Joan M. Loughan
Joan M. Loughan, 71, of Charlotte, died Friday, March 8, 2002.
She was born Aug. 25, 1930, the daughter of Walter and Keitha (Silver) Ball. She was an avid Dale Earnhardt and auto racing fan, enjoyed bingo and watching wild animals. She had been an inspector at Owens Illinois for 25 years.
She is survived by sons, Dan (Debra) Loughan of Charlotte and Michael Loughan of Mason; daughters, Cindy Logan and husband Lyle Thompson of Charlotte, and Kathy Terrill of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and sisters, Barbara Cross of Pentwater and Marian (Chuck) Weaver of Charlotte.
She was preceded in death by son-in-law, Allen; and long-time companion, Dennis Miller.
Funeral services were held March 12 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital for a dialysis unit.
Lucille Love
Lucille Love, 80, of Bellevue, died Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002 at Battle Creek Health System.
Mrs. Love was born March 2, 1922 in Bellevue, the daughter of Oscar and Leona (Terwilliger) Pierce. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1940 and married Wilber Love in 1940; he died March 4, 1957. Mrs. Love was employed for many years as a cafeteria worker at Bellevue High School, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed reading, shopping and making Christmas candies.
Surviving are daughters, Ione Love, Iris (John) Huggett and Lois Love, all of Bellevue, and Beth Thornton of Nashville; son, Roger (Sheila) Love of Bellevue; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Roy Pierce of Marcellus, Robert Pierce of Battle Creek, James Mark Pierce of Nashville, and Dwight Pierce of Charlotte; and a sister, Betty Seume of Irons.
She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Foye, Milo and Gordon Pierce; and a grandson, R. Alan Love Jr. in 2000.
Family services were held Dec. 31 at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue, with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery.

Evelyn J. Lovell
Evelyn June Lovell, 83, of Houghton Lake, formerly of Houghton/Hancock, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002 in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Mrs. Lovell was born March 5, 1919 in Houghton, the daughter of Chester and Grace (Marlor) Karr. She married Ellis Ray Lovell of Vermontville on June 17, 1942.
She is survived by daughters Judy (Larry) Swartz of Port St. Lucia, Fla. and Jeanne (Richard) Pray of Ann Arbor; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; brother, Nathan Karr of Hancock; brother-in-law, Gordon Lovell of Lake; and sister-in-law, Ruth Wright of Potterville.
She was preceded in death by husband Ellis in November 1991.
Funeral services were held Sept. 6 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Pastor Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Parkinson Foundation or American Lung Association.
Gary Allen McConnell
Gary A. McConnell, age 51 of Lansing and formerly of Onondaga, died Sunday, June 2, 2002. He was born December 12, 1950 in Jackson, the son of Leland and Doris (Dowding) McConnell. Gary was a graduate of Springport High School, class of 1969. He was a manager of Michigan Highway Signs, Inc. of Holt with 32 years of service. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother-in-law, Robert Magiera and step-mother, Helen (Thomas) McConnell.
Surviving are a brother, Douglas McConnell; 2 sisters, Vickie Magiera and Verna (Walter) Smith all of Onondaga; nieces and nephews, Gerald P. Magiera, Robert (Laura) Magiera Jr., Anthony J. (Theresa) Magiera, Tammie (Thomas) Oates, Teresa (Marc) Heisler; great nieces and nephews, Alexandra, Jacob, Kiel, Taylor, Alyssa and Madelyn; aunt, Bethel Esch; and many special friends.
Memorial services were held on Friday, June 7, 2002 from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Robert Betts officiating. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Gary A. McConnell.
Gertrude L. McConnell
Gertrude L. (Reams) McConnell, 88 of Charlotte, formerly of Olivet, died Friday, July 12, 2002 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility.
Mrs. McConnell was born June 22, 1914 in Bellevue, the daughter of John and Millie (Hamilton) Reams and was a life-long Eaton County resident. She was a 1931 graduate of Bellevue High School, a member of Charlotte Rebekah Lodge #68, and a member of Bellevue United Methodist Church where she had been a member since 1925.
She is survived by five daughters, Virginia (Pastor Robert) O’Kane of Rowland, Calif., Joyce (Arthur) Black of Burlington, Gladys (John) Rose of Olivet, Rosemary (Earl) Wood of Charlotte and Darlene (Don) Davis of Potterville; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Ada Whipple of Sacramento, Calif., Ruth Harden of Battle Creek and Rachel Hebner of Dimondale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Harold McConnell in 1994; and brothers, Lee Reams and Robert Reams.
Funeral services were held July 17 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel in Charlotte, with Pastor Wendell Stine, Pastor Robert O’Kane and Charlotte Rebekah Lodge #68 officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery in Olivet.

