Margaret A. Mead
Margaret Alexander Mead, 96, of Traverse City, died Friday, June 8, 2001.
Mrs. Mead was a previous resident of Otsego from 1906 to 1925, Charlotte from 1926 to 1965, then retired to the home she shared with her husband on Elk Lake in 1966. She was born on Oct. 5, 1904, in Chicago, the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth (Herrmann) Miller. On June 13,1926, in Otsego, she married Earl V. Mead. She was deputy superintendent for the Eaton County Intermediate School District, and a member of Elk Rapids United Methodist Church, and Maple City Chapter #218 Order of the Eastern Star in Charlotte.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Rose of Traverse City; a son, Earl (Bette) Mead of New Bern, N.C.; six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl on April 23,1982; and three sisters, Wilma Stratton, Dorothy Ford and Henrietta McDonald. A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions maybe made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements were by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
James J. Merrill
James J. Merrill, 76, of Grand Ledge, died Tuesday May 29, 2001 at the Hospice House of Mid Michigan, Lansing.
Mr. Merrill was born Aug.7, 1924 in Potterville, the son of Joe and Iowa (Wright) Merrill, and lived most of his life in the Potterville area. He was valedictorian of his class. He was a lifelong farmer, and worked for the Aluminum Extrusions Company in Charlotte for 21 years, and worked for the Potterville schools for eight years, from where he retired. He married Mary Gorman Nov. 26, 1943. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Gorman) Merrill; one daughter, Julie Ann (Earl) Perkins of Grand Ledge; one son, James Merrill Jr.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jeanne Kay Nevins on May 22,1996.
Funeral services were held June 1 at Burkhead- Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Thomas Peters officiating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery (Potterville). Memorial contributions may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association. Arrangements were by Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte.
Jason Lavern Merrill
Jason Lavern Merrill, age 71 of Eaton Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on June 10, 2001. He was born March 29, 1930 to Robert and Thelma Merrill in Hillsdale, Michigan. Jason “Henry” was raised in the Hillsdale are and graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1947. He serves in the Navy from1948 to 1956. He met and married June G. Larsen of Brooklyn N.Y. in 1952. The father of four children returned to Hillsdale where he continued in the occupation of mechanic, truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Relocating to Eaton Rapids in 1970, he worked for C.& J. Transport where he retired in 1985. He continued his education at Lansing Community College, completing HVAC certificates with honors. He remained active in retirement with various part-time positions as HVAC mechanic, realtor, landlord and driver. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife June and their four children, Susie (Bob) Pollmann-Antaya of Taylor Michigan, Joyce Sullivan of Eaton Rapids, Jean (Bob) Squires of Eaton Rapids and Jim Merrill of Eaton Rapids. Also his Aunt Cynthia Lape of Eaton Rapids, stepfather and friend Max VanCamp of Reading, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father in 1965, mother in 1993, and grandson Jordan in 1985.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 12, from 6-8 p.m. at the Skinner Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids with services to be held Wednesday, June 13, 2001, 2 p.m., also at the funeral home. A luncheon will follow.
Nathan J. Meyer
Nathan James Meyer, 16, of Bellevue, died July 30, 2001 in Assyria Township as a result of an out accident.
Nathan was born Sept.19, 1984 to Robert and Ellen (Rogers) Meyer in Battle Creek. He completed his sophomore year at Bellevue High School and would have been a junior this fall. He was a member of the track, golf, basketball, and cross-country teams at Bellevue High School. Nathan was named to the all-conference team in cross-country and track, and was a 400-meter/ 800-meter distance runner. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping, and was a member of the Bellevue Community Players.
He is survived by his parents; brothers, Robert L. Meyer Jr. of Olivet and Lance Ford Meyer of Charlevoix; sister, Leanne Meyer of Bellevue; maternal grandparents, Rex and Myra Rogers of White Cloud; nephew, Isiah Penny of Bellevue; and niece, Drew Meyer of Olivet. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Chester and Pauline Meyer. Services will be held Aug. 3 at Bellevue Christian Center, with Pastor Stephan Covert officiating. Interment was at Riverside Cemetery, Bellevue. Memorial donations may be made to the Bellevue Memorial Scholarship. Arrangements were by Shaw Funeral Home, Lehman Chapel, Bellevue.
Arlyne M. Miller
Arylne M. Miller, 63, of Nashville, died Friday, Oct. 26, 2001 at her home.
