Jimmy Hill
Jimmy Hill, 64, of Vermontville, died Monday, Dec. 17, 2001.
Mr. Hill was born May 21, 1937 in Paris, Ky., the son of Robert and Marjorie (Rose) Hill. He was an electrician.
He is survived by son, Wesley, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; brothers, Ray (Vicki) Marion, Terry and Tony; and three grandchildren, Jenni, Larry and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley (Wicker) Hill in 1999.
Funeral services were held at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Richard W. Hill
Richard W. Hill, 81, of Cambridge, Ohio, died Friday, June 22, 2001 at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Hill was born March 7, 1920 in Piqua, Ohio, the son of J. Warren Hill and Stella Gustin Hill. He was employed as a cooperative extension service 4-H agent in Guernsey County and Eaton County. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, and served during World War II in the United States Air Force. Mr. Hill sang in the choir at Center Methodist Church and was a member of “I Can Cope” at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center. He volunteered at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, and was a member of the Lions Club in Charlotte. He was an avid bicyclist, gardener and basket weaver. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Ohio State University, and doctor of philosophy degree from Michigan State University.
He is survived by his wife of 60years, Mildred Hill of Cambridge, Ohio; daughter, Rita (Kenneth) Warnock of Kimbolton, Ohio; sons, Richard (Audrey) Hill of Redman, Ore., and James Hill of Charlotte; six grandchildren, Scott (Melanie) Hill of Redman, Ore., Todd Hill of Lansing, Ill., Ron (Vicki) Warnock of West Lafayette, Ohio, Duane (Natalie) Warnock of Grove City, Ohio, Rich Warnock of Antrim, Ohio, and Don Warnock of Kimbolton, Ohio; step-grandchildren, Travis Cook and Austin Cook, both of Redman, Ore.; great-grandchildren, Madison, Meagan and Myranda Hill of Redman, Ore., Anna Marie and Nathan Warnock of Grove City, Ohio, and Kaylie and Nicholas Warnock of Cambridge, Ohio; brothers, Robert (Mabel) Hill of Troy, Ohio, Joseph Hill of Areanum, Ohio, and Fredrick (Vesta) Hill of Franklin, Ohio.
Services were held June 26 at Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, Ohio, with Rev. Dennis Nelson and Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Interment was at Northwood Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center United Methodist Church or Guernsey County Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Bundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, Ohio.
James W. Hillard
James W. Hillard, age 88 of Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, August 7, 2001 in Lansing. Jim was born January 20, 1913 in Hamlin Twp., Eaton County, MI, the son of Thomas and Kate Hillard. Mr. Hillard was a member of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church and served as Hamlin Twp. Supervisor for 13 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle in February 2001.
Surviving are his daughter, Karen (Keith) Abrahamson of Eaton Rapids; granddaughter, Amanda.
Funeral services were held on August 10, 2001 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment followed at Oakwood Cemetery. Those desiring may make contribution to the Eaton Rapids Medical Center Foundation or the First United Methodist Church in memory of James Hillard.
Myrtle C. Hillard
Myrtle C. Hillard, age 91 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, February 17, 2001 in Lansing. Myrtle was born March 19, 1909 in Eaton Township, Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of George Elton and Nellie (Andrews) Whitaker. She was a member of the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hillard had been a telephone operator for Michigan Bell for 15 years when she made a decision to work side by side with her husband on the family farm south of Eaton Rapids. She was preceded in death by her sister, Laura Little and brother, Harold Whitaker.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, James W.; daughter, Karen (Keith) Abrahamson of Eaton Rapids and granddaughter, Amanda.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2001, 3 p.m., at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Pastor Tom Evans officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the Eaton Rapids First United Methodist Church Building Fund in memory of Myrtle Hillard.
Frederick D. Hinkle
Frederick Donald Hinkle, 75, of Charlotte, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001.
Mr. Hinkle was born Sept. 9, 1926 in Delton, the son of Albert and Gladys (Coffey) Hinkle. He worked as an electrician and served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.
