Irene L. Nisse
Irene L. (Bryant, Rutter) Nisse, 72, of Tampa, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 at her home.
Mrs. Nisse was born March 3, 1929 in Ft. Wayne, Ind., the daughter of Alvie and Alice Bryant. Before moving to Florida, she lived in the Charlotte and Potterville area. Mrs. Nisse was a former admitting clerk at Ingham Medical Hospital before retiring and moving to Tampa, Fla. She was a 1947 graduate of Charlotte High School and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
She is survived by her husband, Duane Nisse; son, Ed Rutter; daughters, Linda Lake and Nancy Bliesener; stepson, Duane Nisse Jr.; stepdaughters, Kathy, Dawn, Debra and Rena; four grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren and three great- grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred McCoy.
Visitations were held Jan. 7 at Adams Jennings Funeral Home, Tampa, Fla. Memorial donations may be made to the America Lupus Society, 260 Maple Court, Suite 123, Ventura, CA 93003-3512.
Melba Jean Noblit
Melba Jean Noblit, age 72 of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, December 11, 2002 in Charlotte. Melba was born July 8, 1930 in Hillsdale, the daughter of Everett and Myrtle (Clingerman) LeVan. She was formerly employed with the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital and Green Bay Foods. Melba was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Noblit in 1965.
Surviving are her 2 daughters, Diana (Joanne Comer) Hann of Grand Ledge, Debra Jibson of Potterville; stepdaughter, Irene Dryer of Jonesville; 2 sons, Bob Little of Pinconning, Russell “Rusty” Noblit of Reno, NV; 2 stepsons, Lawrence Noblit of Richland, Gary Noblit of Hillsdale; 7 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren and 1 sister, Wanda Kruger of Alpena.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, December 14, 2002 at the Reading Cemetery in Reading, MI. Casket bearers were Russell Noblit, Debra Jibson, Bob Little, Matthew Jibson, Christopher Jibson and Jeff Blackman. Those desiring may make contributions to Multiple Sclerosis Foundation in memory of Melba J. Noblit. Arrangements by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
James R. Norton
James R. Norton of Dallas, Texas, formerly of the Lansing area, passed away after a lengthy illness on July 6, 2002. He was born June 19, 1954, the son of the late Rolland O. Norton and Betty L. Cox of Dallas.
He is also survived by his sister Teresa (Ned) Palmer, brother David (Carleen) Norton of Vermontville, MI, and brother Paul Norton of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, July 19 at 6:30 pm at Community Christian Church, 219 E. Knight St., Eaton Rapids with Pastor Stephen Klink officiating.
Memorial contributions may be sent in his name to the Community Christian Church Building Fund.
Anne E. Nuckolls
Anne Elizabeth Nuckolls, 93, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Oct. 09, 2002.
Mrs. Nuckolls was born April 2, 1909, in Yale, Michigan, the daughter of William and Mary (Ohmer) Beers.
She is survived by daughter, Beverly (Jack) Short of Charlotte; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
No services are planned.

John H. Oblak
John H. Oblak, age 84 of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, April 12, 2002 in Okemos. John was born October 23, 1917 in Highland Park, the son of Matthew and Antonette (Cades) Oblak. Mr. Oblak was a member of St. Peter Church in Eaton Rapids, the Knights of Columbus and the Croatian Fraternal Union of America. In 1980 he retired from both the Excello Company and the A&P in Detroit. He was preceded in death by his sister, Genevieve Hartmen.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Elfrieda T.; daughter, Diane (Carl) Wilks of Southgate; 2 sons, John D. (Ivanka) Oblak of Novi; Michael Oblak of Canton; stepdaughter, Gwen (Paul) Albright of Eaton Rapids; 2 stepsons, Lyle (Marie) Huettner of Plymouth, Ronald Huettner of Belleville; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and 1 brother, Matthew Oblak of Farmington Hills.
Mass of the Christian Burial was prayed Monday, April 15, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church, Eaton Rapids, with Father Bennett Constantine as Celebrant. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to either the St. Peter Church Building Fund or to Mother Teresa House in memory of John Oak.
Alton A. Olmstead
Alton A. “Al” Olmstead, 57, of Battle Creek, died Feb. 14, 2002.
Mr. Olmstead was born Aug. 19, 1944 in Lansing, the son of Chester and Ruth (Abbott) Olmstead. He was a truck driver and loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his wife Linda (Harmon) Olmstead, daughter Barbara (Stephen) Forest, son David (Anna) Olmstead, and stepdaughter Wendy Piffer, all of Vermontville; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Richardson of Mulliken; and half-sister, Illa Cogswell of Manton.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Chester Olmstead in 1996.
Memorial services were held Feb. 18 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Frank R. Olszewski
Frank Raymond Olszewski, 71, of Charlotte died Saturday, March 30, 2002.
Mr. Olszewski was born March 12, 1931 in Chicago, Ill., the son of Frank Martin and Dora (Burkowski) Olszewski. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, a mechanical engineer, and a member of the VFW in Elk Grove Village, Ill.
He is survived by daughter, Cathleen (Tom) Johnson of Charlotte; son, Scott Raymond Olszewski of Chicago; grandson, Jackson Johnson; and granddaughter, Cydne Johnson of Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline (Arnold) Olszewski on April 1, 1990.
Graveside services were held April 3 at St. Adalbert Cemetery in Niles, Ill.
Dorothy I. Osborne
Dorothy I. Osborne, age 70, of Potterville, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002.
Mrs. Osborne was born Nov. 28, 1932 in Rego County, Ind., the daughter of Bayless and Lillian (House) Fancher.
She is survived by daughters Kathy Spitzley of Potterville and Tammy (Larry) Landers of Charlotte; son, Michael Osborne of Potterville; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; sisters, Maxine Pitman of Bedford, Ind. and Polly Seitz of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Osborne in 1997; grandchild, Channing Trowbridge; and brother John Riley.
Memorial service will be 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2002 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, Michigan with Pastor Dick Grosnickle officiating. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.
Leonard G. Overmyer II
Leonard “Len” G. Overmyer II, 60, of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 28, 2002 at his residence.
Leonard was born Sept. 8, 1941 in Flint, the son of Bruce Darrell and Lillian Marie (Metevia) Overmyer. He was employed with General Motors for 23 years. Len was a veteran of Vietnam serving in the 101st Airborne Division, former commander and life member of Eaton Rapids American Legion Post #15 and a member of Eaton Rapids VFW Post #1283 and the Amvets. He served as the American Legion state commander from 1995 to 1996.
Len was preceded in death by his sister, Gale Melton.
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Betty (Colosi) of Eaton Rapids; three daughters, Leann (Richard) Owen of Eaton Rapids, Sherri (T.J.) Castor of Oklahoma and Ginger (Dave) Boerkircher of Nebraska; three sons, Leonard (Jill) Overmyer III of Grand Rapids, S. Bear Overmyer of Pennsylvania and Jack (Claudia) Overmyer of Eaton Rapids; 10 grandchildren; mother, Lillian Marie Overmyer of Montrose; two brothers, Bruce (Hikmit) Overmyer of Pickford and Gerald (Joyce) Overmyer of Mesick; sister, Kay Wagner of Montrose; brother-in-law, Ken Melton of Copemish; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday evening, Aug. 30, 2002 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Graveside services were held Saturday at Cleon Township Cemetery near Copemish.
