Dolly I. Osbourn

Dolly I. Osbourn, 83, of Brunswick, Ga., formerly of Lansing and Charlotte, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001 in Georgia.

Mrs. Osbourn was a retiree of Michigan School Supply and a former member of the Women’s Bowling Congress.

She is survived by her son, Ronald Wilson of Brunswick, Ga.; Franchot Dean Wilson of Howell; and a daughter, Laraine Dolly Crawford of Las Vegas.

Graveside services were held Nov. 12, 2001 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, with Rev. Robert Besemer of Delta Mills United Methodist Church officiating.

Arrangements were by Tiffany Funeral Home, Lansing.

John A. Osterling

John Arthur Osterling, 92, of Grand Ledge, died Feb. 22, 2001.

Mr. Osterling was born Oct. 13,1908, in Grand Rapids, the son of Henry and Clara (Van Poppering) Osterling. He was the last of seven brothers and sisters, and was a retired school teacher from Redford Union School District in Redford. He was a Chapter Member of Sahib Temple Shriner, a Mason, was active in the Michigan Federation of Teachers and University of Michigan Alumni Club.

He is survived by daughter, Linda (James) Garlick of Grand Ledge; son, John Larry (Carol) Osterling of Saline; five grandchildren, Michelle Garlick and Jonathan Garlick, Scott (Kelly) Osterling, Sara and Steve Osterling; sisters, Gertrude Kluiter, Lila DeKorte, Jenny Burken, and Frances Norris.

Graveside services were held Feb. 26 at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Bristol, Ind., with Pastor Jim Tuttle officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Glenn Ostrander

Glenn Ostrander, 89, of Charlotte and Eaton Rapids, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001.

Mr. Ostrander was born March 16, 1912 in Hillman, the son of Lewis and Julia Belle (Kirk) Ostrander. As a young man, he was deeply influenced by the life and teachings of Alfred Lawson, an engineer and humanitarian who originated the Direct Credit Society, then later the Humanity Benefactor Foundation, the University of Lawsonomy and the Lawsonian Religion. He spent his entire life living out the motto: “Serve humanity; take nothing from anybody; give everything to everybody; harm nobody.”

Mr. Ostrander was a building engineer for Galewood School for 10 years, and a volunteer for 17 years with handicapped children and the Special Riding Program in Eaton County. He was also active as a volunteer in the Big Brother/ Bid Sister, Eaton County 4-H programs, RSVP volunteer, and Boy Scout of America.

He is survived by a nephew, Albert Palmer of Clarkston; a grand-nephew, Tony Palmer; a grand-niece, Allison Palmer; and special friends, Melvin and Margaret Bisel.

He was preceded in death by sisters, Olive Ostrander and Erma Palmer; and brother Jay Ostrander.

Memorial services were held May 19 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Dr. Rev. Carol Spangenberg officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Eaton Special Riding Volunteer Association. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte.

Frances M. Overmyer

Frances M. Overmyer, 86, of Charlotte, died Dec. 29, 2001.

Mrs. Overmyer was born Oct. 18, 1915, the daughter of Laurits and Amelia (Jorgensen) Pedersen. She was a beautician for many years in Charlotte.

She is survived by daughters, Sally (Butch) Haight and Cheri (Douglas) Smith of Charlotte, and Judy Latchaw of Coldwater; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Overmyer in January 1995, and great-great-granddaughter, Bailey Rae Fletcher.

Funeral services were held Jan. 3, 2002 at Chappell Funeral Home, Fenneville. Interment was at Fenneville Cemetery, Fenneville.

Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Lucretia J. Paine

Lucretia J. Paine, 82, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at the home of her daughter in Burlington after a short illness.

Mrs. Paine was born march 18, 1919 in Homer, the daughter of Edward and Mary (Sellers) Goodrich, and was raised by Albert and Daisy VanGeisen. She had been a Charlotte resident since 1970, coming from Marshall. Mrs. Paine was a graduate of Marshall High School. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Charlotte, the Charlotte OES, and the Hayes Green Beach Hospital Auxiliary, working in the gift shop.

She is survived by three children, Fred (Janette) Hamilton of Grand Ledge, Mary (Ken) Eyre of Burlington and Doc (Pat) Hamilton of Grand Haven; stepson, Rick Paine of New Port Richey, Fla.; stepdaughter, Chris Gillette of Lafayette, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Bill Goodrich of Burlington, Ed and Earl Goodrich, both of Marshall, and Duane Goodrich of Battle Creek.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Bernard Hamilton in 1969, Ed Allen in 1975, and Carl Paine in 1993; brother, Ken; and three sisters, Margaret Wright, Eleanor Love and Edna Goodrich.

Funeral services were held Dec. 1 at Burkhead- Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Patricia Stirling officiating. Interment was at Porter Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the VFW Auxiliary.

Viola I. Papoi

Viola Irene Papoi, 88, of Charlotte, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001.

Mrs. Papoi was born June 25, 1913 in Charlotte, the daughter of Arthur and Sena (Peterson) Horn. She worked with her husband at Papoi Automotive Services for many years, and had also worked at Wilcox Gay, Heyfeitz Manufacturing. She enjoyed bowling and playing bingo.

She is survived by sons, Robert Papoi of Gadsden, Ala., and Michael (Peggy) Papoi of Charlotte; daughter, Jeanette Brondstetter of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony in January 1992.

Graveside services were held Oct. 31 at Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte, with R. Raymond Rossell officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.

Alberto Pardo

Alberto Pardo, age 72 of Eaton Rapids, died May 6, 2001 in Lansing. He was born April 10, 1929 in Luling, TX the son of Manuel and Isidore (Rodriguez) Pardo. Alberto retired from Fisher Body in 1980 after 32 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Korea and was a member of the Onondaga VFW Post #6986. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Agnes; 3 daughters, Kathleen (Jack) Lynch of Eaton Rapids, Diane Arrington of Jackson, Elizabeth Shields of Eaton Rapids, 2 sons, Daniel and Patrick Pardo both of Eaton Rapids; 6 grandchildren, Chad, Stacy, John, Olivia, Sam, and Ty; great-grandson, Joshua; 2 brothers, Rudy (Barbara) Pardo of Eaton Rapids and Mike (Gloria) Pardo of Lansing.

Arrangements by the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.

Homer W. Parish

Homer W. Paris, 78, of Hastings, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at his residence.

Mr. Parish was born Feb. 6, 1923 in Charlotte, the son of Roy and Marjorie (Root) Rapids, He served in the United States Army for 25 years, retiring in 1967 with the rank of master sergeant. He served during World War II with assignments in England, France and Germany. In 1961, he was sent to Korea; in 1965, he was assigned to Japan; and in 1967, he served in Vietnam for eight months before retiring. He married Joan Squires on June 30, 1956. Mr. Parish worked for the city of Charlotte for 12 years, retiring March 1, 1983. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, feeding the birds, hunting, fishing, camping, and repairing various things for anyone who asked.

He is survived by his wife, Joan of Hastings; one son, Steven (Kim) of Lake Odessa; daughters, Karen (Steve) Coplin of Nashville, Wendy (Steve) Bohus of Potterville, and Lynne (Brian) Baker of Charlotte, Janice (Steve Gardner of Vermontville; 16 grandchildren; brothers, George (Dorothy) of Potterville and Roy (Dixie) of Greenville; sisters, Madeline (Ray) Krompitz of Lansing and Betty Roberts of Laingsburg; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Vera Parish; and a brother, Blake Parish.

Memorial services were held April 20 at the Nashville Baptist Church, with Pastor Lester DeGroot officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Girrbach Funeral Home, Hastings.
