Marion Louise (French) Magoon
Marion Louise (French) Magoon age 87 of Battle Creek, Michigan, died Thursday, January 4, 2001. She was born December 4, 1913 in Battle Creek, the daughter of William A. and Mable (Spiller) French. She was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek graduating from Battle Creek Central High School and was employed by the Kellogg Company in Battle Creek as a packager for 30 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of Burnham Brooks; Kellogg 25 year Club; AARP; and American Diabetes Association. She enjoyed making crafts, playing bingo, playing cards, fishing, travel and time with friends and family. She was preceded in death by spouse, Harold Magoon, father, William French, mother Mable Spiller and her fist husband, Kenneth Brown.
Surviving are children Kenneth Brown of Battle Creek, MI, Keith Brown of Irons, MI, Nancy Brown of Charlotte, MI, Michael Brown of Tucson, AZ, and Ronald Brown of Battle Creek; sister Beatrice Dawson of Paris, MI; step-daughter, Jeanie Mooney and Kay Shaw both of Eaton Rapids; 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 9,200 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, Battle Creek. Officiating will be Rev. Larry L. Fulton of the Bedford Bible Church. Interment will be at Bedford Cemetery, Bedford Township, MI. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Margaret H. Mahaffy
Margaret Helen Mahaffy, 97, of Charlotte, died Sunday, May 20,2001 at her residence after an extended illness.
Miss Mahaffy was born March 4, 1904 in Morning Sun, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lena (McCaughan) Mahaffy and had been a Charlotte resident since 1934. She was a 1925 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Nursing, and was a member of the U. of M. Alumni Association. She served as administrator of Hayes Green Beach Hospital from 1934 to 1961, and worked as a medical transcriber in the Radiology Department at St. Lawrence Hospital in Lansing from 1963 to 1978. She has been a member of the First Congregational Church UCC since 1947, and held memberships in the Altruistic Club, the Charlotte Country Club, and the Business Women’s Guild.
She is survived by two nieces, Nary (Merl) Bowker of Duluth, Minn., and Betsy (Ed) Loague of Arvada, Colo.; one nephew, John (Nan) Mahaffy of San Mateo, Calif.; three great-nieces and one great-great-niece.
Funeral services were held May 23 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Patricia Stirling of First Congregational Church officiating. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery, Ann Arbor.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hayes Green Beach Hospital; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Mary Theresa Maher
Mary T. (O’Mara) Maher, age 79 of Eaton Rapids, entered eternal life at home, April 19, 2001. Mrs. Maher was an active member of St. Peters Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids for thirty years. The most important part of her life was her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Michael; grandson, Matthew; and sister, JoAnn Teel.
Surviving are her nine children, Daniel (JoAnn) Maher of Bakersfield, CA, Mary Ellen Maher of Dearborn, Ann Maher of Eaton Rapids, Maureen (Gregory) Matfey of Novi, Patricia (Douglas) Cook of Milford, Michael (Michele) Maher of Eaton Rapids, Catherine (Glenn) Smith of Eaton Rapids, Joan (Edward) Raymond of Grosse Pointe Woods; 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Kathleen, Virginia, and Patricia O’Mara and brother, Daniel O’Mara all of Port Sanilac; several nieces and nephews.
Mass of the Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, April 21st at St. Peters Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids with Rev. Fr. Ben Constantine. Interment followed at Rosehill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael G. Maher, Edward Raymond, Martin Cook, Christopher Matfey, Michael J. Maher, and Michael Raymond. For those desiring, a memorial contribution may be made to the St. Peter Catholic Church on the memory of Mary T. Maher.
Bertha Malcuit
Bertha Malcuit, 98, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001.
Mrs. Malcuit was born August 25, 1902, in the Chester Township, Eaton Co., the daughter of Frank and Mattie (Davidson) Ward. She was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and played the violin for 40 years with a local dance orchestra in the Eaton County area.
She is survived by sons Leo (Mary) Malcuit of Vermontville, Bruce (Mikayla) Malcuit of Charlotte; daughter, Justine (Raymond) Snyder of Charlotte; sister, Bethel Keller of Manistique; 10 grandchildren, Janice (Gary) Frace, Cathy (Alan) Baird, Michael (JoDean) Snyder, Michelle (James) Mitchum, Mark (Tracy) Malcuit, Joel Malcuit, and Beth Malcuit; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.
She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Malcuit and son Ward “Bud” Malcuit.
Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. George Fleming and Dr. James Mitchum officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church or the Eaton County Medical Care Facility Activities Department.