She was born in 1938 in Detroit, the daughter of Albert and Edna (Christy) Miller. She was raised in the Detroit area and attended area schools, graduating in 1956. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at Thornapple Manor for many years, retiring in 2000. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, gardening, shopping and caring for her pets- especially her cat “Squeeky.”
She is survived by her father, Albert Miller of Nashville; daughters, Patricia Cook of Nashville and Collyne (Dale Barnard) Ruedisueli of Sunfield; son, Christopher (Marcia) Ruedisueli of Vermontville; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna (Christy) Miller; son, Michael Ruedisueli; and uncles, Reggie Christy, Clifford Christy, and Alex Christy.
Private family graveside services were held Oct.30 at Lakeview Cemetery, Nashville, with Pastor Rob VanEngen officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Barry Community Hospice.
Dennis Miller
Dennis Miller, 62, of Charlotte, died Sunday, March 18, 2001.
Mr. Miller was born May 29, 1938 in Olivet, the son of Robert and Norma (Peterson) Miller. He was a machine operator for the Owens Illinois for 27 years, retiring in 1992. He loved to play bingo and watch local stock car races. He enjoyed watching and identifying birds. He also faithfully watched game shows such as The Price Is Right, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune.
He is survived by his longtime companion, Joan Loughan; daughters, Valerie (Harold) Peck, Jr. of Charlotte, Victoria (Ernest) Miller Jr. of Welcome, N.C.; sons, Ronald (Kim Roberts) Miller of Elkhart, Ind., Steven Miller of Olivet; daughters, Linda Miller of Charlotte and Jane (John) Beck Jr. of Winston Salem, N.C.; sons, Dan (Deb) Loughan of Charlotte, Mike (Sandra) Loughan of Mason; daughters, Cindy Loughan (Lyle Thompson) of Charlotte, Kathy (and the late Allen) Tirrell; brothers, Lavon Miller of Havelock, N.C., Roger (Eloise) Miller of Springport; sister, Janet Bartlett of Charlotte; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1992, his mother in Dec. 2000; sister, Marcia Bartlett in 1988; and a grandson, Dennis R.J. Miller 1979.
Funeral services were held March 22 at Prayer Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating.

Donald C. Miller
Donald C. Miller, 84, of Sun City, Ariz., died Nov. 2, 2001. Mr. Miller was born Aug. 16,1917, the son of Claud and Jessie (Dodd) Miller in Eaton County. He was an armed veteran, wounded severely in Salerno, Italy, on Sept. 16,1943 and disability discharged on Oct. 1,1944. He obtained a bachelor and Master of Science degree from Michigan State University, and was on the faculty from 1948 to 1956. Mr. Miller later taught agricultural education at Midland High School. He retired in 1970 to Hillman, and was a winter resident of Arizona for many years before becoming a full-time resident. He was a farmer at heart, in Eaton and Midland counties. Mr. Miller was a member of the Congregational Church of Sun City and the Sun City Handicapables Club, and a life member of DVA, TROA, Bellevue, #83 F. &A.M., Charlotte, #82 RAM Midland, and #121 OES.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ula; daughters, Barbara (R.P.) Miller of Marquette and Dawn of Santa Ana, Calif.; sons, Douglas (Bonnie) of Midland and Duane (Jan) of Leawood, Kansas; six grandchildren; brother, James (Cleone) of Olivet; and sister, Margaret (J.B.) Fisher of Charlotte.
A memorial celebration was held Nov. 13 at the Congregational Church of Sun City, Ariz. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 1 p.m. at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Mich. Gisela Miller
Gisela Miller, 71, of Potterville, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2001 at her residence after an extended illness.
Mrs. Miller was born in Detroit, the daughter of Rudolph and Gretchen Flamme, and had been a Potterville resident for 15 years, coming from Charlotte. She was a graduate of Leslie High School, and a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lansing. Mrs. Miller was employed for 18 years as a dietary supervisor for Ingham Regional Medical Center, from where she retired. Prior to that, she had been employed by Lansing Public Schools in the Dietary Department.
She is survived by her husband, Maurice Miller; one son, Paul (Leona) Miller of Georgetown, Texas; one daughter, Terry Miller of Whitehouse, Texas; three grandchildren, Aaron, Kristen and Bethany Miller; one sister, Florence Russell of Jackson; and two brothers, Walter Flamme of Mason and Karl Flamme of Leslie.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon Courter; first husband, Charles Courter; and a sister, Hilda Woods.
Funeral services were held Aug. 6 at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Lansing, with Rev. Roger Straub officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing.
