Milton E. Colburn
Milton E. Colburn, 56, of Lansing, died Saturday, March 17, 2001 in Kalkaska.
Mr. Colburn was born May 30, 1944 in Lansing, the son of Leland and Edith (Hill) Colburn. He was employed at BOC of Lansing as an electrician for more than 38 years, where he trained many electrical apprentices. He was also an avid snowmobiler and bowler.
He is survived by son, Tim of Potterville; daughter, Michelle Tyler of Charlotte; granddaughter, Ashley; grandsons, Andrew and Shelby James; brothers, James (Barbara) Colburn of Wacousta and Fred (Penny) Colburn of Potterville; sisters, Elma “Rusti” (Bill) Peters of Charlotte, Mabel (Mae) Martin and Betty Bush, both of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Robert Martin in Jan. 2000; brothers, Robert in 1985 and Albert in 1939; and a sister, Mary in 1929.
Funeral services were held April 5 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Lyle Heaton officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Lawrence “Larry” J. Conarton, Sr.
Lawrence “Larry” J. Conarton, Sr., age 64 of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, November 16, in Iosco County. Lawrence was born June 1, 1937 in Lansing. Larry was a retired accountant, served on the Eaton Rapids City Council and was an avid MSU Spartan fan.
Preceded in death by his father, Kyran C. Conarton, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Nadien (Haskin); 4 daughters, Gwendolyn Conarton of Lansing, April Conarton of Eaton Rapids, Renee (Carl) Richards of Holt, Amy Conarton of Florida; 3 sons, Lawrence (Patricia) Conarton, Jr. of Holt, Timothy C. Conarton of Eaton Rapids, Christopher (fiancée, Shelby Watts) Conarton of Florida; 7 grandchildren, Brian, Lawrence III, Charles, Timothy Jr. And Katie Conarton, Brenden and Jerika Richards; 1 great-granddaughter, Amber Conarton; mother, Gwendolyn M. (Porter) Conarton of Charlotte; 4 brothers, William (Judy) Conarton, Sr., K.C. (Sandy) Conarton both of Dimondale, David (Pauline) Conarton, Sr. of Lansing, John Conarton of DeWitt; 3 sisters, Barbara (John) Mahon of Onondaga, Susan Lemon of Dimondale Rebecca (John) Bell of Lansing; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2001, 4:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Bernice Mae Connor
Bernice Mae Connor, age 94 of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, June 24, 2001 at the Hospice House of Mid Michigan in Lansing. She was born August 19, 1906 in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of William E. and Fannie Mae (Compton) Douthit. Mrs. Connor was an active and devoted member of the First Congregational Church in Eaton Rapids. She was a former Sunday School Teacher, a teacher of Ceramics and a doll maker, and had formerly worked for the Horner Woolen Mills in Eaton Rapids. Preceding her in death were her husband Kenneth in 1978 and a daughter, Margaret Pfister.
Surviving are 3 children, 2 daughters, Mary A. (Norman) Burtraw of Lansing and Virginia M. (Frederick) Traill of Ovid; son, Kenneth W. (Bonnie) Connor of Eaton Rapids; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Harold) Johnson of Sullivan, Indianan; son-in-law, James Pfister of Potterville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 28th, at 11:30 a.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Dr. David D’Arcy of the First Congregational Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to the First Congregational Church in memory of Bernice Mae Connor.
Rev. James E. Cook
Rev. James E. Cook, age 71 of Lake Isabella, died Wednesday, December 21, 2001 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. He was born May 22, 1930 in Benton Harbor, MI to Emory N. and Rosa Hosbein Cook. He married Anne Gurr on June 28, 1958 in Benton Harbor and resided the last 6 years in Lake Isabella. Rev. Cook was a pastor for the United Methodist Church. He served 11 churches in the Western Michigan Conference: from 1982-1985 Burnips-Monterey Center United Methodist Church; 1985-1986 Dowling-Banfield United Methodist Church; 1986-1991 Fenwick-Vickeryville-Palo United Methodist Church; 1991-1995 Trinity-Countryside United Methodist Church; 2000-2001 Barryton-Chippewa Lake United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954. He was a member of the Western Michigan Conference, a former Sunrise Rotarian, a member of the Isabella County Soup Kitchen Board starting when the Kitchen moved to the Trinity UMC, and the Wesley Foundation board.
Rev. Cook is survived by his wife, Anne of Lake Isabella; children, James Cook of Traverse City, Cynthia (Rick) McClure of Eaton Rapids, and Marsha Cook of Milwaukie, OR; four grandchildren, Robert Grimes, Branden, Michael, and Christina McClure; four brothers, Charles (Nancy) Cook of Stevensville, Don (Debbie) Cook, and Ray Cook of Benton Harbor, and Tom (Joan) Cook of Holiday, Florida; and a sister, Donna Thomas of Benton Harbor. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Timothy; and one sister, Thelma.
Services were held Monday, December 17, 2001 at the Weidman United Methodist Church in Weidman with Rev. Craig Adams officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Paul D. Cooley, Jr.
