Charles H. Head “Honest Charlie”
Charles H. “Honest Charlie” Head of Eaton Rapids, loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle passed away on Tuesday, November 6, 2001, at the age of 69. He was born November 10, 1931 in Lansing, the son of Aubrey and Helen (Logan) Head. Charlie retired from Jet Die Engineering in Lansing after 38 years of faithful service. He served with the 11th Airborne during the Korean Conflict, was a member of the F. &A.M. Lodge #63 in Eaton Rapids and the Moose Lodge #282 in Lansing. Charlie enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. Preceding him in death was his son-in-law Wayne Newberry and his parents.
Surviving are his wife of 49 years Wanda L. (Jones); 4 daughters, Pennie Newberry, Bobbie Wells, Charla (Craig) Boatman and Kaye (John) Mueller; sister, Dorthea (Paul) Burke; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 9th, from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. Burial followed in the Rosehill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Charles H. “Honest Charlie” Head.
Donald L. Heisler
Donald L. Heisler, 79, of Olivet, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Tendercare of Marshall Nursing Home.
Mr. Heisler was born Jan. 15, 1922 in Marshall, the son of Fred and Myrtie (Caldwell) Heisler, and was a lifelong Olivet-area resident. He had been employed by Eaton Manufacturing Company in Battle Creek, from where he retired in 1985. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a former member of the Marshall Moose Lodge.
He is survived by two sons, Fred (Dee) Heisler of Olivet and Leroy (Cheryl Whitehead) Heisler of Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Sherrie Case, Michael Heisler, Tammy Heisler, Melissa King and Tiffany Whitehead; six great-grandchildren, Kayla Case, Kayti Case, Andre McCormack, Amanda McCormack, Ethan King and Devin King.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian (Miller) Heisler on Aug. 17, 1999; daughter, Margaret Julia Heisler in 1944; five sisters, Carrie Oberlin, Sylvia Wilber, Freda Murphy, Jessie Sharp and Delia Key; and four brothers, Cecil, Andrew, Gerald and Kenneth.
Funeral services were held June 2 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Winford Collins officiating. Interment was at Lee Center Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lifespan, or the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte.
Michael G. Hennessey
Michael Gerard Hennessey, 46, of Charlotte, died April 23, 2001.
Mr. Hennessey was born Oct. 4, 1954 in Lansing, the son of Carlyle “Cal” and Dorothy (Jonas) Hennessey. He was the owner of Pine Tree Cabinets.
He is survived by sisters, Torre Bolus and family Anne-Marie Bolus; great-niece, Dorothy Ava-Marie “Dottie,” and great-nephew, James “Cal” Carlyle; Loraine (Gary) Shaver and family, Jason, Ben and Matt Shaver; brother, Jerry (Annette) Hennessey and family, Corey David Kirby, Stephanie Hennessey of Charlotte; sister, Lois (Roger) Horchner of Reed City; sister-in-law, Judy Huebener of Sterling Heights; fiancé, Nancy Bennett and family, Kally (Ron) Stoye, Lorissa Newman, Sam Stoye; Debbie (Mike) Brehm, Josh and Sara; and Don Bennett.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Hennessey.
Funeral mass was celebrated April 26 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlotte, with Fr. Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.

