Marvin Davis
Marvin Davis, 61, of Mulliken, Michigan died Tuesday, September 18, 2001.
Mr. Davis was born May 11, 1940, in Charlotte, the son of Warren and Esther (McCormick) Davis. He was a machine repairman for BOC in Lansing, an avid deer and game hunter and a solid supporter of the NRA.
He is survived by his wife Mary (Brandt), daughter, Kelly (Jack) Spinner of Grand Ledge, son Jeffrey Davis of Elkhart, Indiana, 3 grandchildren, Shane, Jacqualyn and Shanandua Rust.
Funeral services were held Sept. 21 at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating.
Ora E. Davis
Ora E. Davis, 90, of Bellevue, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001 at Battle Creek Health System. Mrs. Davis was born Sept. 28, 1911, the daughter of Harley and Ethel Johnson in Johnstown Township. She attended Hastings High School, worked as a cook at Northside Manor and Sunset Acres, and retired from Shranks Cafeteria. She married Merle Davis Aug. 17, 1931 in Banfield; he died in 1995. She was a member of the Sunshine Club, the National Rifle Association and the Pleasantview Family Church. She enjoyed cooking for family gatherings, crocheting, gardening, snowmobiling and traveling. She especially loved seeing her many grandchildren, and her church. She is survived by sons, Milburn (Pat) Davis and Donald Davis of Bellevue, Neil (Marie) Davis of Dowling, and Marvin (Bernadette) Davis of Deland, Fla.; daughters, Jean (Bob) Ashdon of Hastings, Nancy (Clyde) Wallace of Bellevue, Janet (Floyd) Fender of Vermontville and Carolyn Davis of Dowling; 30 grandchildren, and 86 great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Nina Cartwright of Scotts, Ada (Gerald) Crawley and Bernice Johnson of Battle Creek. She was preceded in death by sons, Darrell and Norman Davis; daughter, Gloria Davis; and brother, Lyle Johnson. Services were held Nov. 27 at Pleasantview Family Church, with Rev. Steve Olmstead officiating. Interment was at Ellis Cemetery, Assyria Township. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or Pleasantview Family Church. Arrangement were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Wesley DeBolt
Wesley DeBolt, 71, of DeWitt, formerly of Vermontville, died Nov. 16, 2001.
Mr. DeBolt was born Nov. 16, 1930 in Kalamo Township, the son of Clarence and Esther (Kellogg) DeBolt. He was an employee at Transitions North of Lansing, where he made many friends.
He is survived by a brother, Louis (Judy) of Vermontville; sisters, Eleanor (Gary) Kinnie of Dover, Tenn., and Laura DeBolt of DeWitt; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and caregivers at the DeWitt Home.
Funeral services were held Nov. 19 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Ed Linsley and Pastor Wes Emerson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Earl Decker
Earl R. Decker, age 63 of Melbourne Florida and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Friday, October 19, 2001. He was born in East Chicago, IN. He married Carole (Rishel), both were 1956 graduates of Eaton Rapids High School where he set records in basketball for many years.
Mr. Decker came to Brevard County in 1985 from Colorado Springs, CO. He was a retired ordained minister and businessman. In the Melbourne area, he worked with his son in DeckAire, the family air conditioning business. Mr. Decker was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Palm Bay. He was a graduate of the Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY, with a Bachelors in Theology and from Hillsdale College with a B.A. For the next 25 years he pastured churches in Michigan, Ohio, Colorado, and New York. He was also a talented golfer and fierce competitor.
Mr. Decker is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carole; sons Bruce (Kim) of Parker, CO, David (Natalie) and Steven, both of Melbourne; two grandchildren, Jessica and Mitchell; and three brothers, all of Florida.
Richard J. Decker
Richard James Decker, 77, of Lansing, formerly of Bellevue, died Oct. 16, 2001 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing.
Mr. Decker was born May 3, 1924 in Highland Park, the son of Richard and Anna (Hamilton) Decker. He graduated from Bellevue High School in 1942 and from Michigan State College in 1950. He worked as a mechanical engineer for General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He also farmed.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His marriage to Pearl Witherow ended in divorce. He married Joan Walter on June 19, 1981. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and dogs.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; son, James (Jane) Decker of Prescott, Ariz; daughters, Patricia (Norm) Byers and Nancy (Paul) Byers of Bellevue, and Karen (Bill) Black of Bay City; stepdaughter, Robin (David) Greiner of Dimondale; and 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marian Giddings.
