Douglas Schultz
Douglas Schultz, 70, of Charlotte, died October 24, 2002 at his residence. Mr. Schultz was born May 20, 1932 in Chester Township, Michigan, the son of Arthur G. and Elaine (DePue) Schultz.
He was a blacksmith and owner of Chester Blacksmith Shop in Chester. He was a former 4-H leader of the Circle C. Riders and former President of the Michigan Pony Pulling Association.
He is survived by daughters Debbie (Phil) Fisher of North Guilford, Connecticut, Trudy (Rod) Lea of Charlotte, Terri Craft of Dansville, son Randy Schultz of Chester, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brothers Arthur “Sam” of Ceresco, Dorwin “Dade”, Donald, Darrell “Joe” Schultz, all of Charlotte, and Dee of Pickford, and sisters Dorreen “Susie” Kiplinger of Bellevue, and Doris (Michael) McCrimmon of Battle Creek. Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 26 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating.
Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Gary R. Schultz
Gary R. Schultz, 53, of Eaton Rapids, died Friday evening, Nov. 8, 2002 at a Lansing hospital.
Mr. Schultz was born Aug. 29, 1949 in Lakeview, a son of Clair and Thelma (Jacott) Schultz. He was a B.O.C. employee and a member of UAW Local 652.
He is survived by three children, Brad, Adam and Brittany Schultz, all of Eaton Rapids; two grandchildren; three sisters, Linda Fanslau of Harrison, Fern David of Dimondale and Debbie Boren of Arlington, Texas; and one brother, Jerry Schultz of Dayton, Ohio.
Services were held Nov. 12 at Field & Leik Funeral Home in Dimondale, with Rev. Dr. C. Lee Filker officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery. Pallbearers were Daniel Davis, Ron Davis, Kirt Eschtruth, Todd Eschtruth, Adam Schultz and Tom VanDerWoude. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Chad M. Schwartz
Chad Michael Schwartz, age 18, died Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at his residence in Eaton Rapids. He was born December 12, 1983 in Eaton Rapids. Chad was a student at Meadow View School in Charlotte.
Surviving are his mother, Juanita Schwartz of Eaton Rapids; brother Sean (Trisha Carpenter) Schwartz of Charlotte; grandparents, Lester and Martha Holley Jr. of Eaton Rapids; aunts and uncles, Joyce (Dan) Doxtader of Charlotte, Cyril (Sherry) Schwartz of Ashley, Michael Schwartz of Elkhart, Ind., Joseph (Liz) Schwartz of Lansing, Joan (James) Lester of Mason, Janice Schwartz of Eaton Rapids, Christine (Steve) Goddard of Lexington, KY, Diane Schwartz of Eaton Rapids and April (Jay) Frost of Pinckney; numerous cousins and special friends; special teacher Jan Wiltshire.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 12th from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Fr. Ben Constantine, officiating. Burial followed at Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to either the Meadow View School or Crippled Children Foundation in loving memory of Chad Michael Schwartz.
Matthew J. Scott
Matthew J. Scott, age 11 of Eaton Rapids, died from accidental drowning on Saturday, July 6, 2002 in Eaton Rapids. Matthew, the son of William (Joyce) Scott of Eaton Rapids and Sandra Lein of North Carolina, was born September 16, 1990 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. He had just completed the 6th grade at the Greyhound Intermediate School in Eaton Rapids and played saxophone in the band there. He loved playing soccer, skateboarding, basketball, baseball and hockey.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by 3 brothers, John Liepins of Eaton Rapids, Adam Stiver of Florida, Eric Stiver of Charlotte; 2 sisters, Stephanie Scott of Eaton Rapids, Michelle Gross of Lansing; grandparents, Joseph & Diane Scott of Eaton Rapids, June Marple of Charlotte, John & Judy Hopkins of Florida; great-grandmother, Maria Szakovits of Hungary; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. Those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer “Relay for Life” Program in memory of Matthew Scott.
Irene M. Seamark
Irene Mable Seamark, 91, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, July 17, 2002.
