Florence Vitale
Florence Vitale, 85, of Charlotte, Michigan, died Sunday, September 16, 2001.
Mrs. Vitale was born August 16, 1916, in Charlotte, the daughter of Jesse and Lillian (Howard) Woodman. She is survived by sons Robert Vitale of Lansing and Mark of Olivet, daughters Vicki (John) Bradford of Dimondale and Linda (Dana) Momany of Tolleson, Arizona, step-son Guy Vitale of Albion, step-daughter Virginia Whittum of Albion, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, brother Clyde Woodman of Mulliken, sister Sadie Lynd-Hager of Grand Ledge and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Sam Vitale in 1983, step-daughter Ana Willoughby and step-son Ralph Vitale.
Funeral services were held Sept. 20 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte with Rev. Dr. Carol R. Spangenberg officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Manor Nursing Home or the St. John Episcopal Church of Charlotte.
Gary L. Vorce
Gary L. Vorce, 43, of Nashville, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001 in Grand Rapids.
Mr. Vorce graduated from Webberville High School in 1976. He was employed at Carefree in Charlotte for 27 years, the last 18 as a truck driver. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Mr. Vorce was a member of the NAHC, NAFC and the NRA. He loved to watch his children play sports and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly of Nashville; sons, Tyson Vorce (finance Ami Armstrong) of Vermontville and Zachary Vorce of Nasvhille; mother, Betty Vorce of Williamston; brothers, David (Tisa) Vorce of Perry, Sean (Nicole) Vorce of Elsie, and Richard (Carol) Davidson of Georgia; sisters, Elizabeth (Ron) Cornwell of Nashville, Margaret (Sam) Serrano of Tennessee and Susan Vorce of Lansing; two grandchildren; and special friend, Marcia Hause.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gaylord Vorce, and a brother, Jimmy Vorce.
Services were held Nov. 15 at Maple Valley Chapel, Nashville, with Pastor Don Roscoe officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Maple Valley Scholarship Fund. Arrangements were by Maple Valley Chapel, Nashville.
Mable J. Wakley
Mable J. Wakley, 73, of Sunfield, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001 at a Grand Rapids hospital.
Mrs. Wakley was born Oct. 3, 1928 in Charlotte, a daughter of Joseph and Jessie (Claflin) Norris.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Emery; nine children, Dennis (Lynnell) Wakley of Marshall, Mary Lou Wakley of Six Lakes, Karen (Dusty) Amon of Lansing, Steven (Cathi) Wakley of Vermontville, Terry Wakley of Hickory Corners, Jane (John) Haycook of St. Louis, Sandra (Jeff) Carpenter, Jeff Wakley and Julie (John) Bodenmuller, all of Nashville; 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Neeb of Lake Odessa; two brothers, William Norris of Charlotte and Dale (Eleanor) Norris of Lansing; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 12 at Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken, with Pastor Mark Ralph officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or the Diabetes Foundation. Arrangements were by Barker-Leik Funeral Home, Mulliken.
Clarence E. Watson
Clarence E. Watson, 96, of Olivet died Jan. 19, 2001 at the Country Living Adult Foster Care Home, Olivet.
Mr. Watson was born March 20, 1904, in Magoffin Country, KY, the son of Branch and Linda (Perkins) Watson, and had been a resident of the Olivet area for 60 years. He previously lived at Athens, Albion, Hillsdale and Charlotte. He was a retired employee of Gale Manufacturing, Albion where he had 16 years of service. He was also a long time farmer and had attended the Faith Assembly of God.
He is survived by two daughters, Wanda Dailey of Olivet and Linda Crouch of Phoenix, AZ; one son, Victor (Florence) of Olivet; 22 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Madge Snook of Marshall and Margie Fox of Albion; and one brother, Shermie of Mississippi.
Services were Jan. 23 at the Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Pastor Winford Collins officiating. Interment will be in the Rice Creek Cemetery, Lee Township.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Lois Webster
Lois “Aunt Bunny” (Ives) Webster, 84, of Charlotte, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001 after an extended illness.
She was born April 6, 1917 in Charlotte, the daughter of Walter and Grace (Cunningham) Ives and was a lifelong resident of Charlotte. She was a 1935 graduate of Charlotte High School and had been employed at the Colburn-Fulton Lumber Co., Charlotte, retiring in 1986 after 49 year of service. She had served as a Red Cross volunteer at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, was a Red Cross blood drive volunteer, had volunteered at Washington Elementary School with the fourth-grade students, and had been a member of the Charlotte Business Woman’s Guild. She enjoyed cooking and her host of friends.
She is survived by one sister, Margaret (Herbert) Hamilton of Lansing; nephew, Joseph Briggs of Charlotte; niece, Judy Hartgerink of Lansing; several grandnieces and great-grandnieces and nephews.
At her request, cremation has taken place.

Howard N. Weiler
Howard N. Weiler, 85, of Vermontville, died Friday, July 20, 2001 at his residence.
Mr. Weiler was born Nov. 17, 1915 in Vermontville Township, Eaton County, the son of George and Lena (Weideman) Weiler. He was raised in the Vermontville Township area and attended a rural school there. He was married to Esther Flanders on Nov. 23, 1939; she died in June 1973. Mr. Weiler’s employment included farming, hunting, working on his tractor and cutting wood.
He is survived by son, Russell (Vicki) of Vermontville; daughters, Linda (Pat) Golnek of Hastings and Kathy Neal of Kalamazoo; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary DeBie of Scotia, N.Y., and Helen Aldrich of Clyde, Ohio; and good friend and hunting buddy, Bill McHenry.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a son, Ralph in March 1971.
Services were held July 24 at Woodlawn Cemetery, Vermontville, with Chaplin Carla Smith officiating.
Memorial contributions may be to Eaton County Hospice House or Eaton County Visiting Nurses. Arrangements were by Wren Funeral Home, Hastings.
Vaughn Wells
Vaughn Wells, 68, of Charlotte, died Sept. 14, 2001 at Mid Michigan Hospice House in Lansing.
Mr. Wells was born March 16, 1933 in Eaton County, the son of Stanley and Foy (Parshall) Wells.
He is survived by a brother, Kenneth (Marianna) Wells of Charlotte; sister, Hilda Davis of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Sept. 19 at Center Eaton Cemetery, Charlotte, with Pastor Elbert Householder officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Lawrence or Eaton Community Hospice; envelopes are available at the funeral home. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Floyd E. Weymouth
Floyd E. Weymouth, 72, passed away Dec. 30, 2000, at his home in Folsom, Calif.
Mr. Weymouth was born on Oct. 28, 1928, in Charlotte. He spent eight years in the U.S. Air Force, during which time he was a pilot for Military Air Transport. He moved to California in 1961 to work for Lockheed in Sunnyvale as a Reliability Engineer. In 1978, he moved to Shingle Springs, Calif., where he personally built a beautiful home while working for Aerojet as a Quality Control Engineer. His most fulfilling achievement was teaching for several colleges, including National University and Heald Business College, both in Sacramento. His field of expertise was math, physics and statistics. While at National University he received the first “Outstanding Faculty Member” award. In 1994, he moved to Folsom, Calif., where he resided until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Joanne; and their three children, daughter Karla of Pleasanton, Calif., son Jeff of Brandon, Ore., and son Kent of Sacramento, Calif.
Private memorial services were held Jan. 27 at the Northern Queen Inn, Nevada City, Calif.
