Mary M. Hill
Mary Margaret Hill, 83, of Charlotte, died Sunday, May 26, 2002.
Mrs. Hill was born Sept. 25, 1918 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Franklin Sylvester Hubbell and Marie Elyane (Bone) Hubbell. She was a 33-year member of the Charlotte Country Club and worked at Kellogg’s for 25 years, retiring in 1977.
She is survived by husband, Merritt; daughters, Sue Ellen (Roger) Haughey of Battle Creek, Sandra (Roger) Grundmann of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Mary (Jim) Johnson of Cedarburg, Wis.; son, John (Robbie) Hill-Otto of Saugatuck; six grandsons and two great-grandsons.
Family affirmation services were held May 28 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or Eaton Community Hospice; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Blanche L. Hisler
Blanche L. (McDonald) Hisler, 99, of Springport, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002 at Eaton Manor Nursing Home in Charlotte.
Mrs. Hisler was born Jan. 22, 1903 in Charlotte, the daughter of Thomas and Susan (Ferris) McDonald, and was a lifelong Eaton County resident. She attended Eaton County Normal School and taught school at the VerPlank and Butterfield Rural schools.
Surviving are three daughters, Kathryn Stevens of Bellevue, Charlotte Dowding and Virginia (Darrell) Hicks, both of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Dorma Hisler of Springport; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Hisler on Oct. 28, 1950 and her son, Harry “Bud” Hisler Jr. on July 31, 1999.
Funeral services were held Dec. 18 at Burkhead-Green, Funeral Chapel in Charlotte, with Jerry Carpenter, Minister of The Gospel, officiating. Interment was at Clarence Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte District Library, Hayes Green Beach Hospital or Eaton County Meals on Wheels.
Clarence J. Hodges
Clarence J. Hodges, 72, of Charlotte, died Thursday, April 11, 2002.
Mr. Hodges was born Sept. 18, 1929 in Lansing, the son of John Cloyce and Lottie (Sullivan) Hodges. He worked for Oldsmobile in the main plant for over 30 years, retiring in 1980. He was a former member of VFW 701 and 1632 in Lansing, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, of 50 years, Dorothy; son, Ed (Rose) of Charlotte; and sister, Novella LaTourette of Spring Lake. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy in 2000.
Funeral mass was held April 15 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Father Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery in Potterville. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Mildred A. Holcomb
Mildred A. (Rouse) Holcomb, 71, of Charlotte, formerly of Lansing and West Virginia, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Ingham Regional Medical Center in Lansing.
Mrs. Holcomb was born in Lansing, the daughter of Mahlon and Marjorie (Dixon) Rouse and had been a Charlotte resident for three years, coming from West Virginia.
She is survived by son, Leonard (Kathy) Lutz of Charlotte; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Harry (Joan) Rouse of West Virginia; and three sisters, Kimm (Thomas) Griffin of Lansing, Helen (Donald) DeBie of Florida and Frances Rouse of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin Holcomb; daughter, Jeannette Lutz; brothers, Mahlon Rouse and Milton Brown; and stepfather, Francis Stump.
Funeral services were held March 27 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Cremation followed the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Barry-Eaton Health Department Home Health Care/Hospice program.
Edna M. Holton
Edna Mae (Gullett) Holton, 78, of Charlotte, formerly of Mulliken, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte, after an extended illness.
Mrs. Holton was born Aug. 18, 1923 in Kentucky, the daughter of Kelly and Goldie (Patrick) Gullett and had resided in Michigan since 1944.
She is survived by three daughters, Donna (Dan) Darrow of Onondaga, Debbie (Rich) Carlson of Mason and Vicki Phillips of Alabama; son, Vance Courser of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; sister, Faye Baldwin of Marshall; and brother, Homer Gullett of Lansing.
Funeral services were held Feb. 20 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Winford Collins officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Harley Hood Jr.
Harley H. Hood Jr., 54, of Charlotte, died July 29, 2002.
Mr. Hood was born Nov. 26, 1947 in Pontiac, the son of Harley Harry Hood Sr. and Eilene Gilbert.
He is survived by his wife, Lettie Hood; sons, Harley Hood III and Russell Hood, both of Charlotte; brothers, Gilbert, Charles and Richard, all of Charlotte, Tom of Battle Creek, Robert of Illinois and Steve of Texas; sisters, Anna and Carol of Texas; grandson, Ryan Daniel Hood of Charlotte.
Funeral services were held Aug. 2 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Father Bill Lugger officiating. Interment was at Perry Cemetery in Brookfield Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family or VFW Post #2406; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Richard A. Hoover
Richard A. Hoover, 72, of Charlotte, died Thursday evening, March 21, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Hoover was born Dec. 12, 1929 in Charlotte, a son of Levi and Louise (Class) Hoover. A one-armed bass player and vocalist, he was a member of the Federation of Musicians, played many benefit concerts and performed on WJIM and WLIX TV.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary; two sons, Dan of East Lansing and Rich of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held March 25 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte. Pallbearers were Dan and Rich Hoover, Ben and Randy Battisfoe, Mark Lewis and Ted Sevrey.
Arrangements were by Barker-Leik Funeral Home in Mulliken.
Clare Harvey Householder
Clare Harvey Householder, 66, of Kalamazoo, died March 30, 2002.
Mr. Householder was born Dec. 11, 1935 in Charlotte, the son of Mayford and Verna (Roach) Householder.
Funeral services were held April 5 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte with Pastor Grant Butler officiating.
