and George Constable at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at First Congregational Church in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Ottawa. Arrangements were by Clock Funeral Home in Grand Haven.
Garry L. Cook
Garry Lee Cook, 68, of Bellevue, died July 18, 2002 at Serenity Acres in Bellevue.
Mr. Cook was born June 25, 1934 to Clarence and Martha (Cook) Cook in Bellevue. He worked as a laborer doing yard work for friends and neighbors. He enjoyed playing the banjo and flower gardening.
He is survived by brothers, Lowell (Betty) Cook of Charlotte and Norman (Joanne) Cook of Bellevue; three nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held July 22 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor Wendell Stine officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
Robert Lynn Dockey, Jr.
Robert Lynn Dockey, Jr., age 36 of Walled Lake, died Thursday, January 17, 2002 in Munising as a result of a snowmobile accident. He was born in Owosso, Michigan May 14, 1965 to Robert L. & Constance L. (Fitnich) Dockey. Mr. Dockey resided in Walled Lake for the past 4 years and had resided in Lake Orion before that. He married Mary Margaret Dyczkowski on October 23, 1999 in Farmington Hills. Mr. Dockey worked for Ironworkers Local 25 for 18 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary M. Dockey of Walled Lake; son, Theron Dockey; daughter, Sarah Dockey; parents, Robert & Cindy Dockey of Charlotte and Constance & Mike Lighthill of Oakley; 2 sisters, Jackie (Chris) Dockey Strauss of Lansing and Sandy Dockey of Eaton Rapids; brother, Scott Dockey of Rochester Hills; stepbrothers, Rod (Jennifer) Lighthill of Charlotte and Steve (Brenda) Lighthill of Owosso; grandmother, Frances (Izzy) Nowak of Flushing; nephew, Cory Hartman; niece, Aleyia Sutton; mother & father-in-law, Jerome & Noreen Dyczkowski; aunts & uncles, Steve & Mary Ann Ford, Barb & Tony Vargo, Mike & Kathie Fitnich; many cousins; special friends, Jack & Robin Kemp of Eaton Rapids. He was predeceased by brother, Jeffrey; grandparents, Clyde & Sarah Dockey and Matthew Fitnich.
Funeral services were held at Jennings-Lyons Funeral Chapel, Owosso, on Monday, January 21, 2002 with Rev. Norman R. Beckwith, Sr. officiating. Interment will be at Oak Hill Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Trust Fund for his children in memory of Robert Lynn Dockey, Jr.
Kathryn Dodgson
Kathryn L. Dodgson passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Dec. 3, 2002.
She was raised in Charlotte, the daughter of Addie Belle and Gordon Van McConnell, attended Olivet College and the Lansing Conservatory of Music.
She moved with her husband Glenwood Dodgson to Grand Rapids in 1936 and had been a member of Park Congregational Church since then, where she was a member of the Dregge Ten, and played piano for the kindergarten. She was also a member of the Sallie Bender Guild of Butterworth Hospital and the Women’s City Club. She and Glenwood were also founding member of the GR Western Horse Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenwood Dodgson, owner of the Dodgson Beauty Salons; sisters, Mildred and Melverna Warren of Potterville.
She is survived by her children, Jack (Sue Harnick) Smith, Michael (Alice) Dodgson, Yvonne Dodgson, John (Leslie) Dodgson and Gregory Dodgson; grandchildren, Gordon, Larry, David and Kathy Smith, Bill, JoAnn, Steve Dodgson, Susan Appenzeller, Katie Southwell, Jenny Cook, Dane Smith, Brett Dodgson, Liz Fetkenhour, Meg Clark and Ryan Dodgson; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
