Richard D. Doxtader
Richard D. Doxtader, age 64 of Jackson and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died October 8, 2001. He was born March 12, 1937 in Kinneville, Michigan. Mr. Doxtader was an avid garage saler and friend to everyone he met. He had a kind heart and was generous and giving to everyone.
He is survived by his children, Bonnie Hernandez, Brenda Brooks, Richard Paul Doxtader, Rosanna Domschot, Roxanna Garland, Richard Duane Doxtader Jr., and Raymond Doxtader; 13 grandkids, Ernesto, Joshua and Anthony Doxtader, Ashley Domschot, Bobbie and Kirsten Garland, Sunny and Denise Domschot, Casey Lou Doxtader, Andre Hernandez, Richard, Benito and Zachary Doxtader; great-grandchildren, Donavan and Katelyn Doxtader; brothers and sisters, Morris Doxtader, Dale Doxtader, Merwin Doxtader, Martha Bogart, Bobbie Bunker, Darlene Bristol, and Joyce Dernfield; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held October 11, 2001 from the Woodland Cemetery-Chapel with Rev. Sam Steadman officiating. Place of interment was Woodland Cemetery, Jackson, Michigan. Paul J. Dunning
Paul Jean Dunning, 53, of Pentwater, formerly of Charlotte, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001.
Mr. Dunning was born March 6, 1948 in Charlotte, the son of Edward VanBergan and Carla (Farrier) Dunning. He was a cartographer for the Michigan Department of Transportation. He and his wife Donna owned and operated Schatze Manor Bed and Breakfast before moving to Pentwater. He was an avid woodcarver-craftsman and artist. He was a member of the Charlotte Optimist Club and on the board of directors for the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Donna Jean (LeClair); son Aaron Wesley (Christine) Dunning of Fruitport and daughter Aimee HeeBoon Dunning of Lansing; sister Nanette (Gerald) Podany of Charlotte and his parents.
Funeral services were held May 4 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Dr. Charles Moore and Bill Courter officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlotte Optimist Club.
Arthur L. Duty
Arthur L. Duty, 76, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at the Eaton County Medical Care Facility, Charlotte.
Mr. Duty was born Oct. 9, 1924 in Monroe, the son of Wesley and June (Strubel) Duty. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a retired employee of General Motors in Lansing.
Surviving are one brother, Wesley Duty of Monroe; and one sister, June Hatt of Grayling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara (Lipp) Duty in 1982.
At Mr. Duty’s request, there were no services held. Interment was at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.
Arrangements were made by the Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
John Vernon Dziewiatkowski
John Vernon Dziewiatkowski, age 31 of Lansing and formerly of Eaton Rapids, died Monday, November 12, 2001 at a Lansing hospital. He was born December 25, 1969 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the son of John Thomas and Pamela Jean (Cusick) Dziewiatkowski. John was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1988. John was an unforgettable man, in both stature and persona. His outward appearance gave strangers pause, but on closer inspection, his eyes displayed his humor in shocking others, and his smile, a glimpse into the kindness and love he offered to all. The generosity of his heart was matched only in beauty by his Irish tenor. To hear John sing was to experience the gentle purity of the person within. He was an artisan, a gentleman, and a friend in the truest sense of the word, for all those whose lives he touched were enriched. He will not be forgotten by his classmates, wrestling companions or his friends of the renaissance.
John remains living through his grandmother, Adeline; mother, Pamela; father, John; sisters, Katina and Shannon; brothers, Jason and Joshua; niece, Mekenna; nephews, Tate and David James; fiancée Isebela and her son Micah; loving aunts, uncles and cousins, and a lifetime of special friends.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, November 17th, from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Fr. Alan Wakefield of St. James Catholic Church in Mason as celebrant.
James F. Effner
James F. Effner, 61, born May 30, 1939 in Joliet, Ill., passed away peacefully in his home Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001.
Mr. Effner retired from Fisher Body, was a Korean War veteran, a 1973 Michigan State University graduate and a leader in the woodworking industry for 25 years. He was also the technical editor of FDM magazine and co-owner with his wife, Marilyn of Welcome Woods Campground in Hastings.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; daughters, Judi (Bill) Dillinger of Charlotte and Lori (Rytis) Balciunas of Pennsylvania; son, Ryan of California; step-children, Marty Titmus and Sheri Whitaker, both of Charlotte, Steven (Julia) Titmus and Linda (Paul) French, both of Hastings, Sally (Dean) Cronkright of Zeeland, Mike (Mary) Titmus of Florida, and Robert (Wendy) Titmus of Ohio; brothers, Ron of Sparta and Wesley of Florida; sister, Ruth Robbins of Florida; and 24 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lavern Sneary and James Effner and brother, John Effner.
