Louis E. McGee
Louis E. “Mike” McGee, 75, of Charlotte, died Jan. 2, 2002.
Mr. McGee was born July 13, 1926 in Northville, the son of Leland and Clara McGee. He was a TSgt in the U.S. Air Force for 25 years, serving during three wars before retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda Jean (Dean); sons, James Michael of Casco, Maine, and Joseph Randall of Petoskey; daughter, Janice Marie (McGee) (Thomas) Newhouse of DeWitt; grandchildren, Charlie McGee, Jason McGee and Rachelle Weaver; brother, Robert (Deloris) and sister, Mary Ann (Arnold) Seigel; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass was celebrated Jan. 5 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Charlotte, with Rev. Father Denis Spitzley officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan, Inc.; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Edward P. McKinstry
Edward Potter McKinstry, 86, of Hastings, died Aug. 5, 2002.
Mr. McKinstry was born April 21, 1916, the son of Vern and Katherine Potter. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and completed 10 years of serving his country. He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed bowling and golf for many years. Mr. McKinstry had been a civil engineer with the city of Lansing for 15 years, retiring in 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Gail (Cliff) Perkins of Dimondale; two sons, James (Janet) of Hastings and Ronald of Mason; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Dohr of Portland.
Memorial services were held Aug. 9 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor C. Greene officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
Iris Ann McPhall
Iris Ann McPhall, age 65 of DeWitt and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, January 31, 2002 at a Lansing hospital. She was born April 12, 1936 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Fred and Geneva (Wilkins) Michael. Iris was a retired Postal Clerk for the U.S. Government, serving over 30 years, with many of them at the Eaton Rapids Branch. She was preceded in death by 3 children, Brent McPhall, Sheryl Imler and Scott McPhall; brothers, Marvin & Fred Michael; sister, Hilda Thomas.
Surviving are 3 children, Alan (Susanne) McPhall of Bath, Randy McPhall of Whitman, AZ and Connie McPhall of Stockbridge; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn (Durwood) Sickels of Fremont, IN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 4th, from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial followed in the Rosehill Cemetery. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of Iris A. McPhall.
John Russell McQuay
John R. McQuay, age 31 of Eaton Rapids and formerly of Lansing, died Sunday, October 20, 2002 in Onondaga Township, as a result of an automobile accident. He was born May 28, 1971 in Lansing, the son of Russell and Linda (Adkins) McQuay. John was employed with U.S.A. Clean Team and enjoyed his music and was an avid watcher of World Wrestling Federation.
Surviving are his wife of 7 ½ years Tami (Olney) of Eaton Rapids; 3 children, Tyler, Rebecca and Corey; parents, Russell and Linda McQuay of Lansing; brother, Richard (Valerie) McQuay of Lansing; grandparents, Richard & Lorraine Adkins of Arizona; niece and nephew, Julia and Robert Cooper; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 23, 2002 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Frank Klassen of the Eaton Rapids Wesleyan Church, officiating. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund for the children, in care of Tami McQuay.
Marilyn E. Manicom
Marilyn E. Manicom, 78, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002 at Eaton County Medical Care Facility after a long illness.
Mrs. Manicom was born Nov. 13, 1923 in Charlotte, the daughter of Allen and Pearl (Parsons) Orr, and lived most of her life in Charlotte. She was a 1941 graduate of Charlotte High School and had been employed at Young’s Jewelry Store in Charlotte, from where she retired. She was a member Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by her children, A. Dale (Norma Santa Cruz) Manicom of San Diego, Calif., Diana Lenahan of Fredericksburg, Va., and Delsa (James) Joppie of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Michele Ducharme, Kelly Lenahan and Sean Lenahan; two great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Beverly) Orr of East Tawas; and sister-in-law, Jayne Orr of Nashville, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Manicom, and a brother, Carrol Orr.
Funeral services were held Aug. 12 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel in Charlotte, with Rev. Karen Wheat officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital.
Ross J. Markle
Ross J. Markle, 81, of Charlotte, died Monday, March 11, 2002 at Thornapple Manor in Hastings. Mr. Markle was born March 9, 1921 in Bad Axe, the son of Wallace and Katherine (Graham) Markle. He attended area schools and graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1938. After graduation he began a career as a bus driver for Indian Trails. After his retirement form bus driving he moved to Arizona, where he married Marjorie Graham in 1987 in Bullhead City, Ariz. They moved back to the Charlotte area in 1996. Mr. Markle enjoyed golf, fishing, walking the dogs, driving bus and being a driver for the Amish in the area. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Markle of Charlotte; son, David (Faith) of Hartsville, S.C.; daughters, Megan Markle and Trudy Arrigoni, both of San Francisco, Calif.; sister, Pauline Houston of Port Huron; stepson, William (Donna) Hess of Charlotte; stepdaughter, Robin (Bob) Keech of Lakeview; and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Katherine (Graham) Markle; sister, Irene; and brothers, Ray and Earl. Memorial services were held March 16 at Nashville Baptist Church, with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Nashville Baptist Church. Arrangements were by Maple Valley Chapel in Nashville.
John R. Matthews
John Robert Matthews, 63, of Grand Ledge, passed away July 11, 2002.
Mr. Matthews was born May 7, 1939. He was a 1957 East Lansing graduate and received a master’s degree from Michigan State University. He worked for the state of Michigan Department of Public Health. In 1970 Mr. Matthews taught school for Charlotte Public Schools, from which he retired in 1995. He was also a driver’s education instructor for numerous school districts. He enjoyed most sports, and his farm, and loved people and doing things for others.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Shirley; son, Seth of Sunfield; daughter, Amber of Grand Ledge; and his beloved pet, Willie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Louise (Brown) Matthews in 1998.
Memorial services were held July 20 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Lansing, with Father David Pike officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. David’s Episcopal Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements were by Peters & Murray Funeral Home in Grand Ledge.
Thelma Mayne
Thelma Madaline Mayne, 94, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002. Mrs. Mayne was born July 13, 1908, in Charlotte, the daughter of Fred L. and Emma (Shaw) Hall.
She is survived by son, Dennis (Marian) Mayne of Charlotte, five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer Mayne in 1984 and three sons, Jimmy, Edward and Donald.
Graveside services were held Nov. 23, 2002 at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte with Rev. Richard Wilford officiating.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Meadowview School/Eaton Intermediate School District where Thelma was a volunteer grandmother for many years.
Edna I. Meeder
Edna Ines Meeder, 94, of Potterville and Battle Creek, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002.
Mrs. Meeder was born Dec. 24, 1907 in Shepherd, the daughter of Ladd and Laura (Stuart) Fenby. She was a registered nurse at Hayes Green Beach Hospital in Charlotte, a secretary for Potterville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two grandsons, Leslie Frye of Battle Creek, and Thomas and his wife Nola Frye of Battle Creek; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marian Howell of Zephyr Hills, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don Meeder in 1978, daughter Kaye in 1999, grandson Donald in 1986 and son-in-law Louis in 1999.
Services were held Jan. 11 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.
