A. Dale Baum
A. Dale Baum, 90, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 in Lady Lake Specialty Care Nursing Home, Lady Lake, Fla.
Mr. Baum was born Oct. 31, 1910 in Walton Township, Eaton County, the son of Andrew and Etta (Eaton) Baum and lived most of his life in Charlotte prior to moving to Florida in 1989. He graduated from Charlotte High School and owned and operated Baum’s Standard Service Station in Charlotte for 46 years. He served as a bailiff in the Eaton County court system. He was a life member of Charlotte Lodge #120 F.&A.M and the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church. He is survived by daughter, Phyllis (Walt) Deuster of Lady Lake, Fla.; son, Jerry (Diane) Baum of Charlotte; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Magdalen (Campbell) Baum on April 6, 2001; brother, Charles Baum; and sisters, Esther Williams and Addie King.
Funeral services were held Nov. 1 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church or Charlotte Lodge #120 F.&A.M Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte.
Magdalen K. Baum
Magdalen K. (Campbell) Baum, 87, of Summerfield, Fla., formerly of Charlotte, died Friday, April 6, 2001 in the Lady Lake Specialty Care Nursing Home in Lady Lake, Fla.
Mrs. Baum was born April 28, 1913 in Jackson, the daughter of Clayton and Martha (Jantzen) Campbell and lived most of her life in Charlotte prior to moving to Florida ion 1989. She was a graduate of Charlotte High School, attended Eaton County Normal, and taught school for a short time in the rural school system in the Charlotte area. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and the Charlotte Order of Eastern Star #218.
She is survived by her husband, A. Dale Baum; daughter, Phyllis (Walt) Deuster of Lady Lake, Fla.; son, Jerry (Diane) Baum of Charlotte; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; and two nieces.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Baribeau, and a brother, Kent Campbell.
Funeral services were held April 11 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church.

Reva Baxter
Reva (Boyer) Baxter, 96, of Grand Ledge, passed away May 5, 2001 in her home.
Mrs. Baxter was born March 21, 1905 in Roxand Township, the daughter of Owen and Bertha (Earl) Boyer. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Grand Ledge, the Blue Star Mothers, Grand Ledge “Ledges Livlies,” Grand Ledge Senior Center, Retired Seniors Volunteer Program, and the Evening Belle’s Circle.
She is survived by her daughters, Norma Marshall of Portland, Ore., and Carolee (Gary) Hart of Grand Ledge; sons, Vaughn (Harriet), Stanley and Larry, all of Grand Ledge; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; brother, Herman (Bea) Boyer; sister-in-law, Florence (Bob) Frayer; brother-in-law, Al Boucher; cousin, Doris Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Lyle; grandson, David; sisters, Leta Boucher and Betty Boyer; and son-in-law, Albert Marshall.
Funeral services were held May 9 at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Rev. John Baumgartner and Pastor Douglas Marshall (grandson) officiating. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge.

Joanie Beckwith
Joanie Beckwith, age 66 of Parrish, Florida, passed Thursday, July 26, 2001 peacefully at home. She was born January 17, 1935, the daughter of Andrew and Stacia Frink. She retired from the Michigan State Police after 15 years of services and was owner of First Corporate Air Private Charter Company of Michigan. She was a member of Church on the Rock, National Rifle Association, Aircraft Pilot and owners Association, and was a certified private pilot. Joanie enjoyed life to its fullest, including flying, fast cars, adventure and a great appreciation of jazz music. She leaves behind many dear friends associated with each of these passions.
Preceded in death by eldest son, Robert Allen Mitchell, she is survived by son, Garrison (Wendy) Mitchell and children Terra, Matthew, Chad and Dylan of Onondaga; daughter Kathleen Hackney of Florida; grandsons, Theodore and Ian Hackney of California; granddaughter Jennifer Mitchell of Lansing; many brothers and sisters, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed, but remembered by her beauty, smile, big heart and the hugs she gave so freely.

Doris J. Beers
Doris J. Beers, 64, of Bellevue, died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at Battle Creek Health System.
Mrs. Beers was born Nov. 29, 1937 in Beechbluff, Tenn., the daughter of Samuel and Clemie Mae (Walker) Mattox. She was employed by several area restaurants, including the Hillcrest Restaurant in Marshall and the Tekon Restaurant in Tekonsha. She owned and operated the Country Style Restaurant in Bellevue from 1986 to 1992. Mrs. Beers enjoyed fishing, gambling, collecting knick-knacks, cooking, and especially Christmas time. She married Harold Beers on May 16, 1970; he survives.
She is survived by son, Robert (Vera) Beers of Olivet and Jodi (Trevor) Madry of Convis Township; two grandchildren; and brother, Robert Mattox of Mason.
She was preceded in death by a brother and five sisters.
Memorial services were held Dec. 13 at Olivet Assembly of God, with Pastor Doug Hammond officiating.