Graveside services were held Oct. 20 at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue, with Pastor Steven Covert officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Capital Area Humane Society or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Pauline E. Dedafoe
Pauline E. Dedafoe, age 84 of Dimondale, died Tuesday evening, May 29, 2001 at a Lansing hospital. Mrs. Dedafoe was born June 5, 1916 in Windsor Township, a daughter of Ford and Myrtle (Howe) Hilliard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, a son, Carl, and two grandchildren. Mrs. Dedafoe was a member of S.E.R.A.
Surviving are two daughters, Karen Kemper of Grand Ledge and Gertrude Switzer of Holt; three sons, Kenneth (Barbara) Dedafoe of St. Helen, Joseph (Helen) Dedafoe of Grayling and Ronald (Nancy) Dedafoe of Onondaga; 24 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lee Hilliard of Dimondale and Lloyd Hilliard of Marshall; one sister, Darlene Taul of Lansing; several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Saturday, June 2nd, at Field & Leik Funeral Home, Dimondale, with Rev. John A. Toth officiating. Interment was in Dimondale Cemetery.
James Lee Degg
James Lee Degg, age 47 of Grand Ledge and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, June 30, 2001. He was born October 16, 1953 in Bay City, the son of Matthew Lee and Delores Marie (Preston) Degg. Jim was a carpenter and was currently working for Jim Smythe Construction Company in Okemos. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca (Tottingham) Degg of Eaton Rapids; son, James Degg; 3 step-children, Jon Shaw of Mason, Tracie Schnepp of Eaton Rapids; 4 grandchildren, Patiance Marie Degg, Blake Shaw, Jakob Guy and Sydney Shaw; sister, Genny (Al) Blanchard of Eaton Rapids and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. The family was served through the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids.
Russell W. Detering
Russell W. Detering, 79, of Dimondale, died Aug. 8, 2001.
Mr. Detering was born April 4, 1922 in Lansing, the son of Fred and Elizabeth Detering. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as a first lieutenant with the Lansing Police Department, having served from 1945 to 1978. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, fishing and traveling with his wife Lynne in their motorhome.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Tim) Griffith of Springport and Gail (Michael) Scott of Dimondale; one son, William Detering of Ionia; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve “Lynne”, whom he married on Oct. 21, 1944.
Funeral services were held Aug. 11 at Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel.

Ivan J. DeWalt
Ivan J. DeWalt, 66, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, June 26, 2001 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing, after an extended illness.
Mr. DeWalt was born Jan. 9, 1935 in Marion, Ind., the son of Paul and Wilma (Bloom) DeWalt and had been Charlotte resident since 1965, coming from Marion, Ind. He was a 1953 graduate of Marion, Ind., high school attended the Chicago Baking School, was a retired police officer for the city of Charlotte, with 18 years of service, and was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church, Charlotte, and its Adult Choir and Men’s Club. Mr. DeWalt was also a member of Spencer Avenue United Methodist Choir, SPEBSQUA (barbershop quartet) and the Grant County Volkswagon Club, all in Marion, Ind. He was also a member of Charlotte Lodge #120 F & AM, a member and “exhausted rooster” of the Charlotte and Marion, Ind., Jaycees, was a Charlotte Fire Department volunteer, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, and was a Charlotte Bethel #1 Job’s Daughters Associate Guardian. His hobbies included his grandchildren, fishing, camping, photography, bird watching and feeding, singing, keyboard playing, woodworking, lawn care, baking and cooking. He was married to Loretta Jean Ballard on April 3, 1955 in Marion, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta; two daughters, Kathleen Marie (Timothy) Pruden of Charlotte and Ronda Lee (Brian) Decker of Raleigh, N.C.; six grandchildren, Michael, Tiffany and Andrew Pruden, and Alexis, Sydney and Shelby Decker; his mother, Wilma DeWalt of Marion, Ind.; one brother, Ronald (Adelle) DeWalt of Erie, Pa.; two sisters-in-law, Barbara (John) Buxton of Festus, Mo., and Patricia Ballard of Marion, Ind.; cousin, Rev. Edwin Clark of Warsaw, Ind; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and special friends, Dennis and Sandra Fast of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul DeWalt, and a niece, Janet DeWalt.
Funeral services were held June 29 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. George Fleming, Rev. Edwin Clark and Charlotte Lodge #120 F & AM officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church Adult Choir for new robes and music holders, or to the Juvenile Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