Marvin C. “Bud” Henrys Jr.
Marvin C. “Bud” Henrys Jr., 68, of Charlotte, died Friday, March 9, 2001 after a long illness.
Mr. Henrys was born Jan. 4, 1933, in Lansing, the son of Marvin and Mary (Parks) Henrys. He was a brick mason all his life and loved to hunt and fish.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Sharon (Shannon) Johnson, and Kathleen (Aaron) Henrys-Whitmore, both of Charlotte; stepchildren, Tom (Brenda) Armstrong of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Julie (Jay) Vincent of Lansing; 10 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, five step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia (George) Kirchmeier of Charlotte, Beverly (Patrick) McClain, and Mary (Ron) Wilcoxson, both of Coloma; brothers, Michael (Leah) Henrys of Lansing, and Norm (Lorraine) Henrys of Pentwater; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1986; his father in 1995; and a niece, Mary Magdalene, in 1998.
Funeral services were held March 12 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Larry Sandusky officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to the charity of one’s choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Alice J. Herrick
In honor of Alice Jean Margaret (Bayntun) Herrick, 82, of Olivet, who died Dec. 19, 2000, a memorial service will be held Saturday, July 14 at 2 p.m. at Olivet College.
Memorial contributions may be made to United Way, Olivet College or Olivet Congregational Church. Assistance with memorials is available at Kempf Funeral Home, Marshall.
Virgil Hiatt
Virgil Hiatt, age 73 of Eaton rapids, died Sunday, December 9, 2001 in Charlotte. Virgil was born March 8, 1928 in Lansing, the son of Oran Hiatt and Celia May (Gonder) Hiatt. Virgil was a member of the Teamsters Local #580 and was employed for 35 years as a truck driver with Howard Sober, C&J Haul-Away and Lease Way. He loved to garden and enjoyed the great out of doors. Virgil was preceded in death by his brother, Glen Hiatt and sister, Helen Billips.
Surviving are his 4 daughters, Vicki (Dale) Christensen of IL, Kathie (Jon) Opdyke of Okemos, Laurie (Bill) Gipson of Eaton Rapids, Sharon Hiatt of Charlotte; son, Keith (Dylite) Hiatt of Eaton Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Kari and Klint Christensen, Austin and Ryan Opdyke, Holly Halsey, Kirk & Ariel Hiatt, Temple (Kevin) Parker; 4 great-grandchildren, Elijah Opdyke, Skylar Yeager, Kelsi Weaver, McKenzie Caksaekkar; 2 brothers, Gordon Hiatt of Irons, Raymond (Margaret) Hiatt of Rives Junction. Also surviving are his former wife of 22 years, Irene.

Gary L. Hickey
Gary Lee Hickey, 34, of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, June 7, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Hickey was born May 12, 1967 to Robert hickey and Shirley Mae (King) Hickey in Battle Creek. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1985.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley Hickey of Battle Creek; brother, Steven (Carrie) Hickey of Battle Creek; twin sister, Traci (Duane) Borgman of Olivet; two nephews, Christopher Bayman of Olivet and Matthew Clark of Burlington; and one niece, Jessica Clark of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hickey in 1987; and one nephew, Brandon Bronson in June 2000.
Graveside services were held June 11 at Burlington Cemetery, Burlington, with Rev. Dr. Roy Backus officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the family.

Faith Higdon
Faith Lorene Higdon, age 55 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, December 29, 2001 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Florida, surrounded by her family. She was born Faith Lorene Hammond on June 25, 1946 in Lansing to Harold and Lorena (Laverty) Hammond. She was raised on the family farm at Narrow Lake, active in 4-H, and graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1964. Faith was a member of the Order of Eastern Star holding many offices at Brookfield Chapter serving as Worthy Matron five times, President of Eaton County Association, and participated at state levels.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Galen Higdon of Eaton Rapids; a son, Cal (Holly) Hartline of Melbourne, Florida; a daughter, Rachel (David) Rockafellow of Sonoma, California and four wonderful grandchildren, Leah and Jacob Hartline and Alicia and Zachary Rockafellow. Faith also had three step-grandchildren. She leaves sisters, Hope Smith of Potterville and Shari (Dr. G.W.) Snider of Goshen, IN and brother Charles (Dell) of Tucson, AZ. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on January 20, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eaton Rapids Masonic Temple. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Brookfield Chapter OES, c/o P.O. Box 505, Potterville, MI 48876.
Fern M. Hill
Fern Mary Hill, 81, of Lansing, died May 30, 2001.
Mrs. Hill was born June 8, 1919 in Charlotte, the daughter of Earl and Helen French. She is survived by a son, Norman (Kay) Hill of Lansing; sisters, Donna Fast of Eaton Rapids, Elaine Brookes of Okemos, Shirley Walters of Ionia and Margie (Bob) Eckhart of Onondaga; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Hill, June 2 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Ralph Barton officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Cemetery, Lansing. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