Funeral services were held Feb. 16 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Sadie M. Eitniear
Sadie Mae Eitniear, 104, of Forth Wayne, Ind., died May 21, 2001 at Arbors at Fort Wayne, Fort Wayne, Ind.
Mrs. Eitniear was born Feb. 26, 1897 in Putnam County, Ohio, the daughter of Frank and Laura (Eagle) Hardwick. She was a homemaker, and she and her husband ran a truck farm near Eaton Rapids and sold produce at the Farmer’s Market in Lansing. She was a member of the Woodview Church of God in Ft. Wayne, Ind., and a former member of South Cochran Church of God in Charlotte.
She is survived by daughters, Beatrice Michael of Lansing and Geraldine Steers of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; six grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 28 great-great-grandchildren, nine great-great-great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester in 1965, and a daughter, Erna in 1932.
Services were held May 25 at the South Cochran Church of God, Charlotte, with Pastor Donald Kinser and Pastor Hugh Burger officiating. Interment was at Dimondale Cemetery, Dimondale.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Woodview Church of God in Ft. Wayne, Ind., or the South Cochran Church of God in Charlotte. Arrangements were by the Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, Ft. Wayne, Ind.
John C. Engel, Sr.
John C. Engel, Sr., 81, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at his home at Higgins Lake.
Mr. Engel was born May 10, 1920 in East Lansing, the son of Charles and Ruth (Butler) Engel. He was a World War II veteran and a lifetime member of Tin Can Soldiers, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Potterville, Post No. 6034.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Edith Mae (Harris) Engel; daughters, Barbara (Roger) Zerba of Olivet, Patricia (Kenneth) Hancock of Mulliken, and Joan (Elton) Crowe of Charlotte; son, John Engel, Jr. of Eaton Rapids; seven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; and sister, June Wirt of Lansing.
Cremation has taken place and interment was at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta.

George Dwight Farr
George Dwight Farr, age 88 of Eaton Rapids, died September 10, 2001 in Battle Creek. George was born May 10, 1913 in Alma, the son of Charles Summer and Ida Mae (Church) Farr. Mr. Farr was a retired self employed painter and decorator and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Denbow) Davis Farr; 6 sisters, Florence Allbee, Helen DeCamp, Daisy Wilkenson, Dorthy and Emma Farr, Ardella Jenks; 4 brothers, Frank, Ansel, Charles and Martin Farr.
Surviving are his 4 step daughters, Donna (James) McBride of Eaton rapids, Bess (Ed) Wiggins of Farwell, Mona Miller and Irene (Al) Howe both of Florida; step son, John R. Davis of Arizona; step granddaughter, Brenda (Harlan) Harvey of MA; 3 step great-grandchildren, Hannah, Halle and Hattie Harvey, many other step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Bebout of West Branch; several nieces and nephews including, Donna Carlson, James Farr, Jim and Marilyn Holland all of Riverdale, Sharon Morgan of Sumner and Ivan and Berniece Gillis of Alma.
Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2001, 2 p.m. at Deepdale Memorial Gardens in Lansing. Those desiring may make contributions to either the VA Medical Facility in Battle Creek or Tri-County Office on Aging for Meals on Wheels in memory of George D. Farr. Arrangements by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
James E. Fasnaugh Sr.
James Edward Fasnaugh Sr., 67, of Baldwin died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001.
Mr. Fasnaugh was born May 8, 1933 in Charlotte, the son of Barney and Eva (Draper) Fasnaugh. He retired as an inspector for Oldsmobile and served on the Potterville-Benton Township Fire Department and the Potterville Police Department for many years.
He is survived by his wife Shirley (Hite); sons, Thomas (Shelley) of Charlotte and James Jr. of Potterville; grandson, Tyler; and granddaughter, Teddy Jo.
Funeral services were Feb. 14 at Pray Funeral Home, with Rev. Paul Bailey officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
