Joyce R. Morgan

Joyce Rosemary Morgan, 68, of Charlotte, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001.

Mrs. Morgan was born Aug. 28, 1933 in Charlotte, the daughter of Henry and Ina (Baker) Sumerix. She had been a keypuncher and data processor for Hoover/Aluminum Extrusions in Charlotte.

She is survived by daughters, Tena (Philip) Rolfe of Charlotte and Karen Linden of Ft. Smith, Ark; three grandchildren, Cory, Becky and Heath; great-granddaughter, Kalie Ann Marie Rahe; brother, Lyle (Barbara) Sumerix of Buchanan; sister, Marilyn (Charles) Rutter of Olivet; sisters-in-law, Joan Sumerix of South Carolina; and brother-in-law, Harold Ross of St. Louis, Mo. She was preceded in death by her husband, Zack Morgan in 1978; sister, Betty Ross, and brother, Harry Sumerix.

Funeral services were held Nov. 10, 2001 at Charlotte First Baptist Church, with Pastor Richard Wilford officiating. Per her request, Mrs. Morgan’s remains were donated to the University of Michigan Medical School.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Eaton Community Hospice, or the State of Michigan Talking Books program. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Harry D. Morrison

Harry Duane Morrison, 73, of Charlotte, passed away Dec. 29, 2001.

Mr. Morrison was born Oct. 2, 1928 in Bellevue, the son of John and Jennie (Nettleton) Morrison. He retired from Fisher Body in 1986, and enjoyed fishing, hunting and his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, IdaBelle (Weldon) Morrison; sons, Larry (Terry Sue), Brain (Kami) of Charlotte and Keith (Angie) of Eaton Rapids; daughter, Karen (Chris) Miles of Holt; six grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Egbert (Ellen) Morrison, Dorothy (Mike) Young, Francis Morrison, Claudia Smith, Janice (Don) Barnett, Sandra (Harry) Smith, Roger (Pat) Morrison and Sue (Gordon) Bottomley.

He was preceded in death by son, Douglas; parents, John Morrison and Jennie Moist; sister, Jeanette Gruhl; and a brother, Ernest Morrison.

Funeral services were held Jan. 4,2002 at Prey Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Darwin Kuhl officiating. Interment was at Deepdale Memorial Park, Lansing.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, INC., Charlotte.

Clarence G. Morse

Clarence G. Morse, 90, of Bellevue, died Monday, January 16 at Battle Creek Health System.

He was born September 20, 1910 in Bellevue Township to Emry James and Ruth Elizabeth (Garms) Morse. He graduated from Bellevue High School and attended Michigan State University.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1932 to 1936 and served aboard the USS Langley (CV-1), the Navy’s first aircraft carrier. He obtained the rank of Gunner’s Mate Third Class.

He was a full-time diary framer in Bellevue for many years and worked part-time at the Emmett Street Livestock Exchange. He later farmed part-time and went to work at Grand Trunk Western Railroad full-time, retiring in 1975 after 25 years. He was known around the railroad as “Big Daddy” because he worked on large diesel engines.

He married Ruth Agnes Steeby, on November 25, 1937, she died November 10,1982. He later married Josephine (Stanton) Ward on November 14, 1987, she survives.

Also surviving are sons, James Clarence Morse of Fremont, Jack Lawrence, Morse of Harrison and John David Morse of Muskegon; daughter, Sally Ann Morse of Bellevue; step-daughter, Carol Frey of Gaylord; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and four step-great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by brothers Max and Cecil Morse.

He served on the Bellevue School Board for many years and was very active in the Bellevue and Eaton County 4-H. He was a member of Farm Bureau, and the Bellevue United Methodist Church and Men’s Club.

Friends may call after 3 p.m., Thursday at Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue. Family will be present from 4-8 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at Bellevue United Methodist Church, Pastor Mark Thompson, officiating. Interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorial donations may be made to the Bellevue United Methodist Church Camp Scholarship Fund or the Bellevue High School Scholarship Fund. Arrangements by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.

Cara A. Morton

Cara A. Morton, infant daughter of Bradley and Teresa Morton of Charlotte, died Aug. 9, 2001.

She is survived by her parents; twin sisters, Kay Lynne; sisters Renae Jenn and Shawna Marie; grandparents, Willard and Neva Mikesell, and Coy and Jean Morton, all of Charlotte; aunts, Kathy (Jeff) Vigue of Whitmore Lake, and Ann (Eli) Ringrose of East Hampton, Conn., uncles, Thomas (Traci) Mikesell of Naperville, Ill., James (Susan) Mikesell of Indianapolis, Ind., Brian (Tracy) Morton of Dowagiac, and Brent Morton of Charlotte; great-aunts, Linda (Roger) Garrett of Lawrence, Kansas, and Carolyn (Dennis) Benjamin of Holt; great-great-aunts Jessie Mick of Dimondale, and Doris (Robert) Cox of Upland, Calif.; and numerous cousins.

