William J. Ackley
William Joseph Ackley, 44, of Haslett, formerly of Lansing, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001 after a long struggle with diabetes.
Mr. Ackley was born Feb. 17, 1957 in Lansing, the son of Harry and Jessie (Grandmason) Ackley. He was a press operator for Eaton Technologies in Eaton Rapids, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and loved to play the guitar.
He is survived by son, Christopher (Paula) Ackley of Charlotte; daughter, Bethany Ackley of Muskegon; grandchildren, William and Adriana Ackley; and sisters, Karen (Jack) Faught of Charlotte and Pam Pearson of Lansing.
Funeral services were held Nov. 15 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Kalamo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Owen Clifford Adams
Owen Clifford Adams, age 81 of Springport, died Wednesday, March 28, 2001. Owen was born August 7, 1919 in Springport Township the son of Don Oscar and Flossie May (Shorter) Adams. Mr. Adams was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army and was employed with Albion Malleable. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen and 2 sons, Dale and Harold.
Surviving are 4 daughter, Beverly E. (Tom) Shong of Rives Junction, Alice E. (Roy) Robinson of Texas, Margaret E. (Jon) Heflin of Springport, Sharon K. (Hank) Hoover of DeWitt; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and 1 sister, Donna Schultz of Springport.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 31, at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Bob Doner officiating. Interment followed at Pope Church Cemetery, Those desiring may make contributions to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center Foundation in memory of Owen C. Adams.
Betty A. Albrecht
Betty Ann Albrecht, 68, of Bellevue, died Dec. 18, 2001 at Battle Creek Health System.
Mrs. Albrecht was born April 26, 1933 to Albert and Elizabeth (Sleeper) Fleming in Battle Creek. She graduated from Climax High School and worked in the accounting department for American Marsha Pumps for several years. She married James Albrecht on Aug. 31, 1957; he survives. She and her husband delivered the Battle Creek Enquirer on a motor route for over 10 years.
She is survived by daughter, Christine Albrecht of Marshall; grandsons, Jesse Albrecht and Dylan Albrecht-Cook of Marshall; one great-grandson, Anthony Albrecht of Marshall; and brother, Charles Fleming of Climax.
Graveside services were held Dec. 21 at Austin Cemetery, Convis Township, with Pastor Herbert Rayburn of Dexter Lake Church officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the family. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Dorothy Allen
Dorothy (Lux) Allen, 81, of Eaton Rapids, formerly of Charlotte, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001 at her residence after an extended illness.
Mrs. Allen was born Aug. 2, 1920 in Marshall, the daughter of Harry and May Bayley, and had been a resident of the Eaton Rapids / Charlotte area since 1956. She was a 1938 graduate of Marshall High School, a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Charlotte and a former member of the Rebekahs.
She is survived by her children, Lynne (Bob) Kimmel, Richard Lux and Barbara (Garry) Bruce, all of Charlotte, and Robert (Jo Hall) Lux of Grand Ledge; step-children, Bruce (Kathy) Allen and Judy (Carl) Pearson, both of Florida, and Barbara Allen of Illinois; eight grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brother, George “Bud” Bayley of Marshall; and sister, Pauline Smee of Kentucky.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Donald Lux in 1965 and Lyle Allen in 2000.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Carol Spangenberg of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Barry-Eaton Health Department Hospice. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Patty D. Allen
Patty Dale Allen, 57, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001.
Mrs. Allen was born July 3, 1944, in Charlotte, the daughter of Eldon Stahr and Helen Powers Stahr. She was a general operator for Tenneco Automotive, and a member of the Grace Community Church in Nashville.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce Allen; daughter, Cheril (Michael) Smith of Charlotte; son, Steven Steward of Vermontville; stepson, Clayton Allen of Potterville; three grandchildren, Robert, Carson and Kirsten Dalelynne; brother, Randy (Gloria) Rolfe of Charlotte; sisters, Dixie (Edwin) Collier of Olivet; father, Eldon Stahr of Kalamo; father-in-law, Karl (B.J.) Allen of Florida; and sister-in-law, Susan Allen of California.
Funeral services were held Aug. 29 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Don Roscoe officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Community Church Building Fund; envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Phyllis L. Allerding
Phyllis Lee Allerding, 68, of Cadillac, formerly of Hasting, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at Mercy Hospital in Cadillac.
