Mildred M. Towe
Mildred Mae Towe, 91, of Charlotte, died Nov. 1, 2001.
Mrs. Towe was born Dec. 17, 1909 in Roxand Township, Eaton County, the daughter of Bert and Laura (Allen) Taylor. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of the Latter Day Saints and a Red Cross volunteer for over 25 years. She enjoyed crocheting afghans for grandchildren and earned her GED at 75 years of age.
She is survived by son, Larry (Charlotte) Towe of Charlotte; daughter-in-law, Pat Towe; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lehman Taylor of Arizona; sister, Marion Peabody of Arizona; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clare in 1978; sons, Gary Towe in 1996, Blake Towe in 1980.
Funeral services were held Nov. 5 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Richard Garn officiating. Interment was at Meadowbrook Cemetery, Mulliken.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Warren K. Travoli
Warren K. Travoli, 74, of Nashville, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001 at Pennock Hospital in Hastings. Mr. Travoli was born Feb. 10, 1927 in Boswell, Ind., the son of Charles and Cora (Terry) Travoli. He attended Indiana schools and was a graduate of Valparaiso Institute. He also attended Valparaiso University, Indiana University, and War Shipping Academy in Boston, Mass. He married Carla Anderson on Dec. 27, 1955 in Port Huron. The couple resided in Indiana, where Mr. Travoli was employed as a police officer, until retiring in 1976. After retiring, the family moved to the Nashville area. Mr. Travoli served with the Army Transport Service during World War II, and also in the 10th Airborne and 18th Field Artillery Battalion during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Carla of Nashville; son, Jim (Jamie) Travoli of Findlay, Ohio; brothers, Palmer, Travoli of Chicago and Harold Travoli of Indiana; sister, Audress Hansen of Florida; three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Jon Travoli; brothers, Marion and LeRoy; and sisters, Blanch and Irma. Services were held Nov. 27 at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, with Pastor Timothy Olson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Putnam Library or First Lutheran Church of Charlotte. Arrangements were by Maple Valley Chapel, Nashville.
Richard W. Trethewey
Richard “Teach” W. Trethewey, 54, of Charlotte, died at his residence Monday, May 28, 2001.
Mr. Trethewey was born Nov. 19, 1946 in Houghton, the son of Wilton and Shirley (Chapman) Trethewey. He was a teacher in the Lansing Public School System for several years, and held a lifetime membership in the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3552. He was an avid Green bay Packers fan.
He is survived by his wife, Diane; son, Richard of Charlotte; daughter, Christie (Martin) Hewitt-Trethewey of Charlotte, with one grandchild due in November; a brother, James (Jan) Trethewey of Marquette; special nephew, Justin; and several aunts and uncles.
An Eagle memorial service was held May 31 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte. Funeral services were held June 1, with Paul Franklin and Charles Jenson officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3552 of the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Rose Ann Troll
Rose Ann “Rosie” Troll, 74, of Marshall, died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001.
Mrs. Troll was born May 23, 1927 in Wagner, S.D., the daughter of Karl and Anna (Verba) Brodsky. She was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church and Lee Hustler’s Olivet Community Schools. She loved birds, doing crosswords, working with flowers, cross-stitching and her family and friends. She greatly loved Czech Polka music.
She is survived by her husband, Winfred; sons, Leonard of Marshall, twins John of Charlotte and James of Metamora, and Mark of Olivet; daughter, Jean Troll of Olivet; three grandchildren; brothers, Ernest Brodsky of Oshkosh, Wis., and Donald Brodsky of Newark, Ohio.
Funeral services were held Oct. 29 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Charlotte, with Rev. Fr. Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Michigan. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Wilbur C. Tubbs
Wilbur C. “Tubby” Tubbs, 91, of Lansing, passed away June 12, 2001.
