Leonteen Jones
The angel of death visited the Jones family and bore away the soul of their beloved mother, sister, grandmother and friend. Leonteen Jones passed from this life to the promise of eternal rest on Sunday, October 27, 2002 at the Ingham Medical Center. She was attended by those who were closest to her in this life. Her passing marked the end of a brief but courageous fight with cancer. Leonteen entered this life on September 24, 1930 at Sturgis, Kentucky, the fifth child of Lester Brantley and Nonie O’Neal. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Duard “Casey” Jones on September 15, 1949. To this union was born four children: three sons and one daughter. All of whom survive, except one son who died in infancy.
Leonteen was best known for her gift of hospitality, and many of this community have been guests at her table. She never knew at stranger and never turned away the visitor who was treated as if they were the angelic visitations to Abraham. She reveled in being able to demonstrate what she knew to be the role of mother and grandmother. In a time when families seem to have lost sight of the traditional role that mother have played throughout history, she worked hard to keep that tradition alive.
Surviving are her children, Most Reverend David Jones of Excelsior Springs, MO, Rawleigh Jones and Mrs. Nonie Vsetula both of Lansing; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
