Sheldon E. Mesecar
Sheldon E. Mesecar, 92, of Grand Ledge, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at a Lansing hospital.
Mr. Mesecar was born March 10, 1910 in Campbell Township, Ionia County, a son of Bert and Mildred (Hess) Mesecar. A former resident of Mulliken and Clarksville, he was a retired G.M. employee and a member of First United Methodist Church of Grand Ledge.
Surviving are two daughters, Janet (Richard) Timm of Camarillo, Calif. and Marlene Jaquette of Grand Ledge; 14 grandchildren; four sisters, Leona (Donald) Thompson and Martha (Burkette) Timm, both of Hastings, Madeline (Ed) Pierce of Fenton and Wilma (Jim) Sheehan of Alto; three brothers, Leon (Leta) Mesecar of Woodland, Elwood (Barbara) Mesecar of Alto and Bert Mesecar Jr. of Hastings; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Mabelle and Lois; daughter, Wanda Guilford; two brothers and two sisters.
Services were held Dec. 2 at First United Methodist Church of Grand Ledge, with Rev. W.J. “Bill” Amundsen officiating. Interment was at Meadowbrook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Grand Ledge or the Roxand Service Club Scholarship Fund. Arrangements were by Barker-Leik Funeral Home of Mulliken.
Marion E. Middaugh
Marion E. Middaugh, 69, of Nashville, died Monday, March 4, 2002 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
Mr. Middaugh was born March 17, 1932 in Buckley, a son of Vernon and Ursula (Clark) Middaugh. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired employee of Oldsmobile.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce; one daughter, Julia (Kenneth) McArthur of Lake Odessa; two sons, Michael (Julie) of St. Johns and James (Rena) of Charlotte; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Floris (Everett) Miller and Alice Faye Dukes, both of Lansing; one brother, William (Marci) Middaugh of Fowlerville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held March 8 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Minister William Horton officiating. Interment was at Delta Center Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lester Altoft, Richard Cole, Cory Hale, Kenneth McArthur, Mark Middaugh, Don Wiggins and Randall Wooley.
Dolores C. Miller
Dolores C. (Rasmussen) Miller, 74, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002 at her residence.
Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 4, 1927 in Breckenridge, the daughter of Helgo and Emma (Jenneman) Rasmussen, and had been a Charlotte resident for 52 years. She was a retired Charlotte Public Schools secretary; a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where she was a member of the choir; and a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Hayes Green Beach Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ralph C. Miller; five children, Mark (Kathy) Miller of Indianapolis, Ind., Jeffrey Miller of Dowagiac, AnnMarie (Mark) Anderson of Bloomington, Minn., Susan Miller of Battle Creek and Greg Miller of Lawrence; 10 grandchildren, SSGT Michael Miller, Audrey Miller, LT Erica Fletcher, Trista Kay Miller, Michelle Miller, Molly Miller, Rebecca Miller, Tony Miller, Gregory Anderson and Krista Anderson; great-grandchild, Micaela Gilliam; and three sisters, Mary Maha, Joan Peterson and Lorraine Scarane.
Mass of the Christian Burial was held Sept. 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Rev. Father Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society of Charlotte. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Yvonne Miller
Yvonne “Smoke” Miller, 85, of Charlotte, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002.
Mrs. Miller was born May 25, 1916 in Lawson, Colo., the daughter of Carl and Ida Mae Carlson. She was a bank teller at First Federal of Michigan in the Livonia area before her retirement in 1977.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Wilfred “Pete” Miller; son, John “Jack” (Dicie) Crabtree of Westland; daughter, Joyce (Louis) Lenart of Detroit; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Bev Hochstedler of Colorado.
She was preceded in death by son, Gordon “Buzzy” Crabtree in 1982.
Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Carol Spangenberg officiating. Interment was at Spring Hill Cemetery in Deckerville.
Shirley A. Misch
Shirley A. Misch, 67, of Bellevue, died May 9, 2002 at Southwest Rehabilitation Hospital.
Mrs. Misch was born June 20, 1934 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Darrold and Betty (Scott) Spaulding. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1952 and was employed with Transamerica Insurance in Battle Creek as a secretary and adjuster, retiring in 1991. She married Gerald Misch in February 1967. Mrs. Misch enjoyed knitting, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; daughters, Lori (Steve) Rogers, Patti (Dennis) Vantrease and Sharon (Mark) Burkart, all of Bellevue, and Helen (Gene) Reid of White Cloud; sons, Mike King and Scott (Deidre) Misch of Bellevue; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and brother, Gary (Andrea) Spaulding of Battle Creek.
Memorial services were held May 11 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Rev. Glen Wegner officiating.

Robert Misener
Robert Misener, 80 of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Vermontville and Lansing, died Sunday, Dec. 8, 2002 at his residence.
Mr. Misener was born May 20, 1922 in Grand Ledge, the son of Elmer Sr. and Liddie (Griswald) Misener. He was a brick mason for many years with Bricklayers Local #31.
He is survived by sons, Robert L. (Doreen) Misener, Jr. of Marshall and James (Helen) Misener of Lansing; daughters, Gloria Gilding (Rod) of Bellevue and Rosiland (Richard) Emery of Albion; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer Misener Jr. of Grand Ledge; sister, Mary Kelly of Grand Ledge; companion of many years, Kay Billis and daughters Bev and Dorothy and families.
He was preceded in death by his wife Avis in 1976.
Funeral services were held Dec. 17 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Dr. Roy Backus officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.
Florence Mitchell
Florence Mitchell of Springport, passed away suddenly at home on Tuesday, July 16th, 2002 at the age of 73 years. Her greatest loves were her family, Dan Hubbard, bingo and bird watching. She was a Rebekah member.
Surviving are six children, Paul (special friend Mona) Mitchell, Janice Clark, Nancy (Jack) Fugate, Lance (Diane) Mitchell, Jeff (Lisa) Mitchell, and Greg (Hugh Tomlinson) Mitchell; 14 grandchildren, Heather (Jonathan) Sims, James Mitchell; Kim Mitchell, Ben (Tina) Mitchell, Robert Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Jennifer (Brett) Pothoof, Natasha (Mike) Nelson, Cain Williams, Amy (Devon) Nace, Jeffery Mitchell, Eric King, Adam Saed, and Nathan Saed; great-grandchildren, Deanna Mitchell, Collin Mitchell, Jayden Pothoof, Ryan Pothoof, Quentin Nace, and Kobe Nace and soon expecting two special great-granddaughters, Clarissa Sims and Alanna Nelson; two nieces; and a special granddog “Fanny.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob H. Mitchell; two grandchildren, Jonathan Mitchell & Hilary (Mike) Flower; parents, Raymond and Elva Thomas; and one brother, Earl Thomas.
According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service was held Monday, July 22nd at the Springport VFW 6056 Hall, with Rev. Jack Fugate officiating. Those who wish may make contributions to the charity of one’s choice.
Abby S. Monroe
Abby Sue Monroe, infant daughter of Joe and Ashley (Deater) Monroe of Bellevue, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002.
She is survived by her parents; brother, Kaden; grandparents, Danny Deater, and Robin and Mark Wiers, all of Bellevue, and Richard Monroe of Charlotte; great-grandparents, Barb and Tary White of Bellevue, Ken and Judy Deater of Fremont, Shirley Casler of Charlotte, Sam Monroe of DeWitt and Nancy Wiers of Bellevue.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Lori Monroe in 1992.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Randy Royston officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Dimondale.