Gabriel M. McDaniel
Gabriel Malachi McDaniel, infant son of Christopher and Stacey McDaniel of Charlotte, died at birth Aug. 3, 2002 at Sparrow Hospital.
He was preceded in death by grandfather Dennis McDaniel in 1993 and great-grandfathers Frank Maynard in 2000 and Nathan McDaniel in 1994.
He is survived by his parents; brother Logan; sisters, Kelsey, Bailey and Avery; grandparents Bob and Cheryl Snyder, Clark Gidner, and Jill Gidner, all of Charlotte; and great-grandparents Jerry and Barb Gibbs of Okemos, Phyllis McDaniel of Eaton Rapids, and Dawn Maynard of Potterville.
Cremation has occurred.
Donations in Gabriel’s name, if desired, may be made to West Windsor United Brethren Church in Dimondale or Sparrow Hospital.
Frances A. MacDonald
Frances A. MacDonald, 89, of Freeport, formerly of Charlotte and Vermontville, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2002 at the home of her daughter-in-law, of natural causes.
Mrs. MacDonald was born May 28, 1913 in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of J. Milton and Adella (Loomis) Lent. She spent her youth between Chicago and Vermontville, graduating from Vermontville in 1930. She married Vernon MacDonald of Chicago in 1933, and the family moved from Chicago to her family farm in rural Vermontville in 1946. After the passing of her husband in 1985, Mrs. MacDonald moved to Charlotte. She spent 27 years being a snow bird at Ramblers Rest Resort in Venice, Fla., either with Vernon or friends/companion Claude Troyer. She was a past matron and life member of Kalamo OES #399, a long-time member of Vermontville First Congregational Church, the Ladies Christian Association and Women’s Club, and was active in many other organizations (Band Boosters, Bismark Community Boosters, Bismark Ladies Fellowship, etc.) over the years.
She is survived by two sons, Bryce (Amanda) of Vermontville and Larry of Clearwater, Fla.; two daughters-in-law, Kate MacDonald of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Susan MacDonald of Freeport; six grandchildren, Nika (Randy) Hankins, JoDee (Tony) Pruden, Kent (Teresa) MacDonald, all of Charlotte, Kelly (Scott) Hartman of Lansing, Jason and Rachel MacDonald of Pinellas Park; two step-grandsons, David MacDonald of Chicago, Ill. and Terry Lee Ranshaw of Charlotte; eight great-grandchildren, Cassandra, Mark, Padraic, Heather, Gregory, Dallas, Haley and Meira; a step-great-grandchild, Kristin; and one great-great-grandchild, Jeffery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, husband Vernon in October 1985, and youngest son Scott in December 1999.
An Order of Eastern Star memorial services was held July 24 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, under the auspices of Kalamo Eastern Star Lodge #399. Funeral services were held July 25 at Vermontville Congregational Church, with Rev. Eric Lison officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Vermontville.

Velma L. McElvaine
Velma L. McElvaine, 85, of Clarksville, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002 at Tendercare in Hastings.
She is survived by sons, Richard (Vicki) McElvaine of Saranac and Floyd (Marva) McElvaine Jr. of Parker, Colo.; daughter, Penny (Peter) Hoffman of Diablo, Ariz.; brother, Ray Joppie of Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd McElvaine on July 5, 1984, and a son, Gerald McElvaine in 1974.
Graveside services were held Aug. 16 at Lakeview Cemetery in Nashville, with Pastor Rich Wollan officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Barry Community Hospice. Arrangements were by Maple Valley Chapel in Nashville.
