Esther L. Lentz
Esther L. Lentz, age 85 of Onondaga, died Monday, June 25, 2001 in Jackson County. Esther was born October 4, 1915 in Elberta, MI the daughter of Thorby David Scofield and Freida Augusta Agnes (Latteau) Boughfman. She was a member of the Onondaga Community Church, a Registered Nurse with the Eaton Rapids Community Hospital Emergency Room for 15 years, retiring in 1976 and a volunteer with the Leslie Ambulance Service. Mrs. Lentz was preceded in death by her husband, Ward, in 1996.
Surviving are 2 daughters, Martha Jane (Jon) Noll of Seattle, WA, Rebecca (Warren) Noble of Onondaga; 2 sons, Rodney (Nancy) Lentz of Rolla, MO, Riley (Patricia) Lentz of Eaton Rapids; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson and sister, June Riley of Manistee.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 28, 2001 at the Onondaga Community Church with Rev. William Muller officiating. Graveside services were also held June 28th at the Joyfield Cemetery, near Frankfort. The family was served by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids. Those desiring may make contributions to the Onondaga Community Church in memory of Esther Lentz.
Lucy M. Leonard
Lucy M. Leonard, 87, died Dec. 30, 2000.
Mrs. Leonard lived at Linda Manor in Leeds, Mass., for the past eight years. She was born in Eaton County on March 5, 1913 to Ward and Ina Bingham. She was married to the late Sylvester “Vet” Leonard, a retired treasurer of Washtenaw County, for 50 years. Long-time residents of Michigan, Mrs. Leonard and her husband retired to Florida in the 1980’s. After her husband’s death in 1992, she moved to Massachusetts to be near her daughter.
Survivors include a brother, Dale Bingham of Charlotte; daughter, Ellan Cole of Brookfield, Vt.; three sons, Robert of Williston, Robin of Fairfax, Va., and Ralph of Milan; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 5 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

David F. Letts
David Franklin Letts, age 47, died Aug. 17, 2001 at his home after lengthy battle with cancer.
Mr. Letts was born Dec. 10, 1953 in Lansing, the son of Harry and Oleta (Smith) Letts. He was a repair technician for Lazy Boy. He served in the U.S. Army with active duty in Vietnam, was a member of the American Legion #42, and coached Little League baseball. Mr. Letts enjoyed karaoke singing, bowling, hunting, MSU sports, and his seasonal home at Lighthouse Village Resort.
He is survived by his wife Debora (VanLiew); sons, Jeremy of Haslett, Jammie of Lansing, and Lucas of Dimondale; stepdaughter, Dayna Lewis of Charlotte; stepson, Donald (Kim) Lewis of California; grandson, Noah Letts; stepgrandson, Dalton Lewis; mother, Oleta (Richard) Cook of Lake; brothers, Vern (Karen) Letts of Lake, Joe Letts of Lansing; sisters, Susan Smith of Bath, Rena Barrix of Lansing, Erma May-Letts of Florida, Michelle (Jeremy) Cole of Lansing, Nona Letts and Agnes Letts of Lake.
He was preceded in death by his father, and a sister, Vanessa.
Funeral services were held Aug. 20, with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Charlotte; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Robert D. Lewis
Robert D. Lewis, 79, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001 at his residence after an extended illness.
Mr. Lewis was born Aug. 21, 1922 in Grand Rapids, the son of Raymond and Ethel (Wright) Lewis, and had been a resident of the Charlotte area for 64 years, coming from Grand Ledge. He was employed at the Wilcox-Gay Co. in Charlotte, and then at John Bean FMC in Lansing, from where he retired in 1972. After his retirement, he worked at Roseacre Greenhouse and Mike’s Automotive, both in Charlotte, and had been a member of the Buck Club.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth (Murray) Lewis; one son, Duane (Betty) Lewis; four daughters, Charlotte (Erwin) Walker, Roberta (Jon) Forell, Arletta (Mike) Lahr and Diana (James) Wietzke, all of Charlotte; 18 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren; brother, John (Gwen) Lewis of Portland; and special family friends, Hazel and Ron Hamilton of Charlotte.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Tom and Richard Lewis; sister, Patsy Johnson; half brothers, Clarence and Paul Lewis; and half sister, Dorthea Haskitt and Alberta Kenny.