Paul D. Cooley, Jr., age 19 of Perry, MI, died Wednesday, December 26, 2001 as the result of a snowmobile accident in Gaylord, MI. Paul was born September 3, 1982 in Eaton Rapids, the son of Paul Sr. and Vivian (Smith) Cooley. He graduated from Perry High School and attended the San Diego Golf Academy of Arizona. Paul resided most of his life in Perry and attended the Community Bible Church, Shaftsburg. His hobbies included playing golf, baseball and football.
Surviving are his mother, Vivian Kenney of Perry; father, Paul Sr. of Eaton Rapids; sisters, Renee Cooley and Katherine (Rick) Davis both of Eaton Rapids; brother, Scott (Jennifer) Freeburn of Perry; niece & nephew Brittani & Casey Jones; grandmother, Anita (Pat) Smith of Litchfield; and lots of aunts, uncles, cousins & friends. Paul was preceded by grandparents, Harry Jr. & Mable Cooley and Marion Smith and uncle, Tom Wilmer.
Funeral services will be held at the Watkins Brothers Funeral Home (Larowe Chapel) in Perry on Monday, December 31st at 11 a.m. with Pastor Herb Smith officiating. Robert “Bob” Coolidge
Robert “Bob” Coolidge, age 58 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, November 3, 2001 in Ishpeming, Michigan. Bob was born June 18, 1943. He served 4 years in the U.S. Navy. In 1998, Bob retired from G.M. and had continued consulting with them since them. He was an avid outdoorsman. Preceding him in death were his son, Brad, in 1970 and his mother, Florence (Meyer) in 1988.
He was a loving husband and father to his wife, Beverly, and children, Scott (Erica) Coolidge of Charlotte, Tim (Deana) Coolidge of Eaton Rapids, Craig (Michelle) Coolidge of Charlotte, Robert (Jamie) Coolidge of Ishpeming; proud grandfather to 6 grandchildren, Nick, Dylan, Nolan, Isaac, Madison, Morgan; also surviving are father, Marshall Coolidge of Higgins Lake; 2 brothers, Rick (Doris) Coolidge of Eaton Rapids, Tom (Sally) Coolidge of MN; 1 sister, Sandra (Bob) Pfaffenberger of TX.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2001 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Charlotte with Father Dennis Spitzley as celebrant. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday 2-4 & 6:30-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Rosary at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Casket bearers will be Rick Coolidge, Tom Coolidge, Bob Pfaffenberger, Jorge Ramirez, Ken Orr and Jerry Orr. Honorary bearers will be Nick Coolidge, Nolan Coolidge and Isaac Coolidge. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the St. Mary Catholic Church Building Fund or the Eaton Rapids Medical Center Foundation in memory of Bob Coolidge.
Duane Coon
Duane Coon, 57, of Charlotte died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001.
Mr. Coon was born Aug. 4, 1944 in Lakeview, the son of Neil and Burnetta (Gill). He was a driver for General Motors Company until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed many interests including drag racing, tractor pulls, and more recently, computers and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters, Dani (Leon) McAdams of Dewitt and Jenny Coon of Charlotte; son, Charles (Patti) Coon of Charlotte; granddaughters, Marcy and Keeley Coon; and his mother, Burnetta Coon of Lake Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neil, and a brother, Beryl Coon.
Funeral services were held Sept. 26 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Jerry Slivensky officiating.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Clyde W. Cooper
Clyde Ward Cooper, 90, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001.
Mr. Cooper was born April 24, 1911 in Battle Creek, the son of John and Clara (Ward) Cooper. He worked for Charlotte Auto Parts, was a cabinet maker for Charlotte Chair Company until his retirement in 1973, and was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church. He especially enjoyed his horses and ponies, and was involved with the Eaton County 4-H Fair for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gracelynna “Sally” (Ryan) Cooper; son, Robert of Charlotte; daughters, Barbara (David) Lahr of Charlotte and Joyce (Bill) Gavaldon of Potterville; seven grandchildren, Jon, Joe and Jim Pell, Derric and Darrin Harmon, Deena (Dan) Mahoney and Ryan Cooper; eight great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosa Potter of Charlotte and Helen Campbell of Florida.
Funeral services were held Dec. 18 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Pat Sterling officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church U.C.C. or Hayes Green Beach Hospital. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
David E. Corbin
David E. Corbin, age 76 of Kalamazoo and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, September 15, 2001 at his residence. He was born August 30, 1925 in Eaton Rapids, the son of LeRoy and Minnie (Perkins) Corbin. Dave was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate class of 1943 and a graduate of Western Michigan University Class of 1956. Dave served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, he was an aerial gunner for the B-17 Liberator Bomber and a former prisoner of war. Dave owned and operated Daves Tree Service in Kalamazoo for over 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Dion Corbin.
Surviving are 2 sisters, Carol Hector of Springport and Hanna Beth Hunter of Napoleon, MI; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 20th at 1:30 p.m. from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Tom Evans of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors provided by the Harold Teeter Post #15 at the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m.
