Ila Grace Kelsey Talbot
Ila Grace Kelsey nee Talbot, age 89 of Waterford Estates, Hazel Crest, Illinois, died May 24, 2002. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Elks, and Eagles and the First Baptist Church of Mattoon. She was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 2 brothers.
She was beloved mother of Michael Jay (Pam) Kelsey of Powder Springs, Georgia; Janice Gayle (Dennis) Johnson of Flossmoor, Illinois; Karin A. (Tony) Smith of Aurora, Ohio and Lowell Edward (Janice) Kelsey of Olympia Fields, Illinois; cherished grandmother of 7; dear sister of Nora Versaci of Trevose, Pennsylvania and aunt of numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at the Resthaven Cemetery, Mattoon, Illinois. Memorials to the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army would be appreciated. Arrangements were made by the Tews Funeral Home, Inc., Homewood, IL.
Mary E. Tanner
Mary Ellen Tanner, 75, of Battle Creek, died Feb. 25, 2002 at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
Mrs. Tanner was born Feb. 28, 1926 to Myrl and Helen (Warrington) Klingaman in Tekonsha. She graduated from Tekonsha High School and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper at Eaton Corporation in Battle Creek until retiring in 1966. She married Mat Tanner on Jan. 19, 1963 in Homer; he died Oct. 19, 1998. Mrs. Tanner was a charter member of the Bellevue Christian Center. She enjoyed her grandchildren and working in her yard growing flowers.
She is survived by son, James (Diane) Tanner of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Misti (Jeremai) Cook and Chad Leonard of Battle Creek; great-grandchildren, Jeremai Cook and Taylor Gwynne; brother, Keith (Becky) Klingaman of Homer; several nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
Funeral services were held March 1 at Bellevue Christian Center, with Pastor Steve Covert officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Tekonsha.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellevue Christian Center. Arrangements were by Shawn Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
James R. Thomas
James R. Thomas, 67, of Bellevue, formerly of Lansing, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Thomas was born July 15, 1934 in Lansing, the son of Ezra and Sarah (Bishop) Thomas, and had been a Bellevue resident since 1979. He was a retired employee of Michigan National Bank in Lansing and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Charlotte Branch.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Hudson) Thomas; son, Robert Thomas of Bellevue; daughters, Karen (Richard) Shockley of Georgia and Linda (Martin) Allred of South Carolina; nine grandchildren; sister, Barbara Alexander of Kalkaska and brother in-law, Edward Fender of Alger.
He was preceded in death by sister, Lena Fender and Mildred Cox.
Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints, Charlotte Branch, with Brand President David Judd officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Lansing.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Church Missionary Fund. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Faith A. Thompson
Faith A. Thompson, 59, of Charlotte, died Thursday, April 11, 2002 after a battle with cancer.
Mrs. Thompson was born Dec. 1, 1942. She was a homemaker and enjoyed animals, especially dogs and cats.
She is survived by her husband, Harry; sisters, Sharon Seeley of Virginia Beach, Va., Karen Shannon of Pasadena, Md., Shirley Cokonougher of Ermine, Ky., and Mary Hortsman of Williamston; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ila Bender; father, Eric Christianson; and brother, James Dulong.
Funeral services were held April 15 at Charlotte Assembly of God, with Rev. Mark Woodbury officiating. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home of Charlotte.
Richard E. Thompson
Richard Eugene Thompson, 77, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, May 29, 2002.
Mr. Thompson was born May 25, 1925 in Charlotte, the son of Allen and Bessie (Russ) Thompson. He served in the U.S. Navy and was retired from Dart Container, working with silver solder and brazing. He was a member of Eagles Aerie #3552, American League Bowling and Top of the Hill Bowling League.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy (Rugg); sons, Phillip (Dale) of Nashville, Michael (Wende) of Bradenton, Fla., and Lyle (Cindy) of Charlotte; daughters, Linda (Jay) Johnson of Howell, Pamela Huffman of Charlotte and Penny Thompson; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Eloise Thompson of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Bernice Dykwietz and Beatrice Wietzke; and brothers, Russ Thompson, George Thompson and Lyle Dean Thompson.
Funeral services were held June 1 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.
Mary Thorburn
Mary (Arakelian) Thorburn, 78, of Olivet, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 at Marshall Manor Nursing Home after a short illness.
Mrs. Thorburn was born April 25, 1924 in Highland Park, the daughter of Abraham and Mary Arakelian, and had been an Olivet-area resident since 1970. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Charlotte.
She is survived by two sons, Charles (Linda) Ohannesian of Hartland and George (Sandra) Ohannesian of Taylor; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and step-son, Robert Thorburn of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Thorburn on March 12, 2000; and two sons, John and Benjamin Ohannesian.
Funeral services were held June 5 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Roy Backus officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte American Legion Auxiliary.
Elaine Thornton
Elaine Rose (Leach) Thornton, 85, of Bloomington, Ind., died Monday, April 29, 2002, at the home of her daughter, Sonja.
Mrs. Thornton was born June 11, 1916 in Detroit, the daughter of Floyd “Todd” and Eva Marie (Cornell) Leach. She was a graduate of Charlotte High School, a pianist, an artist and a master seamstress. She was employed in the 40s by LaRue Photography Studio in Charlotte, worked as dressmaker and seamstress in Lake Odessa, and in Foley and Gulf Shores, Ala. For more than 35 years. She attended First United Methodist Church in Bloomington, but had retained her membership at Central United Methodist Church in Lake Odessa. She was a member of Foley Senior Center in Foley, Ala., and the “55” Senior Center in Pensacola, Fla.
She is survived by two daughter, Rhoda (Bracy) Gould of Charlotte and Sonja (Bracy) Jackson of Bloomington, Ind.; son, Dexter Bracy of Portland; stepson, Charles Thornton of Petoskey; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Murrell Thornton in 1983; brother, Willis Leach; and granddaughter, Dawn Elaine Gould, who died in infancy.
Private memorial services will be held in Michigan at a later date.
She donated her body to Indiana University Medical School’s Anatomical Education Program. Interment of her cremains will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, Ind.

Dorothy B. Tirrell
Dorothy B. Tirrell, 99, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002.
Mrs. Tirrell was born Nov. 25, 1902 in Kalamo Township, the daughter of Bert and Myra (Shellenbarger) Bell. She was a school teacher at the Munson Country School and the “Old” Washington School. She attended Eaton County Normal School and Western Michigan University, and was a member of Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and church membership secretary. Mrs. Tirrell was also a member of the I Go-U-Go Club, Charlotte Grange, and Eaton County Farm Bureau – Loyal Suburbanites. She loved visiting the folks in area foster care homes and volunteered at Eaton Manor Nursing Home.
She is survived by sons Donald (Donna Jeanne) Tirrell of Charlotte, Jack (Marian) Tirrell of Charlotte, six grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Kenneth Tirrell in 1982, grandson Allen Tirrell in 1988, and sister Beulah Wilson in 2000.
Funeral services were held Oct. 4 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