Funeral services were held Dec. 10 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Darrell Hodge officiating. Interment was at West Carmel Cemetery, Charlotte.
Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Robert Samuel Lightner Jr.
Robert Samuel Lighter Jr. “Cowboy Bob”, age 47 of Eaton Rapids, died Thursday, July 19, 2001 as a result of an automobile accident in Hamlin Township. He was born November 21, 1953 in Lansing, the son of Robert and Doris (Esch) Lightner Sr. Bob was a machinist for Enprotech in Lansing for 28 years, a Charlotte High School graduate, class of 1972, and a member of the Wednesday and Friday night bowling leagues in Charlotte. He enjoyed golfing, camping, fishing, hunting and his family. Preceding him in death was his father, Robert S. Lightner Sr., in 1992.
Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Peggy (Clarke); 2 children, Samantha Goldsberry and Daniel Lightner both of Eaton Rapids; 2 grandchildren, Chandra & Ryan Goldsberry of Eaton Rapids; mother, Doris Lightner of Lake Conroe, TX; grandfather, Harold Wineland of St. Johns; 2 brothers and 2 sisters, Peggy Jane Lightner of Jackson, David (Kathy) Lightner of Eaton Rapids, Lisa (Rod) Hicks of Lake Conroe, TX and Neil (Sheryl) Lightner, of Eaton Rapids; special friends, Alice and Don Rockey of Albion; several aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, July 23, 2001 at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with the Rev. Stephen Klink of the Community Christian Church officiating. Burial followed in the Bosworth Cemetery near Olivet. Pallbearers were Dennis Geisenhaver, Tony McCumber, Ed Brown, Clint Sears, Wally Gardner and Bill Boutin.
Anne Lindeman
Anne (Wensley) Lindeman 68, died of a heart attack Tuesday, June 5, 2001 in Phoenix, Ariz.
She was a 1950 graduate of Charlotte High School. A widow since 1962, she was well-known and influential in Arizona politics. She spent two terms as a state representative, and fiver terms as a state senator during which time she served as chairman of the Education Committee. She was the force behind establishing Arizona State University West. President Reagan appointed Lindeman to his Advisory Committee on Federalism, and in 1984 she was a delegate to the GOP National Convention. Before retiring last year, she served for six years as executive director of the Governor’s Commission on Aging. In this role, Lindeman was a fierce advocate for better care of the elderly, and created a statewide commission to improve end-of-life care.
She is survived by three sons, Robert, Kurt and Kristopher of Phoenix, Ariz; five grandchildren; and one brother, Jim Wensley of Los Angeles.
Memorial services and interment were held June 18 in Phoenix, Ariz.
Luanne S. Link
Luanne Sue Link, 51, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001.
She was born July 12, 1949 in Hastings, the daughter of William and Marian (Dingman) Link. She was a payroll administrator in various companies, most recently with Civil Constructors of Holt, until 1998. She was known to many people through her business, Luanne’s Crafts.
Surviving are two daughters, Karey Burnett of Charlotte and Babette Burnett of Lansing; two grandchildren, Charla Burnett and Devon Mann; and her mother, Marian Link.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Link in 1998; two brothers, Craig Link in 1987, and Rodney Link in 2000.
Funeral services were held Jan. 9 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Noel Hall-Nieman officiating. Interment was at Kalamo Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Danny H. Linn
Danny Harley Linn, 45, of Bellevue, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000.
Mr. Linn was born Jan. 17, 1955 in Lansing, the son of Darrell and Betty (Meeder). He was the former owner of Kemco Inc. of Charlotte. For the past seven years, he enjoyed his hobby of raising white tail deer. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited and the Deer Breeders Association.
Surviving are sons, Chad, Thomas, Micah and Andrew; daughter, Natanya; brothers, Randy of Charlotte and Larry (Marlene) of Tennessee; mother, Betty Kerekes; sisters, Merry Jo Kerekes of Lansing, Kathy Tyson of Orlando, Fla., and Susan Alexander of Indianapolis, Ind.; and brother, Tim Kerekes of Kalamazoo.
Funeral services were held Dec. 29 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
