Dale C. Roscoe, Jr.
Dale C. Roscoe Jr., 84, of Bellevue, died Feb. 8, 2002 at home.
Mr. Roscoe was born May 29, 1917 to Dale and Pearl (Caley) Roscoe, Sr. in Battle Creek. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked as a millwright at Eaton Manufacturing for 37 years, retiring in 1983. He married Helen Munger in 1967; she died in 1975. Mr. Roscoe enjoyed building and making things, boating, fishing and camping.
He is survived by daughters, Nancy (Richard) West of Free Soil and Virginia Foutch of Eaton Rapids; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and sister, Dorothy Kader of Portage.
He was preceded in death by son David Roscoe, his wife Helen, and four brothers and one sister.
Memorial services were held Feb. 13 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. Interment of ashes will take place at Riverside Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Roger Lee Roth
Roger Lee Roth, 72, loving husband, father and grandpa, passed away at his home in Oneida Township, where he was a lifelong resident.
He worked on his farm and was formerly employed by G.T.E., Fisher Body, Diamond-Reo Co., and his son’s excavating business. He enjoyed helping others, including repairing items for neighbors and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Wilma; sons, Roger (Martha) of Sunfield, Douglas of Mulliken, Steve (Eilene) and Andrew of Grand Ledge; daughters, Susan (Duane) Lilly and Karen (Dave) Miller of Charlotte, Carlene Heasley of Midland, Texas, Sandra Carter of Mulliken and Jannell Roth of Grand Ledge; 23 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Flora Mae) Roth of Grand Ledge and Howard (Molly) Roth of Three Rivers; sister Donna Ito of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by daughter Julie Ann Rosebaum, son Wesley David, brother Glen and grandson David.
Funeral services were held June 17 at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice.
Melvin L. Royston
Melvin Lyle Royston, 45, of Durant, Okla., died Saturday, April 6, 2002.
Mr. Royston was born July 31, 1956 in Charlotte, the son of Lyle Sheldon and Shirley Jane (Bursley) Royston. He loved fishing and worked yard maintenance for a landscaping company.
He is survived by his parents, Lyle and Shirley of Clarksville; son, Shelby Royston and stepson, Jeremy Foreman of Cartwright, Okla.; sister, Yvonne (Gary) Stults of Bellevue; niece, Laura Bracy; nephew, Jerry Bracy; two great-nieces, Kerstin Linn and Brooke Bracy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leo and Freda Royston, and George and Elsie Reed.
Funeral services were held April 12 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Randy Royston officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Gardens in Lansing.

Harry Salter
Harry A. Salter, 92, of Three Rivers, formerly of Charlotte, died June 26 in Three Rivers. Mr. Salter was born March 16, 1910 in Kalamazoo, the son of George S. and Maude R. (Keyes) Salter.
He had been a grocery store manager all of his working life.
He is survived by his long-time companion, Hazel Boudo, two sons, Richard H. of Hayward, Calif. and James H. of Battle Creek, two grandchildren, and a sister, Dorothy Gilmore. Also surviving are Hazel’s eight children.
A graveside committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Battle Creek, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Anna Mae Schaub-Antico
Anna Mae Schaub-Antico, 84, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002.
Anna Mae was born Sept. 6, 1918, in Vermontville, the daughter of Ray and Hattie (Bale) Hawkins. She enjoyed weaving and bingo with her “nickels” she won going to her grandkids.
She is survived by sons, Larry (Barbara) Schaub of Charlotte and Jack (Cathy) Schaub of Nashville; daughter, Patricia (Larry) Wright of Charlotte; nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Elwood Hawkins of Grand Ledge; sisters, Eleanor Rawson of Byron Center and Lucille Carroll of Portland; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John and brother Lawrence Hawkins.
Memorial services were held Nov. 8 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Don Palmer officiating. A family graveside service was held at Sunfield Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the March of Dimes.
Harriet A. Schmitz
Harriet A. Schmitz, 83, of Lansing, formerly of Charlevoix, died Saturday, March 16, 2002.
Mrs. Schmitz was born May 24, 1918 in Braeburn, Penn., the daughter of Andrew and Kate (Peters) Copin.
She is survived by husband, William Schmitz; daughters, Ellen (Barry) Ewing of Grand Ledge, Linda (Rex) Bebee of Oak Harbor, Wash.; son, Eugene (Mona Raye) Towsley of Charlevoix; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; stepson, William Lee Schmitz of Grand Ledge; brothers, Andrew Copin of Grand Rapids, John Copin of Florida and James Roach of Pa.
Family affirmation services were held March 20 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte. Interment was at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Raymond M. “Rip” Schmitz
Raymond M. “Rip” Schmitz, 74, of Westphalia, passed away April 28, 2002.
Mr. Schmitz was born in Westphalia Sept. 30, 1927, the son of Michael and Regina (Feldpausch) Schmitz. Hew as a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Society.
He is survived by his wife of 48 ½ years, Wilma; children, Susan (Gary) Ballard of Lansing, Raymond Jr. (friend Cindy) of St. Johns, Marie (Robert) Badder of Ionia, Connie (Jim) Southwell of St. Johns, Tony (Martha) of Pewamo, Craig (friend Roxanne) of Westphalia, Carl (Pam) of Portland, Denise (Mark) Droste of Westphalia, Dennis (Cindy) of Ionia, and Stephanie (Tom) Morgan of Grand Ledge; 29 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brothers, Frederick (Rose) Schmitz of Pewamo, Aloysius Schmitz of Muir, Edward (Joan) Schmitz and Michael (Hilda) Schmitz, both of Westphalia; sister, Marjory Platte of Westphalia, Jeanette Thelen of Ovid, Wilma Bambrick and Alice Hoover, both of Lansing, Gertrude (Jerome) Schafer of DeWitt; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by grandchildren, Rebecca Badder and April Southwell; brothers-in-law, Jim Thelen, Frances Platte, Fred Bambrick and David Hoover, Sr.; and sister-in-law, Joyce Schmitz.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 2 at Rev. Cecilio Reyna, with Rite of Committal following at St. May’s Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements were by Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
William L. Schmitz
William Leo “Bill” Schmitz, 88, of Lansing, died Sunday, March 31, 2002.
Mr. Schmitz was born Feb. 25, 1914 in Bloomington, Ill., the son of Henry and Ora (Holland) Schmitz. He was employed by Morris Auto Parts in Lansing and formerly worked for the Lansing Police Department and C&J Transport.
He is survived by son, Lee “Spike” (Arlinda) Schmitz of Grand Ledge; stepson, Eugene (Mona Raye) Towsley of Charlevoix; stepdaughters, Ellen (Barry) Ewing of Grand Ledge and Linda (Rex) Bebee of Oak Harbor, Wash.; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; brother, Marvin of Farmer City, Ill.; sisters, Wanda (Kenneth) Cook of Normal, Ill., and Ione Utter of Clinton, Ill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Harriett (Copin) Schmitz on March 16, 2002.
Family Affirmation Services were held April 4 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell facilitating. Interment was at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Lansing.
