Nicole M. Holbrook
Nicole Marie Holbrook, 16, of Camden, Tenn., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, as the result of a house fire.
Nicole was born March 31, 1985 in Eaton Rapids. She was an 11th-grade student at Camden Central High School and a member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church in Camden, Tenn.
She is survived by her parents; sisters, Autumn Sue and Kendra Sue, both of Camden, Tenn.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Holbrook II.
Services were held Jan. 3 at Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, Camden, Tenn., with Elder Derrick Jowers officiating. Interment was on family property.
Arrangements were by Stockdale-Malin Funeral Home, Camden, Tenn.
Nancy J. Holder
Nancy Jane Holder, 69, of Bellevue, died Oct. 13, 2001 at her home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Holder was born June 19, 1932 in Pontiac, the daughter of Chester and Elsie (Preston) Bennett. She attended school in California and graduated from Athens High School and Kellogg Community College in Business. She then worked for the Kellogg Company and the Federal Center. She married Lloyd Ray Holder on July 17, 1981. She was an active member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church, and a member of Eagles Aerie #299. Mrs. Holder enjoyed reading, gardening, crafts, cooking and baking, and taught ceramic classes at home and for the 4-H. When she was a child in California, she did talent dance numbers for The Little Rascals. Mrs. Holder loved children and having her family around her. She also enjoyed her hobbies, and generously shared them with others.
She is survived by her husband, Lloyd; grandsons, Josh, Tim and Chuck West of Battle Creek, and Matthew West of Potterville; and one great-grandson, Douglas Gavin West; sister, Barbara Matlock of California; adopted daughter, Bonnie Jean Brown of Battle Creek; and adopted grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Ray West; and a sister, Carolyn Krakow.
Services were held Oct. 18 at the Bellevue United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue.
Memorial donations may be made to the Bellevue United Methodist Church or the Arthritis Foundation. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Viola A. Holloway
Viola Agnes Holloway, 95, of Eaton Rapids, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001 in Charlotte.
Agnes was born Dec. 23, 1905 in Dart County, Ohio, the daughter of Franklin and Rosetta (Norris) Elston.
She is survived by her dear friend, Ialene Heath of Eaton Rapids; three stepdaughters, Nellie Balzer of Lansing, Norma Towns of Eaton Rapids and Violet Kappa of Livonia; step-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Glendora Elston of Eaton Rapids and Hilda Elston of Charlotte; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Aug. 11 at Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids, with Rev. Robert Carpenter officiating. Interment was at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Eaton Manor Nursing Home.
Wayne Ira Holmes
Wayne Ira Holmes, age 92 of Eaton Rapids, died Sunday, December 30, 2001 in Dimondale. Wayne was born January 14, 1909 in Clarence Twp., Calhoun County, MI the son of William Hiram and Mary Dahlia (Faulkner) Holmes. MR. Holmes was a member of St. Peter Church in Eaton Rapids and also a member of St. Vincent Society, Knights of Columbus and the Eaton Rapids Kiwanis Club. He retired from Speaker-Hines and Thomas after 45 years of service, owned and operated Holmes Printing for 40 years and was a member of the International Typographical Union of over 60 years. Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Holmes and sister, Ruth Merrifield.
Surviving are his wife, Cecelia; 6 children Richard (Donna) Holmes of Daytona Beach, FL, Mary Ellen (Burt) Bentley of Lapeer, Jean (William) Hanshaw of Hastings, John (Mila) Holmes of Scottsdale, AZ, Thomas (Nancy) Holmes of Williamston, Sarah (James) Anderson of Spring, TX; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mass of the Christian Burial was prayed on Friday, January 4, 2001 at St. Peter Church, Eaton Rapids. Arrangements were made by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Interment was at Rosehill Cemetery, Eaton Rapids. Casket bearers were Marty McNamara, Anthony Kruzel, John Magner, Richard O’Connell, Ron Miller and Robert Kirkpatrick. Honorary bearers were Paul Holmes, Patrick Holmes, Brent Bentley and Jamie Hanshaw. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Vincent Society, St. Peter Building Fund or Eaton Community Hospice in memory of Wayne I. Holmes.
