Phyllis Bridges

Phyllis Bridges, 72, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001.

Mrs. Bridges was born June 14, 1929 in Mulliken, the daughter of Phillip and Vera (Harrod) Hosey. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church and worked as a unit clerk at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by daughters, Vickie (Richard) Czech of Ionia, Shelia (Richard) Stank of Lake Odessa and Dianna (Keith) Cooke of Atoka, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Harrod (Phyllis) Hosey and Eldon (Joann) Hosey of Grand Ledge, Archie (Florence) Hosey and Hal Hosey of Charlotte, and Stan (Darlene) Hosey of Vermontville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Scott Bridges, and sons, Bruce and Bill McDiarmid, all in 1978; brother, Pat Hosey; and her dachshund, Peanut.

Funeral services were held Oct. 13 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Noel Hall-Niemann officiating.

Interment was at Sunfield Cemetery, Sunfield. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Darlene A. Briskie

Darlene A. Briskie, 61, of Olivet, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2001 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility in Charlotte.

Mrs. Briskie was born Jan. 16, 1940 in Grand Ledge, the daughter of Oscar and Helen (Worden) Frank and had been an Olivet resident since 1959. She was a 1957 graduate of Grand Ledge High School, an Avon representative and a member of its Presidents Club, and had served as chairperson of the Electoral Board in Olivet.

She is survived by two sons, Donn (Cindy) Briskie of Jackson and David (Tami) Briskie of Olivet; one daughter, Dana (Rick) Holland of Olivet; five grandchildren, Tyler Briskie, Cody Briskie, Zachery Holland, Bobby Thomas and Linda Holland; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, John (Collette) Frank of Charlotte.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Briskie on Aug. 3, 1994.

Funeral services were held Sept. 6 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Todd McLane officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sclero-Derma Foundation or the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Grace M. Brooks

Grace M. Brooks, 88, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001.

Miss Brooks was born Feb. 26, 1912 in Eaton County, the daughter of Homer and Mona (Stamn) Brooks. She was a retired foster care worker.

Surviving are six nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-niece and caregiver, Sherri Crandell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Brooks; two sisters, Frances Griffin and Helen Fast.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Jan. 19, 2001 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Arrangements by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Hazel M. Brown

Hazel M. (Stauffer) Brown, 75, died Thursday Aug. 2, 2001 at Spectrum Health Kent Community Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Mrs. Brown was born May 5, 1926, and graduated from Hastings High School in 1945. She married Harry S. Brown Jr. on Nov. 28, 1951.

She is survived by a daughter, Christy (Brown, Schantz) Newland of Potterville; three grandchildren, Michael Schantz, Levi (Tara) Schantz an Miriam (Todd) Raines, all of Nashville; and four great-grandchildren, Adam and Dillian Schantz, Jordan Raines and Andrew Cheeseman, all of Nashville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry on July 27, 1998; and a son, Harry III, on June 1, 1959.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held in spring 2002 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.

Louise E. Brown

Louise Ella Brown, 84, of Charlotte, died March 3, 2001.

Mrs. Brown was born April 14, 1916, in Eaton County, the daughter of Rex Bottomley and Ruth Bingham Bottomley.

She is survived by two sons, Robert (Susan) Brown of Charlotte and Dean (Shelia) Brown of Olivet; sister, Lucille Moore of Charlotte; 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Brown, and a son, Larry.

Funeral services were held March 7 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital.

Mervin Jesse Brown

Mervin J. Brown, age 70 of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at his residence. He was born January 14, 1931, the son of Rollin and Flossie (Campbell) Brown. Mr. Brown was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a retired Mechanic for Leeseway Trucking in Lansing and a member of the V.F.W. Post #701 in Lansing. Preceding him in death were his parents; twin brother, Martin and brother, Laurence.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Doreen; 6 children, Gordon Wilson of Eaton Rapids, Wendy (Bill) Clancy, Linda (Ivan) Diersen and Donette Samson all of Colorado Springs, CO, Mervin Brown Jr. of Lansing, and Kathie (Chuck) Hendrickson of Eaton Rapids; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; 5 brothers and sisters, Evelyn Swinford, Roland “Sonny” (Della) Brown, Basil (Jeanette) Brown and Donna (Marvin) Hall all of Lansing and Elsie (Hank) Raby of DeWitt; sister-in-law, Ann Brown of Lansing and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were Monday, June 25th from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Tom Evans of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial followed with full military honors provided by the V.F.W. Post #701 at the Munger Cemetery in rural Eaton Rapids.

William C. Brown

William C. Brown, 75, of Bellevue, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 at Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall.

Mr. Brown was born Oct. 11, 1925 in Battle Creek, the son of William C. and Alma (Fruin) Brown, and was a lifelong resident of the Bellevue area. He was a 1945 graduate of Bellevue High School, and had been employed as a machinist and inspector at Eaton Manufacturing, Battle Creek, retiring in 1981 after 32 years of service. He was also a part-time farmer all of his life. He was a past member of the Bellevue Historical Society and his special interests included antique tractor collecting, gardening and wildlife preservation.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia (Fox) Brown; one son, David (Susan Kay) Brown of Bellevue; one daughter, Margaret (Steve) Duff of Panama City Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and one sister, Enid Harrison of Battle Creek.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Brown.

At Mr. Brown’s request, cremation has taken place. Memorial graveside services were held Sept. 25 at Bell Cemetery, Assyria Township, Barry County, with Rev. Mark Thompson officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Kressa A. Brummette

Kressa A. Brummette, 97, of Charlotte, died June 24, 2001.

Mrs. Brummette was born Dec. 18, 1903 in Traverse City, the daughter of Charles and Minnie (Van Valkenburg) Calhoun. She was a member of the Charlotte Pentecostal Church of God and the Charlotte Area Senior Citizens. She married Earl Brummette, who preceded her in death Feb. 26, 1977.

She is survived by sons, Douglas (Joann) Brummette, Eddie (Marlene) Brummette, and Richard (Janet) Brummette, all of Charlotte; daughters, Barbara Bodell, Joy Hicks and Shirley (Richard) Crosslan, all of Charlotte, and Beverly Geiser of Phoenix, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren , and four great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, June Morse of Phoenix, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by son William in 1933.

Services were held June 27 at Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing, with Rev. Elbern Householder officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Eaton Community Hospice or Hayes Green Beach Home Health Care. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