Mrs. Seamark was born June 8, 1911 in Manchester, the daughter of Irving and Elizabeth (Sarah) Knickerbocker. She was an active member of the Ruth Circle of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church. Mrs. Seamark was a production worker for R.E.O. and Wilcox Gay and worked as a clerk for Murphy’s Dime Store in Charlotte. She also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by daughter, Jean Broskey of Charlotte; son-in-law, Jay (Donna) Lea of Charlotte; seven grandchildren, Rick Lea, Randy (Cheryl) Lea, Jeryl Powers, Rodney (Trudy) Lea, Tim (Liz) Lea, Karen Lea, Christopher (Jennifer) Broskey and Heather (Ben) Kestner; 14 great-grandchildren; special friend, Dorothy Lewellyn; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Fay Seamark in 1992, daughter Patricia Ann Lea in 1984, and sister Beulah Gertrude Marshall.
Funeral services were held July 19 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Walton Township.
Ronald H. Sellen
Ronald “Ronnie” H. Sellen, 64, of Nashville, died July 1, 2002.
Mr. Sellen was born June 23, 1938 in Bellevue Township, the son of Clelle and Ilah (Swift) Sellen.
He is survived by his wife Ava (Hyatt) Sellen of Nashville; sons, Timothy and Colon of Nashville, and Wade of Charlotte; daughter, Robin Poyer of Battle Creek; brothers, Merlin of Battle Creek, and Rodney and Charles of Bellevue; and sister, Clella of Bellevue.
Funeral services were held July 5 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Interment was at Kalamo Cemetery in Charlotte.
Fred L. Shafe
Fred L. Shafe, 95, of Olivet, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002 at Tendercare of Marshall.
Mr. Shafe was born Dec. 1, 1906 in Lee Township, Calhoun County, the son of Edward and Minnie (Wing) Shafe and was a life-long Lee Township resident. He was a self-employed carpenter and farmer, and was a former member of the Olivet I.O.O.F. Lodge.
He is survived by his son, Thomas (Margaret) of Olivet; seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; three brothers, Carl of Bellevue, Raymond of Colon and Norris of Olivet; and one sister, Lucille Babcock of Clearwater, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Harris) Shafe; daughter, Gayle Gordon; granddaughter, Sandy Starr; sisters, Maude Lott, Hazel Kibler and Dora Vosburg; and brother, Graydon Shafe.
Funeral services were held Aug. 5 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel in Charlotte, with Pastor Douglas Hammond officiating. Interment was at Lee Center Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association.
Heavenly Anne Shelden
Heavenly Anne Shelden, age 3 of Lansing, died Friday, August 30, 2002 in Minneapolis, MN. She was born April 22, 1999 in Charlotte. Heavenly was preceded in death by 3 grandfathers, George Morehouse, Merrill F. Shelden and Michael Olson; grandmother, Luz Marie Shelden.
Surviving are her parents, Stephen Shelden and Deborah Olson of Lansing, brother, David Shelden of Lansing; 2 half brothers, Stephen (Virginia) Shelden II, William Shelden both of Eaton Rapids; half sister, Katina Shelden of Holt; grandmother, Deborah Morehouse; great-grandparents, William and Connie Oakley of Weidman, MI; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2002, 11:00 a.m., at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids, with Father Denis Spitzley officiating. C. Royce Shepard
C. Royce Shepard, 67, passed away March 13, 2002.
Mr. Shepard was born April 8, 1934 in Assyria, the son of Bernard and Lucille (Turner) Shepard. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1952 and worked for and retired from Kellogg’s in the late 1960’s. He founded, owned and operated C & R Clock Shop, a nationally and internationally recognized antique clock shop. Mr. Shepard was a member of the National Watch and Clock Collectors Association, and Tri-State Gas Engine & Tractor Association, Inc. He was considered an expert on John Deere antique tractors, engines and memorabilia. He worked with Belcher Spaulding Auctioneers as an appraiser, and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pennfield. Mr. Shepard enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, and flower and vegetable gardening. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in a variety of sports, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dotty Lois (Bush) Shepard of Battle Creek; sons, Steven (Beth), Joseph (Denis) and Ronald (Dawn), all of Battle Creek, and Robyn (Denice) of Bellevue; 10 grandsons, seven granddaughters and four great-grandchildren; mother, Lucille; sister, Joyce Hakes; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard on Jan. 15, 1992; and son David on Jan. 26, 1999.
Funeral services were held March 15 at Calvary Baptist Church in Pennfield, with Rev. Jim Luedeman officiating. Interment was at Assyria Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice Care. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