Helen Louise Belfiori
Helen Louise Belfiori, age 69 of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, April 27, 2001 in Eaton Rapids. She was born October 4, 1931 in Detroit, the daughter of George Anthony and Ethel Sarah Jane (Boden) Palmer. Helen’s family was her life and she opened her heart to others through volunteering with the Foster Grandparents Program. Knowingly, Helen entered into an Alzheimers Research Study (the Galantamine Study approved in March 2001 for Public use) for the benefit of others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph F. Belfiori, brother, John Palmer and her daughter, Evelyn Ruth Belfiori.
Surviving are her 6 children, Joseph Belfiori of Eaton Rapids, Valerie (Thomas) Kunkel of Eaton Rapids, Maria (Paul) Clos of White Lake Twp., Carl Belfiori II of Ionia, Louise (Eric) Ahlteen of Galena, Ohio, Gina Belfiori of Eaton Rapids; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey Belfiori, Ian and Helen Kunkel, Amy Thickston, Cherie Scalf and Paul Clos, Jr., Brandon Walley and Chelsea, Carl and Benjamin Ahlteen, Dolan J. Walters and Evelyn Streeter; 6 great-grandchildren, Zachary, Alex, Bryant, Rebecca, Emily and David Paul; Brother, George (Sylvia) Palmer of Utica; 4 sisters, Evelyn Giordano of Detroit, Ruth Jester of Detroit, Katherine Bersine of Center Line, Louise (Louis) DeSanctis of Warren; sister-in-law, Victoria (Sam) Salomon of Warren; brother-in-law, Carl J. Belfiori of Sterling Heights and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
John W. Bellows
John W. Bellows passed away September 25, 2001 in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Topeka, Kansas where he had been a patient for several months. John graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1966, and soon after enlisted in the U.S. Army. After duty in Vietnam and being honorably discharged from the army, he became a F.A.A. licensed mechanic to work on jet aircraft engines. John worked in the airline’s repair hangar in Phoenix, Arizona for many years. He loved to hunt and fish whenever he could.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja, son Andrew and daughter Ami all of Copan, Oklahoma; parents Harry Bellows of Eaton Rapids and Audrey Bellows of Cottonwood AZ; brother Greg Bellows of Eaton Rapids; sister Jenny Bellows of Cottonwood, AZ.
John E. Bemis
John E. Bemis, 64, of Owosso died Jan. 19, 2001 in Pittsburg, Penn.
Mr. Bemis was born Feb. 18, 1936, in Detroit, the son of Carleton and Iva (Nash) Bemis. He married Carol Stradtner on Aug. 3, 1957 in Lansing. He was a member of the First Church of God. He was an Eagle Scout, Past Master of Owosso Lodge F&AM, an Ambassador to Promise Keepers, and Past Patron of Owosso Chapter #206, OES. He retired from the US Post Office in Lansing after 28 years of service.
He is survived by his wife Carol; three daughters, Gayle (Michael) Smith of Charlotte, Lucille (Richard) Yancey of Elizabeth Town, Ken., and Karen (Scott) Case of Owosso; nine grandchildren; his mother, Iva Bemis of Southgate; a sister, Lois (A.D.) O’Connor of Alaska; two brothers, Robert (Virginia) of Ashland, Ohio, and David (Susan) of Southgate; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Carleton.
Memorial services will be held at First Church of God on Jan. 27 at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Miller officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Irel R. Berryhill
Irel R. Berryhill, 64, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001.
Mr. Berryhill was born May 25, 1937 in Detroit. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing, and classic cars. He was a member of South Baptist Church of Lansing.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; son, John (Seung) Berryhill of Lapeer; daughters, Johana (David) Breaun of East Pointe and Sarah (Robert) Clair of Sterling Heights; several grandchildren; brother, Richard Berryhill; and sister-in-law, Sally Leavy of Peoria, Ill.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eric in 1984.
Funeral services were held Sept. 24 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor David Brooks officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