Mr. Wilbur was born Jan. 4, 1910 in Charlotte. He graduated in 1928 Charlotte High School, and attended Western Michigan University, having played football both in high school and college. He was a journeyman electrician and worked for Barker-Fowler, Hatzel-Buehler Electric, and others before retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Electrical Union in 1938, and was most currently a member of IBEW local 665. He was a life member of the Charlotte Lodge of F. & A.M. #120, and was a 32nd degree Mason. Mr. Tubbs enjoyed fishing and camping. For 21 years he wintered in Mesa, Ariz., and also summered at Bear Lake for 14 years. He liked to work repairing stuff in his home workshop. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie; daughter, Patricia Yerke-Gleason; three grandsons, Daniel (Margaret) Yerke, Ronald Yerke, and James (Patti) Yerke; two step-grandsons, Steve (Sandy) Gleason and Timothy Gleason; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and niece, Jeanine Swantner.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard in 1960, and a sister, Dorotha Jenson. Services were held June 15 at Tiffany Funeral Home, Lansing, with Rev. Gary Simmons officiating. A Masonic service was also conducted by the Charlotte Lodge #120. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice of the Mother Theresa House.
Alberta VanAtter
Alberta VanAtter, of Onondaga Township, died Friday, March 16, 2001 in Onondaga Township. She was born December 26, 1921 in Eaton Rapids to parents, Eugene and Eula May (Elston) Byron. Alberta was a lifelong resident of Eaton Rapids, a loving mother, grandmother, and friend and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by a daughter, Yvonne (Boyd) Hodgson of Leslie; a son, Bruce (Charlotte) VanAtter of Onondaga; 3 grandchildren, Amy (Chris) Burch, Ann VanAtter, and Vanessa Hodgson; 2 great-grandchildren, Chris Burch Jr. and Michael Burch; 1 brother, James (Joyce) Byron of Eaton Rapids; 3 sisters, Lorena (Robert) Gillett, Rose (Glen) Love, and Iva Jean Peters all of Eaton Rapids.
Funeral services were held on Monday. March 19, 2001 at the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Lorna J. VanCamp
Lorna J. (Weeks) VanCamp, 77, of Charlotte, formerly of Grand Ledge, passed away May 21, 2001 in Charlotte.
Mrs. VanCamp was a retired registered nurse from Eaton County Medical Care Facility. She had also worked for St. Lawrence, Sparrow, and Ingham Regional hospitals, and for Dr. Rudolph Scheidt’s office. She was a graduate of St. Lawrence Hospital School of Nursing class of 1945, a member of the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church and Grand Ledge Chapter #14 OES, and helped run the concession stand for the Grand Ledge Pony-Colt Baseball League.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Marcel) Chauvin of Charlotte; four grandchildren; sister, Elizabeth (Stewart) Woolpert of Corunna; and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn in 1984, and her parents, Floyd in 1975 and Cordelia in 1991.
Funeral services were held May 24 at Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Rev. W.J. “Bill” Amundsen and Rev. Kathy Kursch officiating. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery, Grand Ledge.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. Arrangements were by Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge.
Clarence W. Vance
Clarence Wesley Vance, 76, of Charlotte, died Friday, July 27, 2001.
Mr. Vance was born April 9, 1925 in Charleston, W.Va., the son of Clayton and Maggie (Taylor) Vance. He was a laborer at Owens-Illinois Brockway Glass Containers and had been a member of Eagles Aerie of Ohio. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and fishing, and he collected coins and stamps.
He is survived by his wife, Gay (Kessinger) Vance; daughters, Sue Vance of Dimondale, Brenda (Chuck) Tomlinson, Chris (Steve) Morris and Terri (Joe) Jenson, all of Charlotte, and Rita Poyer of Bellevue; son, William (Sue) Vance of Bellevue; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; sister, Alpha Meadows of West Virginia; brothers, Dennis, Leonard, Jim, Jack, Garland and Bob, all of West Virginia, Jerry of Florida, and Cecil of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Clinton and Charles; sisters, Retha Facemyer and Ruth Linville; and son-in-law, Brian Poyer. Funeral services were held July 30 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Pastor Paul Davis and Rev. Jim Vance officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.