Guy Martin Holwig
Guy M. Holwig, age 76 of Lachine, MI, died Monday, November 12, 2001 at his residence following a long illness. He was born August 26, 1925 on the family centennial farm in Brookfield Township, the son of William H. and Mildred (Boody) Holwig. Guy was an Eaton Rapids High School graduate, class of 1952. He served in the Army during World War II and had received many citations including a Purple Heart. Guy retired from Wolverine Tractor in Southfield, as a Heavy Construction Equipment Salesman and has lived in Lachine for the past 15 years. A founding member and past president and board member of the Livonia Junior Athletic League, and a founding member and the 1st president of the Wilson Acres Home Owners Association, and a member of the Elks Lodge of Livonia. Preceding him in death were his parents; and three siblings, Margaret Meyer, Harry “Zeke” Holwig and Mary Montie.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Gretchen; 2 children, William M. (Christine) Holwig of Livonia and Bernie P. (Colleen) Holwig of Livonia; 3 grandchildren, Julie and Michael Potvin and William Guy Holwig; sister-in-law, Helen Holwig; brothers-in-law, Hal Meyers and Myron Montie; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Friday, November 16th, from the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids. Burial followed in the Oakwood Cemetery in Eaton Rapids.
Margaret J. Horne
Margaret Jane Horne, 84, of Charlotte, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001.
Mrs. Horne was born June 4, 1916, in Mayport, Pa., the daughter of James William and Jane (Nichols) Burkey. Mrs. Horne had jobs in a steel mill, a hospital, and a pottery factory during her lifetime.
She is survived by daughter Sally (Danny) Skelton of Charlotte; stepson, Richard Horne of Byromville, Ga.; sister, Annie Price of Wampum, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Horne, son, James, and a brother, John Burkey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 at noon at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Marc Livingston officiating. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Lake Odessa.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Chester Gospel Church, American Cancer Society, or Eaton Community Hospice.

Charles J. Horstman
Charles J. Horstman, 82, of Olivet, died April 24, 2001 at Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital in Charlotte.
Mr. Horstman was born Sept. 8, 1918 in Detroit. He grew up in Detroit and attended school there. He served in the U.S. Army as a pilot during World War II. On Jan. 12, 1944 he married the former Roberta Martin in Detroit; she preceded him in death Dec. 4, 1990. In 1945, the couple moved to Petoskey and helped run the family motel – the Paradise Lake Motel at Carp Lake. He then went to work for Montgomery Ward as a salesman in the early 1950’s, and worked there until 1970. The couple then moved to Orlando, Florida, where he worked at Disney until 1986 when they moved to Olivet, where he had lived since. Mr. Horstman loved to golf, and was a member of the American Legion and the B-26 Marauder Historical Society.
He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Michael) Lauer of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Melissa Lauer of Brooklet, Ga., and Patrick Lauer of Manchester.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dale in 1970.
Funeral services were held April 30 at Stone Funeral Home, with Rev. David Behling officiating. Interment was at St. Francis Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
Owen K. Hotchkiss
Owen K. Hotchkiss, 78, of Charlotte, died Dec. 29, 2000.
Mr. Hotchkiss was born April 11, 1922 in Rice Creek, Calhoun County, the son of Harry and Bertha (Krenerick) Hotchkiss. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1940, and spent three years in World War II in the 8th Air Force, stationed in England, after which he went to aircraft school in California for one year. He worked for Lorenz Bros. Buick dealer for 17 years, and for General Motors for 22 years, retiring in 1987. He belonged to the VFW in Charlotte, and took an active role in Boy Scouts and 4-H when his children were young. Mr. Hotchkiss loved to square dance and work on his neatly kept farm which he and his wife, Tressie, owned for 41 years. He married Tressie Stanham on June 1, 1946; she survives.
Also surviving are one son, John; two daughters, Debra (Darrel) Gingrich and Karen (Timothy) Mikesell; four grandchildren, Kimberly and Heather Gingrich, and, Chelsea and Garrett Mikesell, all of Charlotte; one brother, Marvin (Margaret) Hotchkiss of Ohio; and, nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Lee and Duane.
Funeral services were held Jan. 2 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Dave Selleck officiating. Interment was at Dimondale Cemetery, Dimondale.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton County Courthouses Restoration, the VFW, or the charity of one’s choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