Mrs. Allerding was born July 25, 1933 in Hastings, the daughter of Glendon and Margaret (Barnhart) Silsbee.
She graduated from Hastings High School in 1951, and married Theodore Dec. 21, 1957.
She worked for Hastings Manufacturing Co., Ben Franklin Store, managed 1 hr. Martinizing, and worked for Baby Bliss in Nashville and Middleville for 22 years, retiring in 1988. She loved to sew, crochet and gardening.
She is survived by her husband, Ted Allerding of Cadillac; daughters, Phyllis (Jack) Dawson of Cadillac, Teddy (John) Lancaster of Hastings, Ruby (Steve) Heinrich of Jessup, Pa., Gerrie Cochran of Hastings, Jackie (Jim) Lancaster; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; half brother, Pete Silsbee of Hastings; sister-in-law, Virginia Silsbee of Hastings; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by brother, Russell Silsbee, and a sister, Roberta Silsbee.
Funeral services were held Dec. 12 at Girrbach Funeral Home, Hastings, with Rev. Alvin Yates officiating. Interment was at Fuller Cemetery.

Millie N. Ambler
Millie Ambler, 88, formerly of Charlotte, died Feb. 9, 2001 at the home of Judy and Dave in Corrales N.M. after suffering a stroke from which she did not recover. She was surrounded by family, including a special nephew, Layle Smith of Ewing, N.J.
Mrs. Ambler was born Mildred Naomi House on June 29, 1912, the daughter of Henry and Mary Ellen House of Farwell. She was one of ten children, only one of whom – June Jones Fairview – survives. She graduated from Central Michigan University with honors and later received a master’s degree from Michigan State University. In 1931 she married Walter Thurow of Scottville, and their careers in agriculture and education took them to Fairview and Copemish, as well as to Charlotte and Au Gres. The couple had four children, the first of whom, Virginia, died at birth. In Charlotte, Mrs. Ambler taught seventh grade, and in Au Gres she taught math, science and journalism. She later moved back to the Charlotte Public School System to become a high school counselor. She retired in 1972 and married Fred Ambler of Brooklyn. The couple split their time between Michigan and Florida for several years until moving permanently to Venice, Fla., in 1982. Fred died in 1990, and in 1999, Mrs. Ambler moved to New Mexico where she lived independently until the last week of her life.
She is survived by countless relatives who live throughout the United States.
Cremation has taken place and the ashes will be scattered by her children. Friends and family of Mrs. Ambler are invited to share in a memorial celebration of her life Sunday, Aug. 12 at 2 p.m. at the home of her daughter, Sue Miller of Ovid. Co-hosting will be Millie’s other children and their spouses including Judy Anderson, John and Joanne Thurow, Willard Verdun and Dave Goldstein. Bettie M. Ammerman
Bettie Mae Ammerman, 79, of Bellevue, formerly of Toledo, died Dec. 16, 2001 at home.
Mrs. Ammerman was born Aug. 26, 1922, the daughter of Pearl and Marie (Houseman) Hogston in Van Buren, Ind. She worked as a waitress in restaurants in Toledo, and married Robert Ammerman in 1960; he died in June 2000. She is survived by daughters, Sandra Hawkins of Bellevue, Connie St. John of Muncie, Ind., and Patricia Crampton of Florida; and four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
No services will be held. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Timothy J. Ammon
Timothy J. Ammon, 28, of Charlotte, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001. Mr. Ammon was born May 17, 1973 in Lansing, the son of David and Donna (Randell) Ammon, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a 1991 graduate of Charlotte High School and had attended Lansing Community College and Saginaw Valley State University. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed mechanical things, studying the Bible and his Christian faith. He was employed as a truck driver for CCX of Mason. He is survived by his parents, David and Donna (Randell) Ammon of Charlotte; brother, James Ammon of Lansing; grandparents, Jacob and June Randell of Washington; aunt and uncles, Martha and Ray Lawrence of Charlotte, Roberta Johnson of Arizona, Gary and Patsy LaBree, Tim and Kathy Randell, and Joe and Joanie Randell, all of Washington. Funeral services were held Dec. 1 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Jerry Slivensky officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