He is survived by daughters, Patricia Ann and Diane; son, James Alan Hinkle of Battle Creek; two stepdaughters, Penny Coffey of Bellevue and Jean Makins of Holt; three stepsons, Dennis Coffey of Georgia, Steve Coffey of North Carolina and Tom Coffey of Dewitt; 15 grandchildren; brother, Arthur Hinkle of South Dakota; and a sister, Elizabeth Fansler of Allendale.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle (Elston) Hinkle.
At his request, Mr. Hinkle’s body was donated to the University of Michigan Medical School. No services will be held.

Mary M. Hipshire
Mary M. Hipshire, age 67 of Eaton Rapids, died Saturday, October 27, 2001 in Eaton Rapids. Mary was born December 9, 1933 in Wyandotte, the daughter of Edward Felix and Marion Delight (Moore) Mayville. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Hipshire in 1981.
She was a loving mother to 3 daughters, Jordan Knickerbocker aka Kathy, of California, Charlotte Hipshire of Georgia, Kellie Hipshire of Eaton Rapids; 3 sons, William Hipshire of Chicago, Carl Hipshire and John Hipshire both of Eaton Rapids. She was a loving grandmother to 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother, Allen (Elaine) Mayville of Wyandotte and 2 nephews and one niece.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2001, 3:00 p.m. at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids with Rev. Stephen Klink officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the Funeral Home.
Bernadine L. Hoffman
Bernadine L. Hoffman, 82, of Charlotte died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, Ind. after an extended illness.
She was born Apr. 15, 1918 at Six Lakes, the daughter of Andrew and Ida (Roush) Hoffman and had a lifelong commitment to both education and foreign missions. Bernadine was a 1936 graduate of Charlotte High School and went to Huntington College in 1936 to prepare for a career in teaching. After three years, she transferred to and graduated from Western Michigan University. Following college she taught elementary school in Lansing, Bath and Charlotte. Sensing a call to missionary service, she went to Sierra Leone, West Africa, in 1944, where she was assigned as a teacher to the Minni Mull School for Girls. Later she served at the Dansville School, the Bumpe Bible Institute, and at the Centennial Secondary school. Having begun various Christian education projects, she developed the post of Secretary of Christian Education, a position she held until retirement. During her 39 years of consecutive missionary service in Sierra Leone, longest of any missionary in United Brethren schools history, she was instrumental in developing a Bible knowledge syllabus for all United Brethren schools, elementary through secondary levels. She developed the Annual Women’s Institute, Christian Endeavor for youth through their schools and/or churches, quizzing, and annual youth camps. She was currently a member of the Crossroads United Brethren In Christ Church in Charlotte.
Surviving are her foster son, Rev. Joseph C. (Matenneh) Abu of Claymont, Del.; three grandchildren, Peter and Patricia Abu and Jodi Jusu; nephews, Raymond (Bethel) Stambaugh of Sunfield, and James (Marda) Hoffman, of Huntington, Ind.; and sister in–law, Amy Hoffman of Huntington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ronald A. Hoffman and Rowland Hoffman, and a sister, Lucille Stambaugh.
Funeral services were held Feb. 5 at Crossroads United Brethren In Christ Church, Charlotte. Interment was in Browne Mennonite Cemetery, Browne Twp., Kent County.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Crossroads United Brethren In Christ Church, Charlotte, or the Mt. Zion United African Church, Philadelphia, PA.

Gerald W. Holbrook II
Gerald Wallace Holbrook II, 13, of Camden, Tenn., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, as the result of a house fire.
Gerald was born Nov. 2, 1988 in Lansing, the son of Gerald Wallace Holbrook and Suzanne Briggs Holbrook. He was a seventh-grade student at Camden Junior High School and a member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church in Camden, Tenn.
He is survived by his parents; sisters Autumn Sue Holbrook and Kendra Sue Holbrook, both of Camden, Tenn.; grandparents, Lawrence and Elizabeth Briggs, and Jack and Gerry Holbrook, all of Eaton Rapids.
Services were held Jan. 2 at Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, Camden, Tenn., with Elder Derrick Jowers officiating.
Arrangements were by Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home, Camden, Tenn.