Private family services will be conducted. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Louis F. Mosier

Louis Francis Mosier, 85, of Charlotte, died Monday, June 11, 2001.

Mr. Mosier was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Vermontville, the son of Lynn and Mary (Arntz) Mosier. He was a layout inspector for Oldsmobile before retiring in 1977, and farmed most of his life in the Eaton County area. He was a member of Potterville Masonic Lodge #367 and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #413.

He is survived by son, Lynned Mosier of Charlotte; daughters, Kim (Mark) LaCount and Sibyl (Mike) Moreno, both of Charlotte, and Linda (Steve) Donley and Suzan Woodhams, both of Potterville; 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; and sister, Barbara Ward of Potterville.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy (Riedl) in 1996.

Funeral services were held June 14 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Arthur Salisbury officiating. Interment was at Gresham Cemetery, Charlotte.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Masons or the Eastern Star. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Christopher E. Mullen

Christopher Eugene Mullen, 18, of Charlotte, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001. Mr. Mullen was born Dec. 22, 1982 in Pontiac. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 2001, was a member of the National Honor Society and National Vocational Honor Society, and had been awarded and academic scholarship to Ferris State University. He was a member of the Mid Michigan Roller Hockey Association and the Douglas J. Phantoms. He was also a black belt in TaeKwonDo. He is survived by his father, Patrick Mullen; mother, Debra (Foote) Mullen; sister, Erin Mullen step-father, Martin Comer; maternal grandfather, Eugene Foote; and paternal grandmother, Betty Mullen. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Jackie Foote; and paternal grandfather, Eugene Mullen. Funeral mass was held Nov. 5 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Charlotte, with Rev. Father Denis Spitzley officiating. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the McCarty Cancer Foundation. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Marjorie E. Munn-Thorne

Marjorie E. Munn-Thorne, 81, of Bellevue, died Sunday, July 22, 2001.

Marjorie was born June 13, 1920 in Howell, the daughter of Lester and Elsie (Miller) Huff. She was a retired secretary from Charlotte Public Schools, and was a past member of the Bellevue United Methodist Church, Eaton County Retired Secretary’s group and NLARSP.

She is survived by daughters, Margie (Douglas) Murphy of Bellevue and Vicki Porter of Battle Creek; son, Lynn Patrick McKee of San Francisco, Calif.; step-children, Jack and Janet Munn, Carol Pixley and Charles Munn; five grandchildren, Aaron and Amanda Murphy, Amy and Andrew McKee, and Jeffrey Porter Rogers; two great-grandchildren, Alexis Murphy and Jacob Smith; brothers, Robert Huff of Howell and Kenneth Huff of Chico, Calif.; and a sister, Phyllis Gehringer of Avon Park, Fla.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Don McKee, L.V. Porter and John Munn; and a brother, Gerald Huff.

Funeral services were held July 26 at Bellevue United Methodist Church, with Rev. Wendell Stine officiating. Graveside services were held at Lakeside Cemetery, Howell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer’s Association or Bellevue United Methodist Church. Arrangements by the Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Dominic-Allen E. Myles

Dominic-Allen Emmanuel Myles, 5, son of Walter Allen and Ann Marie (Locke) Myles II of Marshall, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at Sparrow Hospital, Lansing.

Dominic was born Oct. 5, 1995 in Jackson. He attended kindergarten classes at Fern- Parsons Elementary School in Olivet. He was a member of the Challenger 4-H Club in Marshall and the American Rabbit Breeder Association. He attended Marshall Wesleyan Church and attended Sunday School classes there. Dominic enjoyed bowling and participating in the Snack and Bumper league with his brother at Marshall Lanes.

He is survived by his parents; brother, Matthew George; sister, Lydia-Katherine Michelle; maternal grandparents, Walter and Bertha Myles Sr. of Westville, Ohio; maternal great-grandparents, Katherine Walter of Marshall and Harold Locke of Eaton Rapids; aunts, Becky Traxler, Becky Locke and Shirley Locke; an uncle, Richard Locke; six immediate cousins; and numerous other relatives.

Funeral services were held March 26 at the Marshall Wesleyan Church. Interment was at Albion Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wesleyan Church; assistance available at the funeral home.