Barbara Mann
Barbara Mann, 67, of Charlotte, died Dec. 29, 2001.
Mrs. Mann was born Jan. 4, 1934, the daughter of Harry and Irene (Blair) Barnard.
She is survived by daughters, Sharlene (Terry) Thuma of Charlotte and Joyce Pierpoint of Lansing; sons, Harry (Carol) Kelley of Charlotte and Leslie (Grace) Mann of Grand Ledge; sisters, Marie Wilson of Charlotte and Noralen (Dave) Esterline of Hillsdale; brothers, Darwin (Viola) Barnard of Lansing, Alden Barnard Sr. and Marshal Barnard, both of Charlotte and Dean (Donna) Barnard of California; grandchildren, Tamera Thuma of Charlotte, Troy (Stacey) Thuma of Wisconsin, Brian Kelley of Royal Oak, Lacey Kelley and Nathan Kelley, both of Charlotte, Damian Mann and Sabrina Mann, both of Grand Ledge.
She was preceded in death a sister, Dorene Barnard, and a brother, Harry Barnard Jr.
Funeral services were held at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Martin Saunders and Rev. Randy Royston officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Dimondale.

Betty M. Margeson
Betty M. Margeson, 76, passed away in Santa Rosa, Calif., on Saturday, Sept.1, 2001.
Mrs. Margeson was the daughter of Donald and Bessie (Bivens) Scovill, and was a native of Charlotte, graduating from Charlotte High School. She attended Denise Business School in Lansing and was then employed by Lyle D. Hepfer CPA in Lansing. Mrs. Margeson was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Santa Rosa, Calif., and the National Association of retired Federal Employees.
She is survived by her husband, George; two children, two grandchildren, and four sisters.
Memorial services were held Sept. 6 in California. Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Sebastopol, Calif.

Lysle D. Masters
Lysle D. Masters, 85, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001 after an extended illness.
Mr. Masters was born April 22, 1916 in Reading, the son of Charles and Anna (Jeffers) Masters. He worked at Youngs Jewelry as a watch repairman for 11 years, and for Aluminum Extrusions, from where he retired after 30 years of service. Mr. Masters was a former member of the Jaycees and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed golf, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Zella (Kelley) Masters; four sons, Philip (Marilyn) of Northville, Bruce (Diane) of Charlotte, Gordon of Lansing and Rick (Debra) of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; six grandchildren, Todd, Kim, Bruce, Chris, Brett and Journey; six great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary Masters and Phyllis Masters.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, brothers Harold and Marlin, and sister Eythel.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte.
Memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
L. Olean Matheney
L. Olean Matheney, 84, of Charlotte, died Friday, July 13, 2001.
Ms. Matheney was born Sept. 17, 1916 in Saffel, Ark., the daughter of Alonzo and Minerva (Hybarger) Matheney. She had been a resident of Charlotte since 1975, and attended First Baptist Church in Charlotte. She loved bowling, needlework and interacting with children and animals-especially Tiffney, or “Baby” her dog, and “Kitty” her cat.
She is survived by sisters, Wanda Wells of Charlotte, Ruth (Ralph) Tucker and Bernice Skaggs all of Tuckerman, Ark.; brother Bill (Virginia) Matheney of Alameda, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sister Freeda Wells of Newport, Ark., and brother Clifford Matheney of Charlotte.
Services were held at Graceland Cemetery in Tuckerman, Ark., through Dillinger Funeral Home.
