James B. Roher
James Bartholomew “Jimmy” Roher, 22, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001 from complications of a lengthy illness. Mr. Roher was born March 15, 1979 in Lansing, the son of James and Bonnie (Warner) Roher. He was a student at Meadowview School in Charlotte, and attended First Assembly of God Church of Greater Lansing with his family. He will be remembered by his family as a great kid who lived life to the fullest. He is survived by his parents, James and Bonnie; brother, Jason; and grandparents, James and Thelma Roher of Lansing, and Dayl and Marilyn Warner of Holt. Funeral services were held Nov. 24 at the First Assembly of God Church of Greater Lansing, East Lansing, with Pastor Curt Dalaba officiating. Interment was at Millerburg Cemetery, Charlotte. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lansing Area Parents Respite Program or to Sparrow Children’s Miracle Network. Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Wilford H. Rohlfs Sr.
Wilford H. Rohlfs Sr., 92, of Charlotte, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Hayes Green Beach Hospital, Charlotte, after an extended illness.
Mr. Rohlfs was born April 24, 1908, in Fairgrove, the son of Diedrich and Maud (Turner) Rohlfs. He was a Charlotte resident from 1937-41 and from 1950 to the present. He was an independent sales representative in agriculture hardware for 28 years until his retirement. He had previously taught agriculture in Shepherd, Dundee, Bay Port and Charlotte and special education in Marlette and Charlotte. He was a former Farm Bureau Insurance salesman and field man for the Michigan Sugar Co., Lansing.
He was a 1927 graduate of Fairgrove High School, 1932 graduate of Michigan State College, where he was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity, and earned his master’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1936. He was a Patriarch of Michigan State University as well as an avid fan of its football and basketball teams. He headed tours to Detroit Tiger baseball games for several years. He was a member of the Lawrence Avenue United Methodist Church and its Methodist Men’s Club as well as being a former Scout Cubmaster, committeeman and post advisor for Troop #46. He was a life member of the Farm Bureau, member of the Eaton County and Michigan Retired Teachers’ Association and the Michigan Retired Agricultural Teachers Association.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nina Maxine (Hover); four sons, Wilford (Marie) Jr. of Ormond Beach, FL, Richard of Kalamazoo, Robert (Sandy) of Saginaw and Ronald (Chris) of Holt; six grandchildren; Theresa (Staten) Putnal of Atlanta, GA, Tammy (Paul) Bement of Dallas, TX, Robyn (Phillip) Murphy of Redondo Beach, CA, Erin Rohlfs of Saginaw, and Michelle and Laurie Rohlfs of Holt; and one great-grandson, Benjamin Bement of Dallas, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Beatrice Rohlfs.
Services were held Jan. 8 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at Brookside Cemetery, Fairgrove.

Fay L. Root
Fay “Bud” Lewis Root, 88, of Charlotte, died Oct. 10, 2001.
Mr. Root was born Feb. 14, 1913 in Flint, the son of William and Anna Marie (Sorenson) Root.
He is survived by a nephew, John (Ann) Brandon of Charlotte; nieces, Carol Ann Sumerix of Eaton Rapids, Sharon Weaver of Olivet, Sally Porter of Colorado, Bonnie Vincent of Manistique, Brenda (Bill) Apt of Bellingham, Wash., and Joann Tinsley of Dallas, Texas.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Margaret Fisher and Nona Brandon; and brother, Lyle Root.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. George Fleming officiating. Interment was at Oak Grove Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
Arrangements were by Pray Funeral Home, Inc., Charlotte.
Virginia P. Ross
Virginia P. (Baker) Ross, 68, of Olivet, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001.
Mrs. Ross was born Feb. 1, 1933 in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Aaron and Beatrice (Jignac) Baker and had been Olivet resident for 16 years. She had worked many years as a waitress, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Ross was a member of the Olivet First Assembly of God, had volunteered with the Olivet Good Neighbor Program and the Walk For Warmth Program, and had attended the Singles Group at First Assembly of God.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Charles) Mead of Olivet; two sons, Jay (Kathy) Ross of Pennington, N.J., and Vincent Ross III of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Shane Wells, Amy (James) Reynolds, Jeffery Ross and Sara Ross; four brothers, Robert, William and Donald Baker, and David Starling; and four sisters, Dolly Harrison, Ruth Marcello, Sharon Baker and Alice Baker.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Sylvester Baker.
Funeral services were held Oct. 1 at Burkhead-Green Funeral Chapel, Charlotte, with Rev. Douglas Hammond officiating. Interment was at Bosworth Cemetery, Olivet.

Joseph C. Rounds
Joseph Corey Rounds, 48, of Lansing, formerly of Charlotte, died Saturday, July 7, 2001.

Michael E. Rounds
Michael Edward Rounds, 58, of Lansing died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001.
Michael was born August 26, 1942, in Springport, the son of Marion and Mabel Louise (Tunwell) Rounds.
He is survived by daughters, Diane Miller of Fowlerville, Karen (James) Lampani of Dimondale, and Sharon (Michael) Winans of Lansing; three grandchildren, Brian Miller, and Tony and Angelina Lampani; ex-wife Loretta Gay; and life-long friend Bianca.
Memorial services were held Feb. 21 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Rich Mitterling facilitating. Interment was at Benton Township Cemetery, Potterville.
Ruth M. Royston
Ruth M. (Lett) Royston, 77, of Vermontville, died Friday, May 4, 2001.
Mrs. Royston was born March 7, 1924 in Potterville, the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Shaver) Lett. She was a farm wife, and had been married to Rex for 57 years.
She is survived by her husband; sons, Rex Duane Jr. (Kay) of Vermontville and Gary (Kieran) of Lansing; daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Carpenter of Vermontville and Sue (Mark) Fawley of Nashville; brother, Allen (Lois) Lett of Lansing; sister, Laura Herde of Florida; sister-in-law, Joan Lett of Potterville; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Mat 7 at Pray Funeral Home, Charlotte, with Rev. Randy Royston officiating. Interment was at Hillsdale-Kalamo Cemetery.

Vernon L. Royston
Vernon L. Royston, 70, of San Benito, Texas, formerly of Flushing, died Jan. 18, 2001 in Texas.
Mr. Royston was born in Charlotte on March 9, 1930, the son of Lester and Leeta (Parr) Royston. He married Jean Marsh on July 16,1949 in Auburn, Ind. He Royston was a Flushing policeman from 1960 to 1985. He served as chief of police for 21 years until he retired. He served as a volunteer fireman in Flushing from 1951 to 1957. He was the first volunteer to hold the president position in the Genesee County Fireman’s Association. He was a member of the Michigan Police Chief Association, Fraternal Order of police, and first United Methodist Church of San Benito, Texas. He was a member and past president of the Flushing Lions Club.
Surviving are his wife Jean of San Benito, Texas; children, Star (Harry) McPhilimy, Marlin (Pamela), April (Charles) Hellinger, all of Flushing, Amy (Tim) Deerr of Avon Ind.; grandchildren, Dr. Scott McPhilimy of Fort Gratiot, Kelly McPhilimy, Kyle, Kevin and Eric Royston, and Lindsay Cantrell, all of Flushing, Colt Cantrell of Clio, Roderick and Rachel Deerr of Indiana; great-granddaughter, Kaylyn McPhilimy of Flushing; step-grandson and great- grandson Charles and Cody Hellinger; and many other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was conducted Jan. 25 at Rossell Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Sharp officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Charlotte on Jan. 26.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of San Benito, Texas, or the American Heart Association.
